BA's Top 100 List Out
Seven Rangers make the list (unless, of course, I missed someone):
Neftali Feliz at #10, Justin Smoak at #23, Derek Holland at #31, Elvis Andrus at #37, Taylor Teagarden at #73, Max Ramirez at #84, and Martin Perez at #86.
This seems pretty promising for the top rated farm system in all of MLB. I, for one, am pretty excited to see some of these guys mentioned among names that I've heard a lot about among the rest of baseball for a couple of years now.
What do you guys think of the rankings?

I went to check and saw Teagarden, you said it first though.

Edit:
Teagarden is now included. Thanks for catching that.

Much lower than Sickels or Goldstein have him.
And Bard at #98.
Doctor please. Some more of these.

That's more reasonable based on his ceiling

Yep...
my only major complaint is that Main isn’t on that list. Laughable really.
IMO Perez should be a little higher (above our catchers) and there is an argument for Borbon and Beltre to be there as well, but I really don’t have a problem with either of them not making it.

Why is it laughable that Main isn't on the list?
He’s got a huge arm and he really impressed in the Winter, but he’s battled some injury bugs and has yet to put together anything close to a full season of success yet.
There are plenty of young projectable pitchers with plus upside who haven’t done a lot yet who could make a case for the back end of the 100. (Kyle Drabek leaps to mind.)
Sure, I’d take Main (and Borbon and Beltre) over some of those guys at the back end of the list, but I’m biased.
And so are you, probably ;)

The injury concern is somewhat valid
But I would think his performance when he was healthy would have gotten him onto the back end of the list at least. He didn’t miss a real significant amount of time. He was going to be held back a little anyway. I think BA will look back next year and really regret not having him on the list this year. Hes gonna absolutely explode onto the scene this year. Watch out Frisco.

then
do you don’t think it’s laughable that Brackman is there and Main isn’t?

Here's Manuel's response:
A: We all liked him. He’s pretty athletic with a power arm. But he threw 59 innings last year and hasn’t advanced past low Class A. It’s a high standard. His durability was a question, so those were things that kept him out. I had him 71 on my personal list, by the way.
but Brackman is on the list… LMAO

yeah, someone should ask him about Brackman
then him compared with Main.
would love to see that answer…

That was my problem...
there are a few other pitchers on that list that have no buisness being ahead of Main imo.
And no Dirk A. Tron, I’m not biased in any way. How dare you even imply that. /sarcasm

No, not laughable.
Brackman has been injured, but his arm troubles were known when he was drafted and he still commanded a huge major league deal, so the Yanks (and some other folks, assuming the Yanks weren’t bidding against themselves) must’ve seen something in the guy they thought was pretty special.
And the reports all say his raw stuff is absolutely off the charts when he throws, and I’m guessing that some of the BA guys have seen him throw and were impressed enough by what he brings when he’s healthy to think he’s got a chance to be special.
Personally I’d take Main over Brackman (his inability to get on the field scares the Buh-Jesus right out of me), but, no, I don’t find the idea of Brackman at the back end of the top hundred and Main in the 102-110 range to be laughable.

…from the Yankees. So did Carmen Angelini.

Yah and we went spent on some dumb guys, too. Should Patrick Boyd and KC Herren taint Michael Main?
And I know you were just throwing it out there as an example of the Yanks being dumb and weren’t directly comping them at all, but Brangelini and Brackman couldn’t have been more different as draft picks.

And Brackman is obviously extremely talented
I just think that you have to kind of put an asterisk beside Yankees bonuses. If you review some of their drafts or if you review their Latin bonuses, the consensus is that they overpay on quite a few guys – as they are wise to, given their situation.
Brackman could well be a front rotation pitcher, but he had pretty big knocks and had slipped in rankings even before his injury because of his mechanics and control, so I wouldn’t want to confuse him with a slam dunk talent who just had an injury.

I know that years ago
I compared old BA lists to results, and they erred way on the side of toolsiness. They used to love them some Donald Harris types, who could run, and throw, and run, and looked good in jeans, and run, but could never play baseball.
I have no idea how their more recent lists do though.
Get off my lawn.

They're different
The only thing that you see now is a lot of the slick (sometimes more style than substance), low power, no walk shortstop overranked. The Arias/Betancourt type.

Neftali Feliz
Not that it means anything in the grand scheme of things, but he’s the first Ranger pitching prospect to EVER crack the top 10 on a BA Top 100 list.
Kurt Miller (who did it twice) is the only other one to even rank in the top 15.
