Makes me a little nervous??
What was the purpose of not signing him to a long term deal now?? Just curious. I know it was just one year last year but I kind of expected the FO would get him signed long term before this season started???
They are supposedly talking...
…but in the interim, they need to get a deal done at least for 2009.

Thanks!
Figured that much. I guess its not bad for your second year really in the majors to pull down half a mil.
This will be his third year in the majors
And all this was pretty standard practice for teams with their pre arbitration guys. There isn’t any negotiating involved. Its basically the team puts a contract together with a salary figure and the player has to sign it. They are supposedly working on a long term deal but those take time. And given Hamiltons age and past history coming up with a deal that suits both parties will probably take a little longer than your average 3rd year player.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I have now arrived.
I’ve made the lead page…..God (AJM) loves me.
In all seriousness….
I thought the big deal was that we had him under control for like 4 yrs after the trade….what’s the deal w/ this signing? I kinda think I know but I don’t want to type it bc if I’m wrong I don’t want to look like a moron :)….
Explanation please…..
My cool sig.

5 years after the trade.
He had 5 years left before free agency when we got him. 4 years left now. He’ll be eligible for arbitration after the 2009 season. The salary he’s getting this year under this deal is pretty much whatever the team wants it to be, though salaries above the minimum are done to keep the player and his agent happy and talking about long-term deals.
