OT: Cowboys 09 NFC title favorites according to bookies
Yep
http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/02/the-cowboys-are-nfc-favorites-next-seaso.html
That's according to oddsmaking Web site www.BodogLife.com, which gives the Cowboys 9/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl. The Patriots (8/1) are the only team with better odds.
Odds for every team are after the jump.
Odds to win the 2010 Super Bowl XLIV
New England Patriots 8/1
Dallas Cowboys 9/1
New York Giants 10/1
Pittsburgh Steelers 10/1
Indianapolis Colts 12/1
San Diego Chargers 12/1
Baltimore Ravens 14/1
Tennessee Titans 16/1
Carolina Panthers 18/1
Philadelphia Eagles 18/1
New Orleans Saints 20/1
I dunno, you know I thought that was pretty good for the worst team of all time and everything like the Cowboys are. Well, at least thats what I'm told when I read the DMN.
Also, notice how we kind of beat SB champ Pittsburghs ass when we played them? I also think that's pretty amusing, that the worst run franchise in NFL history could stay on the field with such an incredible, magnificent, stellar, light years better than Dallas organization as Pittsburgh clearly is.

I'm pretty sure they were the favorites last year
And they didn’t get worse with the Roy Williams trade. I don’t know if these things take the coaches into consideration.

Obviously
you’re forgetting a little event called the Pro Bowl.
By the way, I’m throwing a Pro Bowl watching party at my place. Burgers, kegs…the whoole sha-bang. I can’t wait for the commercials. Who’s performing at half-time? Pleeease let it be Toto.

They were favorites for the super bowl last year
how did that work out for them?
If only they had a good Offensive Coordinator, they might be able to get somewhere.
Get off my lawn.

Yep, and now they're favorites again
Wow, they’re pretty good. I bet they have a good offensive coordinator.

If only
they had a qualified African American Head Coach like Timlin.

LOL, Timlin sucks
I dont like that guy. He seems to have a big head, now especially.
Luckily for him, head coaches dont matter at all in the NFL. As we all know. He has good coordinators.
And he got lucky. Pitt isnt really any better than Dallas, or Baltimore, or Arizona, or the NY Giants, or..you get the picture. They just got some bounces.

Or is it
Tomlin?

When are the Texans going to hire a qualified African American coach btw?
Is this like how the Democrats talk about equality and then have white guys write all Obama’s speeches?

if they had one.

Well get r done
Somehow, I dont see that happening.
They should really hire a qualified African American offensive coordinator, though.

Yeah
I would say odds are better than 50-50 the boys win a playoff game this year.
I’m almost certain they’ll get in, and probably have a home game, so the chances SHOULD be in their favor. After that it’s a crapshoot though.
Theres 8 or 10 good teams and who wins the Super Bowl is just kind of a crapshoot really. Once you get down to the final 4-8 teams every game is basically 50-50.

Meaningless
That simply means that there are more Cowboys fans out there than other fans. Proposition bets are set by figuring out the lowest odds you have to pay to get people to bet, nothing more. In the case of the Red Sox, you always see very low odds because there are lots of Sox fans and lots of quasi-baseball fans who know only that the Red Sox are good. In the case of the Cowboys, you have a lot of stubborn fans who don’t care about reality and will be on the Cowboys even if they are only a 40% chance to make the playoffs…
The Cowboys are the Yankees of football, except poorly run.

So the Cowboys are favored every year?

No
I’m not saying that. If there is an obvious team who’ll be favored strongly (i.e., Patriots coming into this past season), they’d have much lower odds. 9-1 isn’t that big of an endorsement; World Series odds are routinely around 5-1 or 6-1 for the favorites.
I would guess that their odds tend to be in the 8-10 range every year, if not lower, and that we’re basically seeing a floor effect for the Cowboys (barring a ridiculously bad Cowboys team). Its just this year there are no particularly strong contenders who’ll overshadow those odds, so they are at the top. Even if the bookies thought that Arizona was the best bet to return to the SB, you know the bookies would scoff at the notion of thinking more people would bet on the Cardinals than the Cowboys.

I understand what you're saying
I’d just like to see a case where the sexier team has better odds than the better team.

Steelers are the only team with an argument there, if you ask me.

Remove yourself from your Cowboys bias
The Giants went 12-4 this year, scored 133 more points than they gave up. They are a year removed from winning the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys went 9-7, gave up more points than they scored, and looked horrendous down the stretch. The clubhouse is a disaster – people are questioning whether their QB is legit and people are calling for them to drop their most talented player. I don’t see any reason why we should expect the 2009 Cowboys to improve greatly on last season.
You’re going to say that the Giants don’t have an argument for being a better bet in 2009?
The Colts were 12-4 despite stumbling out of the gate and playing in a much more difficult league. Their QB is a hall of famer, and their roster was set up for 2008 to be somewhat of a rebuilding year – I only expect them to be better next season. Other than having a harder path to get to the Super Bowl (stiffer competition within league), you think that the Colts have no argument to be a better bet than the Cowboys?
Now some of those other teams up there are overrated as well. The Chargers at 12-1 is stupid, I’m a Chargers fan and that team was just bad this season, despite the lucky/nice finish. I’d only make a 12-1 bet on them if I knew 100% that LT was healthy and guys like Merriman will be back in full, and we just don’t know that.

I don't want to write a book on it, so I'll just say
No bias here. I don’t like Wade Phillips, I’ve always hated Pacman, I wish T.O. was never a part of this franchise, but I think next year will provide our greatest shot at a Super Bowl in the Tony Romo era. Giants sucked without plexiglass. Colts playing their best football lost to the Chargers. The Chargers, fully healthy, are one of the top 4 teams in the NFL.

For those who care about the Rangers
their odds to win the 2009 World Series currently sits at 60-1. The same as the Colorado Rox and Toronto BJs.
Oakland is 55-1.

However, why any of you would care about some random sites odds on the Cowboys going to the SB next year when this season just ended, the draft hasn’t even taken place, and no other offseason moves have been made is just crazy.
