Has there ever
been a sitcom before or since that was entirely made up of catchphrases?

Well
That is a very terrible show…
Taxi or Three’s Company? I’ll just compile a bracket over time.
by brettgardner on Mar 13, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Taxi = Greatness
Three’s Company only funny when Furly is on.
"I saw your act, just didn't make it for me. Just a lot of fluff."
Meh
Maybe Taxi was funnier in the context of its time, but it doesn’t do much for me. Three’s Company is putrid.
Only ones I can enjoy when they come on late at night: pre-Kirstie Alley Cheers, first 2 seasons of Curb, first 3 seasons of Seinfeld, first 6 seasons of Simpsons, Honeymooners, and pre-little Ricky Lucy.
Hard for me to stomach much else.
by brettgardner on Mar 13, 2009 1:32 PM CDT up reply actions
sellout
personally i only like the first season of the honeymooners, the first episode of cheers, and the first 4 minutes of the first simpson’s episode

Yeah
I’m a critically and commercially-acclaimed television snob.
by brettgardner on Mar 13, 2009 1:47 PM CDT up reply actions
you act like that's not a thing
but it’s pretty common for a person to say:
I think the first X episodes/albums of <really popular tv show/band> are the best things on TV ever.
Doesn’t make the opinion any less stupid.
"To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant."
stupid is the wrong word
trite and annoying?
"To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant."
Saying
It’s stupid or trite and annoying doesn’t make it so, either.

Kaufman as Latka as Vic Ferrari
Doesn’t get much funnier than that…

Taxi was great
Three’s Company, in retrospect, as an adult, was terrible; however, as a 10-12 year old watching it, I thought it was great.

You have to make a choice.
It’s for science.

Three's Company is terrible...
…unless you are a 12 year old boy.
by Adam J. Morris on Mar 13, 2009 1:37 PM CDT up reply actions
See, 3's company for gen Xers is what Saved by the bell is for you guys
I agree w/ Adam.
Plus, they often went boobie-unharnessed, which, when you’re 12, is pretty effin cool.

The first Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, All in the Family, & Soap
should be highly seeded in your brackets.
"I saw your act, just didn't make it for me. Just a lot of fluff."
All in the Family
Forgot about that. I’ll add it to my list and to the AJM bracket.

Newhart
He made ironic blinking a catch phrase.
And few were funnier than Ted Knight.

the first newhart?
you mean the bob newhart show?
you’re going to have to be more specific – the man headlined five tv shows and only one of them was called newhart

apparently
it’s actually not that expensive to live in the “corn cobs.” I’m going to try my hardest.
"To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant."
That's the one
I guess it’s official title was ’The Bob Newhart Show". He said the stuttering of his words caused tension, and tension equals comedy.
Also, Suzanne Pleshette was sexy back then. And if you wanna get wasted, play the ‘Hi Bob’ drinking game with that show.
"I saw your act, just didn't make it for me. Just a lot of fluff."
Your Family Guy hatred is one of your less endearing traits, Adam.
Geez, why don’t you just announce that you’re now a Mariners fan?
it doesn't even make sense
family guy is tailored for people who watched welcome back kotter and three’s company.

family guy
is just pure pop culture awesomeness

Yeah...
I can’t understand how he loves Welcome Back Kotter, but hates Family Guy. Both have pretty similar structure.
I will say though, I find it disappointing how few of people I hang out with (I’m 23) know what Welcome Back Kotter is. Loved that show when I was younger on Nick at Nite.

You must have been playing
‘Ghetto Jeopardy’.
"I saw your act, just didn't make it for me. Just a lot of fluff."
i actually first heard of it on family guy
and but then started watching reruns at 1 am. I liked the fact that it was set in D.C. but that show was seriously good. Guy from Terminator 2 can carry a show.
