2008 Ranger performance by position
Just for grins, I thought it would be worthwhile to list the offensive lines put up at each position for the Rangers in 2008:
| POS | AVG | OBP | SLG |
| C | .276 | .344 | .425 |
| 1B | .257 | .321 | .453 |
| 2B | .303 | .359 | .476 |
| 3B | .281 | .339 | .469 |
| SS | .283 | .339 | .408 |
| LF | .246 | .322 | .402 |
| CF | .280 | .353 | .479 |
| RF | .317 | .383 | .571 |
| DH | .301 | .421 | .494 |
Comparing 2009 to 2008, I'll take the over at C, 1B, 2B, and LF, and the under on SS, 3B, CF, RF, and DH.

Wow...
first base was a black hole last year.

Not really
LF was a lot worse.

Yeah
And thats with Davis and Hank there for half the season. Broussard and Shelton really sucked the first half of the season

you expect Hambone to regress?
Doctor please. Some more of these.
by tricer on Mar 10, 2009 10:36 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I expect him to get...
…less than half the ABs in CF.
He got about 2/3rds of the CF ABs last year. I expect that by August or so, Borbon will be up and getting the bulk of those, and even before then, Hamilton will be getting more time in a COF or DH spot.

Borbon in center and Hamilton in right at midseason
That would make me very happy.
Keith Law: (1:45 PM ET ) I think Michael Young should shut his mouth and move to third base.

I think it's more that he won't be in CF all the time.

heh
It’s tough, knowing I grew up watching Millwood, growing up as a Braves fan. It’s tough to say, ‘I watching you when I was five, but hey, get the ball down.’ It’s just really tough. You want to go out there and tell them, ‘Listen, this is what I think will work.’
Watching you since I was 5? Not sure if that applies to Millwood.

Yeah, LOL
IIRC, I think he was 13 or 14 when he watched him but he was a Braves fan since he was 5.

Well
Maybe. C and CF are the two I had the hardest time deciding on.

because of all the shuffling
that can happen in the OF, it is probably easier to just look at all three positions as a whole. In that case, because of my belief that Hamilton will maintain and possibly improve with better second half numbers, and because of my optimism regarding Cruz, I think the OF as a whole will perform better than last year.

I'm not so sure I would take the under at third
MY played hurt last year and with just a little higher slugging he would equal third last year. Probably will be pretty close to a wash one way or the other

Basically...
Everyone who played out there hit worse while playing LF than while playing anywhere else.

Ok, thanks.
I didn’t recall throwing any huge 0’s out there.

I'm going to have to agree with all of those over-unders.
Kinda depressing until you think about the (hopefully) better D.

Does anyone have the league average by position
That would be useful for the sake of comparison.

Right field
Does the breeze in their faces turn our right fielders into mashers? That’s odd that the same group of players were sharing left and right and slugging 170 higher in right.
by bushe on Mar 10, 2009 12:25 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Its not the same players
Hamilton and Cruz both played RF but not LF. I think they probably account for the spike in SLG.
