Today's lineup up
Looks like what will probably be the Rangers' regular everyday lineup, except without Nelson Cruz in there...

Rangers win B game 3-2
Brandon Boggs hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to lift the Rangers to a 3-2 victory over Milwaukee in a B game. Boggs’ homer broke a 1-1 tie. The other Texas run came in the first on an RBI single from Travis Metcalf. Tommy Hunter started, going three innings and allowing one run. Warner Madrigal worked two scoreless innings. Kason Gabbard worked one scoreless before Omar Poveda worked the seventh and eighth. Guillermo Moscoso gave up a run in the ninth but got a double play to end the game.

are my ones to watch right now. I realize there are much more “intriguing” pitchers right now but these guys could be big in the pen (not necessarily Arlington) with breakout seasons.

I thought this game was going to be broadcast free on the Rangers web site:
The eight free webcasts on texasrangers.com Gameday Audio begin on Thursday, March 10, when the Rangers host San Francisco at Surprise Stadium at 2:05 p.m. CT.
Thursday, March 10th? 2:05 pm CT? WTF? Apparently no one took out a calender or factored in DLS time.

i guess he could be playing it cool
not to give the sense of impropriety.
but, it’s not like he’s a restricted free agent. the rangers could have signed to a league minimum deal the first year. are they really that cheap?
"To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant."
Mendoza
starts off by allowing the 8th and 9th hitters in arguably the weakest lineup in baseball to reach base. And these aren’t even their starters. Of course, a bad performance might help the Rangers slide him through waivers.
yeah
We sure wouldn’t want anybody to claim him from us.
I want him off the team. Every time I see him, I’m forced to think about how our crack evaluators thought he was the keeper and Galarraga was the discard. Bad thoughts, man.
Doctor please. Some more of these.
They aren't going to drop him from the 40 man
by Adam J. Morris on Mar 10, 2009 4:34 PM CDT up reply actions
No
Because he has a good arm and 2 options remaining.
Not sure where you get the “simply because of Galarraga” thing from…if anything, Feldman was the guy who was also potentially on the chopping block last year when that decision came down, or maybe Tejeda or Metcalf, not Mendoza.
by Adam J. Morris on Mar 10, 2009 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions
good point
on the options. I got the Galarraga thing from thinking the team has already made a statement in keeping him over Galarraga and will not give up on him until they give him a proper chance to prove them right in their eval.
a good arm?
he has one pitch, and it ain’t a very good one. What do you see in him? What does the team see in him?
Doctor please. Some more of these.

Look what the league did to him and his "pretty damn good pitch"
Opposing batters posted a line of .343 / .405 / .523 against him. Look at that again, it’s a .927 OPS.
So, no he doesn’t have “a pretty damn good pitch”
Doctor please. Some more of these.
So...
He got tattooed last season, a great deal. That means, in and of itself, he doesn’t have a pretty damn good pitch?
I don’t understand why you want to keep arguing with me about this, anyway. I said “okay.” I’m well aware of your feelings about Mendoza. And I’m well aware of Mendoza’s line from last season. Do you really think posting it again is going to change my mind?
He can throw a nasty sinker and a good breaking ball. When both those pitches are on, he’s very, very good. He showed last season he doesn’t have consistent command of those pitches, and that he’s also prone to meltdowns out there on the mound. That’s why I’ve said, time and again, that I’d like to see him spend the whole season in AAA, working on his stuff and his confidence. You posting his line from last season isn’t going to make me switch my opinion.
But hey, those dumbasses in Boston wanted Mendoza and weren’t interested in Galarraga last offseason, as well. What a moron that Theo Epstein must be.
by Adam J. Morris on Mar 10, 2009 5:01 PM CDT up reply actions
Mendoza has one year to change my mind.
The problems with Luis lie deeper than his control issues. The guy carries himself unprofessionally on the mound. The minute something goes wrong, all confidence in himself is zapped right out of his head.
The start in Boston: retired the first eight guys, then let the next ten or eleven batters reach safely
The start in New York: again, got through the Yankees order once, then imploded (Giambi grand slam)
The start against the Angels at home: got reamed for eight runs in the first two innings.
These are the signs of a kid who can’t handle pressure. And if he can’t correct himself this year at the age of 25, he never will.
Don’t care how good his sinker is. If he’s not able to use it to his advantage when he needs to, it doesn’t matter. Especially a guy who looks like he’s better suited for the bullpen anyway.
Yep

From EG's chat
@rob m. asks: We all know that the Rangers will need to go deep into their SP depth. What is your 6-10 starting pitchers on the depth chart?
ME: Right now, it goes like so after Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla, Matt Harrison, Scott Feldman and Brandon McCarthy:
6. Kris Benson
7. Jason Jennings
8. Derek Holland
9. Tommy Hunter
10. Luis Mendoza
Wouldn’t rule out Holland moving farther up the list, either
I sure hope the Rangers don’t need to go 10 deep on thier SP depth list this year.

Game wrap:
Scott Feldman had his second-consecutive scoreless start in loss to the Giants. Feldman pitched three innings, allowing one hit while walking two. He also threw a slider for the first time in a game situation. He threw two, but neither were strikes. The Rangers led 4-2 after David Murphy’s solo home run in the sixth inning. But the Giants scored two in the seventh after Luis Mendoza was forced to leave the game after a blister opened up on his right middle finger.
- Anthony Andro
"It doesn't look like he's trying. It kinda pisses me off," "He could throw 110 if he tried. The way it explodes out of his hand is really something special." ~ B-Mac on Feliz.
Didn't he have a blister problem at the end of ST last year. too?

is the worse of the pitching staff’s injuries.

was bothered by the blister during his 2nd stint on the DL (for shoulder inflamation).
He seems rather prone to blisters. Delicate skin? Strange grip?
