vs. LA- Mathis, Donnelly, Lizard, Gordon, Torres, Daigle, Diamond
vs. KC-Padilla, Madrigal, Gabbard, Francisco, Nippert, Poveda
Tejada is going for KC
"I saw your act, just didn't make it for me. Just a lot of fluff."
Did the S-T list the lineups wrong?
They have the A team playing LA and the B team playing KC

Probably the A team offense against the division rival
While the A team pitchers pitch to KC. One of those chess moves made during spring. Let your batters get as much work against the teams they will be facing most while hiding your pitchers from that team.

Kinsler a late scratch
Second baseman Ian Kinsler won’t play today against the Los Angeles Dodgers because of a bruise on his left foot. German Duran will replace Kinser and hit in the leadoff spot.
The injury is considered minor — Kinsler took batting practice and appeared fine — and he will be evaluated Saturday. He wasn’t on the travel squad for the Rangers’ game Saturday against the White Sox.
Kinsler fouled a ball off his foot Thursday and was removed for pinch-runner Duran in the sixth inning of a 9-1 win over Seattle. Kinsler went 2-for-3 to raise his spring average to .357.

well
still a valid point. the team cut bait with Tejeda after not really giving him a fair shot in the bullpen and then brought (some might say rushed) up Madrigal. It was a dumb move. Plain and simple.
im fine with him being gone.

Tejeda gave up a single to Arias, then
strike-em-out-throw-em-out DP, and a strike out. Yuck.

Maybe the fact he sucked was reason to let him go
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
did he?
i remember him being a pretty good pitcher from time to time. i also remember him struggling mightily with is control at times as well. he always seemed like an ideal bullpen arm, and I really hoped they would give him all of 2008 to prove himself one way or another. But you know its hard to give young pitchers a chance when you are in a pennant race…oh wait.
He's a guy who might have a good year
But will never have sustained success.

mental makeup
He just doesn’t have the mentality. Not a guy I care to have on my team.

i might agree
but it would have been worth it to at least give him a chance in the bullpen. perhaps he works up some trade value and we can flip him at year’s end. to just let a live arm walk for nothing like that is something that this team cannot afford to do (and yet seems to let happen every year).
Couldn't have put it better

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
then i think i'd rather have metcalf, honestly
but that is really choosing the lesser of two weak options.
how is Duran an asset
because he can play passable defense at many different spots while hitting around the mendoza line?
We don't know how well he will hit
I would say the last true sample we got was 2 years ago in AA.

eh
perhaps. i doubt a full year in AAA will allow him to get back up to his ‘07 numbers in Frisco, but he does seem like someone who could use some stability. I still think Arias looks like he could be a legit ML starter somewhere, whereas Duran is nothing more than a utility guy, and that is only if his bat improves, because his value ain’t in his defense.
Umm cause hes better than Arias
And Vallejo won’t sniff the majors this year
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
apparently the RBT shares your fascination with
Arias but he doesn’t have a ML arm anymore and might not have one ever again. How many years do want to let him rot on the 40 while he “builds arm strength” in AAA? 3 yrs? 4 yrs? Give me Duran who doesn’t have those issues and has shown he can hit for power. He is the one who deserves a full year in AAA and I’ll take him on the 40 thanks.
sorry
who is the “RBT”?
I can definitely see both sides to this, but I have more confidence in Arias’ improving his defensively abilities than in Duran improving his offensive abilities. I like them both, and honestly we should (and will) keep them both over Metcalf.
Rangers brain trust
Why do you have confidence in Arias improving his armstrength? He injured his shoulder in winter ball in 2006? Duran never got a chance to play consistent ball at AAA or the Majors. He was a bench guy and had some injury problems. He’s a natural second baseman who was ranked as high in the rankings after his AA year as Vallejo is ranked now. It seems to more that the logical thing to hold is that Duran has not had a chance to prove himself while Arias has had 3 years to im-prove himself. If there is a crunch on the 40 at mid-season, I have no problem at all letting outrighting both metcalf and arias off of the roster.
he was according to Dewan?

Are you his father or something
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
He doesn't get credit for being an average baseball player at best?
You are saying he could be one of the best defensive OFs in the game. Thats a little much IMO
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I'm not talking about him as a baseball player, i'm talking about his defense. You dont agree because Boggs isnt a household name.
I don't agree because hes not in the same ballpark as some of the great defensive players
His “household name” status has no affect on that. Hes a very nice defensive player but to say he could be one of the greats is a bit of a stretch
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Alright man you have a point...
but I still think he could be one of the best given enough playing time.
He said: "best defensive Left fielders,"
and according to Dewan, he was the 7th best at a +7 for 2008.
I don’t know where the cut-off for being above average is, but Boggs is a pretty good defensive left fielder.
Check the stats, absolutely, but look at the face.
-Bruce Jenkins
that stat is cumulative
so when you consider the amount of time that Boggs actually got to play, he’s easily one of the top defensive LF in the game, and I think he is a good CF option as well.
Doctor please. Some more of these.
