Royals Ink Juan Cruz
"Cruz signed a two-year contract with an option for 2011. The deal was believed to be worth $2.25 million for this year, $3.25 million for '10 and a club option for $4 million for '11 with a $500,000 buyout."

Relievers
So the Royals give up some young, talented relievers for Mike Jacobs and Coco Crisp. Then they sign Kyle Farnsworth and Juan Cruz. I mean the Cruz deal is a pretty good one, especially since their 1st round pick is protected. However, the Royals really lucked into this deal because nobody else was willing to sign Cruz.

yeah
the cruz deal looks okay for them, but its still sort of weird that they are behaving like a big market club these last few offseasons. its not just that they are spending money, it’s that they arent spending it very judiciously a lot of the times. i guess the disappointment of gordon and butler and hochevar have kind of mucked up the plans, but it seems like they keep making the moves that a team on the verge of contention would make. maybe theyll put it all together this year in a wide open central.

I'm allowing myself one ridiculous prediction this year, and that prediction is the Royals will win the Central.

CHONE Projections
I looked at the CHONE projections, and they have both the Rangers and Royals at 72 – 90. It also has the Indians finishing at 90 – 72. I really don’t think that the disparity between the Indians and the Royals will be 18 games. Your prediction, with some luck for the Royals, might not be so ridiculous as you think.

I'm superstitious about certain things and I firmly believe that the Greinke extension was a great weight lifted off that franchise's shoulders.
Meche isn’t going anywhere. DeJesus isn’t going anywhere. Guillen doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere. Soria, Greinke. That’s not a bad core of players. The young guys in that clubhouse, specifically Gordon, Butler and Hochevar, know that these vets have it in them to be as good as they can be (or have been) and are counting on them to step-it-up… much like a Brandon McCarthy I guess.
So yeah, I think this could be a Royals team similar to the one in ’03, where guys like Desi Relaford put up career years and helped them put up a good run together. Only this time the Royals have a lot of options working for them… a better farm system, players they can flip at the deadline for prospect packages, and most importantly a good core of players at the big league level who are sticking around for a while.
