To me, it sounds like C.J. Wilson is unhappy about not being the closer

"today was a bullpen, and I throw in a game again on saturday.   I'll be debuting my windup- which I'm bringing back into effect to get me ready for possibly throwing more than one inning if needed.   Since it looks like I don't really have a chance at being the closer (the team seems very happy to name Frank Francisco as the 9th inning dude) I figure it can't hurt me to increase my versatility.  who knows, maybe in a few years I'll be a starter again since I won't be able to get the job back..."

This was taken from one of his blogs on myspace. What a little bitch. He sucked balls last year while FF was pretty dang good as a closer last year but he acts like they just stole the closer job from him. Grow up.

well

if frankie gets to the asb and sucks balls and cj has been cruising, then cj has a shot at it i’d guess.

he needs to earn it again, and at the same time frankie has to be bad.

i guess what i mean to say is

that frankie earned it… he played very well in that role. and it’s his to lose.

cj had it and was nice for half a season. he wasn’t troy percival good in that short stint, and he wasn’t good for a long period either. if he earns it again and can prove he can play well for a long term (more than half a season) then he should be the guy. but until frankie plays himself out of the role, it’s his.

Cause nowhere in your quote does it ever say he is unhappy about not being the closer. He acknowledges it and is hoping to improve himself to help this club out.

no need to delete. it’s reasonable to come to either conclusion from that quote. if CJ plays lights out with an ERA of like 2.25 or below and a whip below 1.00 for a long stretch there’s no reason why washington wouldn’t give it to him. just because he doesn’t have the job doesn’t mean he won’t get it.

i'm all for freedom of speech and such

but should a guy that is an average baseball player, not a star, keep posting on the internet after he has gotten in a bind more than once or twice over what he has done on the internet? probably not. at least post anonymously and only let people you trust know who you are. he should know (he is not a kid anymore) that just about anything that isn’t gumdrops and daisies could be taken as controversial even if it’s really not. anything can be taken out of context. and if what he typed is just him saying that for the good of the team he is gonna increase his arsenal, it can be taken as something worse. he could have left out a couple sentences like, “Since it looks like I don’t really have a chance at being the closer (the team seems very happy to name Frank Francisco as the 9th inning dude)” notice he said “the team” and not “we” or “us” or “our team”. and “who knows, maybe in a few years I’ll be a starter again since I won’t be able to get the job back…” maybe he could have said, “i will try and add some more plus pitches so i can be an asset to the team as a starter, hopefully”

we know that you wanna be either a starter or a closer, but try and word it better.

Characterizing CJ

As “a little bitch” really rankles me. He busts it to do his job, pushed himself (in his own self interest) when injured, and has made an acknoledgement that FX2 looks to be the team’s closer now. How he phrases it is way less important than CJ’s own preparation to do what the team needs, e.g. be ready to do multiple inning duty if needed. His maturity is a subjective thing. Depending on one’s point of view, anybody can (and does at times) seem a lot less than mature.

Not a fan of pusilanimous putdowns here. The club will decide how to use CJ, and I’d suggest he’ll do what the club wants him to do. Commentary or no commentary from him notwithstanding. Hey, I’m not an adoring fan of the guy, but it should be clear that we on a fan blog don’t score admiration points by low-classing him, either.

OK

So a guy that is 36/42 in save opportunities in his career in 1 and 1/2 years as a closer and at least half that time injured, isn’t given the CHANCE to win the closers job, because we think we have found the next Mo Rivera in a guy that has 5 saves in 4 seasons?? I am a big fan of both guys really, but Frankie didnt really show me enough last year to GIVE him the closers position, I think this should be an open battle to push both guys. And I dont want to hear the CJ era debate yeah it was a little high last year but that was inflated by a few really bad outings. FF does deserve the job this year. But CJ’s not exactly dog shit, either – 3.03 ERA in 2007 (since you like ERA so much, we won’t go into FIP, which isn’t as pretty). He can still play a valuable role in this bullpen if he’s healthy this year.

re: "didn’t bother to tell the team about his injury"

IIRC, it was pretty common knowledge he was trying to pitch through some problems, I think the issue was that he wasn’t completely honest about just how much the elbow was bothering him.

If we’re going to start punishing our athletes for downplaying their injuries and trying as hard as they can to stay on the field and work through them, then we’re not gonna have a lot of athletes left to root for.

I guess we could start rooting for the opposite.

So this really isn’t news to me. To me it just sounds like he’s saying he’d like to go back to starting – if anything, what he said could be construed as a compliment to Frankie Frank, since CJ doesn’t think he’ll be able to get the job back from him (and CJ of course, can be kind of notoriously full of himself).

What’s not helping anythough though, is people like you who take quotes off of his myspace and throw them up on sites like LSB in an effort to stir up trouble. Stuff like this is part of the reason why CJ got banned from posting here and eventually on his MLBlog by the Rangers – I’m no CJ cheerleader, but this was completely unnecessary.

So it’s perfectly okay to spin CJ’s quote into something negative, but you can’t say anything negative about the spinning? Ooookay.

I didn't threaten to have it pulled

I’m not a blog admin, I can’t “threaten” to do anything. I suggested it be pulled, which in my opinion, it should be, because of the way it’s presented.

I think it's appropriate to mention the blog post

But completely inappropriate to characterize him as “a little bitch.” Just as others have said, I would probably be bitter if I was “demoted” too (regardless of whether I deserved it or not).

Sometimes I wonder if I belong on this blog because my support for the guys wearing Rangers jerseys never wanes. I don’t believe in calling them names or tearing them down. Sure, they say stupid things sometimes. Sure, sometimes they have a bad day at the ballpark. That just proves that they’re human. It almost endears them to me more.

Don't you preach tolerance?

Stevoo’s opinion aside, this is a worthy fanpost.

Believe it or not, there’s a few of us here who like to know what’s on a player’s mind.

And to be perfectly honest with you, knowing C.J. and his irritating desire to sell his Pacificness, I read his comments the same way Stevoo did.

I’d really like the guy to shut his fucking mouth now and just do it. Get rid of the blue glove, the Iron Man music, the stupid walks behind the mound after every pitch, THE FUCKING BLOGGING… and go out there and put your balls on the stump.

C.J. Wilson ‘The Show’ is getting tiresome.

Better solution...

Would have been to say something like, “CJ has made a new blog post about his current situation with the team where he mentions FF as closer, how he doesn’t think he’ll get the job back, and how he’d like to be a starter. In my opinion, he’s being whiny”

That’s how the Young to third stuff was typically handled. And then the comments section went off. This is just an over-the-top presentation of opinion as fact.

a quick

read through of this fanpost should make it painfully clear whom the tittybaby’s are on LSB.

Those of you castigating the author of this post really need some levity in your lives. He did not present himself as a “media member” or a “reporter”. The guy provided content(the quote) and then offered his opinion regarding the subject of the provided content. I’m no weblog overlord but that would seem to meet the criteria for a fanpost. If this was offered up by a beat reporter for the paper your complaints might have some merit.

Now if you don’t mind, please kindly go and grab your shinebox.

Stevoo = Seth. = Steal Home.

If that helps.

Though he’s really matured a lot since his Steal Home days, imo.

I guess I could see that

He’s kind of gone from acting like a whiny 8 year old to a punk freshman in high school, yah.

In all seriousness, he reminds me a lot of my kid brother… although my kid brother at least knows you always take the BPA in the first round of a draft.
