Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Saturday morning stuff

Rangers lose both split squad games yesterday.  Evan Grant has the writeup on the loss to the Royals here, and the loss to the Dodgers here.  Andruw Jones was 0 for 3 with 2 Ks yesterday, putting a damper on his resurgence.

Anthony Andro says that, except for one pitch, Vicente Padilla was happy with his outing yesterday.

Grant writes that Warner Madrigal's impressive spring has enhanced his chances of starting the season as the righty setup man, despite going up against more experienced guys.

Jeff Wilson writes about Mike Maddux pushing the idea of throwing strikes and minimizing pitches this spring.

Hank Blalock will play at third base in a game or two next week, saying that the plan is for him to be ready to fill in there when Michael Young needs a day off.

We still don't know who the five prospects who are delayed over age-check issues are, but they apparently are not anyone included in BA's top 30 prospect list from this year.

Anyone know

if we’re going to get to watch today’s game? MLB says subj to blackout (I’ll be honest, I have no idea what the blackout rules are for a ST game)

Need to plan my day accordingly…

Thanks!

you should be able to see it

I have rangers spring training games before on mlb.tv. So there should not be a blackout. It will be on mlb network also if you have it

yeah that's what I was asking about

I don’t have the mlb.tv I just saw that it was on mlb network, but on the trailer at the bottom is said (subj to blackout)…

Just making sure bc I’m about to get a sitter and go knee up, drink some pints and watch some Ranjaaas.

Blackouts

I’ve never had a problem with blackouts for st games. I’m able to watch games on YES, NESN, and all the Fox Sports stations whereas during the regular season they are blocked. You should be fine.

i believe this is 'subject to blackout'

if you are able to get the game on Comcast Sportsnet (Chicago viewers)…

has actually had an eye exam.

You'd think

he would already have tried that as his career did a nose dive.

Blalock...

it would be nice if he could go out and play 3rd base a few times without his shoulder falling off. May increase his trade value at the deadline if some team actually thinks he could go back to 3rd base if needed.

Jones is done.

I'm encouraged

by what Maddox has been saying about pitching more efficiently; buttress that with what McCarthy said after his last outing and I think someone in the organization finally gets it. Quit nibbling and finessing our way out of arms and just throw strikes!

Maybe something to keep an eye on, but too earl to be certain about anything....

Padilla’s fast-paced start against the White Sox was with Teagarden behind the plate. Yesterday he had Saltalamacchia catching him.

The Domincan 5

-now 4 it seems – who might they be? here are six reasonable possibilites: Juan Grullon, Miguel Munoz(suspended anyways), Denny Peralta, Ezequiel Rijo, Ariel Ventura, Edwin Garcia

Only Garcia and Grullon merit a gr(ull)oan.

Anyone else

kinda feel sorry for Richard Durrett? That dude is on a sinking ship. I always forget about looking at his stuff, nothing personal, I have nothing against his work….

He’s like the guy in the neighborhood noone wants to play with.

And Adam hates him bc he never links up to any of his stuff…….(jk)

My God that was random.

Blogs

I’m surprised they haven’t merged the Star Telegram and DMN Ranger blogs. Both Wilson and Andro are having to post the same thing on both blogs.

Well

he’s gotten a lot of air time on 105.3, so he’s got that going for him which is nice.

Should we just go ahead and release Jones?

I mean if the club feels Andrus is ready, how far behind could Borbon really be? With the 1st round of cuts coming up, shouldn’t we just cut Jones altogether and keep Borbon with the big boys to give him a true shot at making the team?

I wouldn't lose any sleep over releasing him whatsoever.

However I want Borbon in AAA all year, mainly for the reasons everyone has pointed out.

I do see the benefits of keeping him up and letting him make the team…

I just think that in the long run it will benefit him more as a player (and the Rangers as a team) to give him one more year of marination.

The 20th

Though he has mentioned he is open to give the team more time for evaluation.

from an AP article on the DMN:

If not placed on the major league roster by March 20, Jones can opt out of his deal with the Rangers.

DMN AP Story

I also found an Evan Grant article that states the 20th. I know Andruw Jones stated he didn’t know a clause even existed and stated he would be open to give the team more time to evaluate him.

Jones

My biggest fear is they feel the need to keep him and someone loses a 40man spot that shouldnt.
That was my concern going into this too
