That's awesome
for a couple of reasons. First, it shows that the Rangers weren’t only bad guys in this saga (though it is notable that he had noticed it while being in the Rangers clubhouse). Second, it is nice to know that Helling’s 20 win season, as unimpressive as it was, was a clean one in the midst of the height of steroid usage.
Of course
all the hitters who scored the bazillion runs of run support behind him so he could win 20 games with a four and a half ERA were juiced to the gills.
Get off my lawn.
The higher your ERA
the more run support you need to win a game.
When you are a mediocre pitcher like Helling was, the only way to win 20 games is to get insane run support, and he got it.
Some scores from games during Rick Helling’s 20 win season:
9-4
7-6
15-5
12-10
Thank God his hitters were juiced and gave him almost 7 runs per start. He was a league average inning eater for his career. Not the type you usually associate with being a 20 game winner.
Get off my lawn.

I hope he speaks at the union rep meetings about...
the ongoing spread of douchebags in the game.
