Kevin Goldstein chat
Kevin Goldstein is doing a chat session today at 1 p.m. Central.
On the off chance someone has a Rangers prospect question -- I know, I know, no one here cares about prospects, and the Rangers don't have any good prospects anyway -- go over there and pose a question.
UPDATE -- And now it is rescheduled for Thursday. Sorry.

He's on with BaD Radio in about 5 minutes.
"It doesn't look like he's trying. It kinda pisses me off," "He could throw 110 if he tried. The way it explodes out of his hand is really something special." ~ B-Mac on Feliz.

Not much we haven't already heard
Several players outside the Top 11 would be #2 in Astros’ system
Says Tex trade might be the best trade in Rangers’ history. Lopsided on Feliz alone.
Says Andrus plus defensive shortstop, #7, #8 in lineup. Quality player but not a superstar
Davis/Smoak/Ramirez: Someone will probably have to be traded at some point. Davis likely DH, Smoak at First.
Catcher: Salty is the best option long term. Teagarden excellent backup. Ramirez odd man out in both situations.
Pitchers: Best Pitching Staff in Low-A last year. Will likely do that again with new names. The Usual Suspects.
Really thinks Rangers will be perennial players in the AL beginning in 2010.
Harrison solid #4, #5. 180+ Innings and “not embarrass you”. Feliz could be a “monster”. Holland “well-above average”
I had a paper route when I was a kid. I was supposed to go to 2,000 houses. Or two dumpsters.
thanx

was that sarcasm I heard?
No prospects. bite your tongue.
Rangers put 6 players in BP’s top 100, more than any other team.
In an interview, JD talked about having Pitchers coming in waves. Those waves look like:
1) Feldman, Diamond, Hurley, Harrison (ready now!)
2) Feliz, Holland, Hunter, Moscoso (AAA, ETA 2010)
3) Poveda, Kiker (AA, ETA 2011)
4) Beavan, Main, Gomez, Boscan, Ramirez, Martin Perez, Font, Melo (A ball and below, no ETA yet)
Moscoso and Melo
I included these guys because they were the haul for Laird, but neither one really impresses me. Moscoso is 24 and Melo is still in rookie ball. Feliz, Holland, and Hunter are all 2 to 3 years younger than Moscoso.
And Melo just seems like the generic “Arm”, that gets thrown in. nothing to set him apart from the other 7 guys the Rangers are going to be splitting into their A ball rotations.a
Nothing sets him apart?

He’s 6’3’’ 180 lbs and already sits in the low 90s and can touch the mid 90s. He just turned 18. Give me a break.
"Generic 'arm'"
I think by this he means a talented pitcher who could go either way. Hasn’t done anything to distinguish himself professionally yet. I think of that in terms of the “arms” that Atlanta continually asked for in trades during the Schuerholz era. The only one that really panned out long-term was one of their best in John Smoltz. At the time of the trade, Smoltz was similar to Melo in that he had the arm, but hadn’t done anything to distinguish himself as a true prospect.
I think that’s what he meant, but I could be wrong.
you should definitely
start your own blog. The traffic would likely crash servers.
a ferchrise.
Kevin Goldstein: Folks, Kevin just had a power outage. Curses! We’ll move your unanswered questions to a chat on Thursday at 3pm ET—the link will be up momentarily. Sorry for the inconvenience.
