BTB hosting a live A.L. West chat session at 2 p.m.

BTB is hosting an A.L. West chat session.  I'm going to be a participant, along with several other A.L. West bloggers, as we field questions about the division.

Since it is over at BTB, it is geared to be saber-friendly, and it starts at 2 p.m. today.  Feel free to show up and throw some questions our way...

I wonder

If ab03 thought this was the BTB I was talking about, rather than the Cowboys one.

Adam,

You just suggested that Andrus could possibly win the GG… Really?!

by BuckyB on Mar 13, 2009 2:31 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

and Chris Davis leads the AL in homers?

I suppose it’s not impossible, but really?

I had to come up with a bold prediction

I had to think for a while, and that was the best I could come up with.

by Adam J. Morris on Mar 13, 2009 5:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Here's the thing

Young won it last year, and he obviously can’t win it this year.

Jeter’s not going to win it again, most likely…even the GG voters are starting to acknowledge he’s not good.

Cabrera seems like the most likely candidate. BUT, given that Andrus is a guy who is coming in with a lot of fanfare (because Young is having to change positions), and has a reputation for being a defensive whiz, if he comes in and plays well and the Rangers end up giving up a lot fewer runs, I think you’ll hear a lot of talk about the improved defense, and that could give Andrus the edge in what is likely to be a tight, close vote with a bunch of guys getting a handful of votes apiece.

by Adam J. Morris on Mar 13, 2009 5:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was so tempting

To endorse your bold suggestion, and add that Nelson Cruz could be he AL HR king … but I stayed quiet.

by Ed Coffin on Mar 13, 2009 5:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

well if andrus is supposed to better defensively then young

and young won it last year, then who knows what could happen?? It’s nice to dream, isnt it?

Am I the only one who thinks the Angels dude might have been a little unaware of other teams and reality?

I love that the Rangers are the least loathed team

Only 4% of readers hated the Rangers. Makes me feel all warm and tingly inside.

Unfortunately

Least loathed tends to correspond to least feared and least respected (also has to do with least recent success at winning the division). I’d like it more if the Rangers were much more loathed by division rivals for all the right reasons.

by mgb5 on Mar 13, 2009 7:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly

The Rangers are least loathed because they haven’t seriously challenged for the division much in 10 years.

upon rereading my own comments that was a bit too far. dbags was strong. apologies to the other mods as i know its not an easy job patrolling/policing the boards. and with computer lag time being what it is, its not easy too be funny in an online round table…

mea culpa.
