The A's and the 'C'-word
This article in the NY Daily News talks about how the A's disintegrating stadium deal (which is probably good news for the Rangers) actually may make them (as well as the Marlins) vulnerable to contraction if the economy doesn't get better.

I really don't see
MLB contracting no matter how bad things get.

I agree
its just interseting that it is getting mentioned. And that it is the A’s.
The A’s stadium deal falling through is something that has not been discussed enough around here. That deal in Fremont was a bad omen for the Rangers. Instead, they’re going to be finding it harder and harder to keep up, especially since Beane published his competitive advantage a few years ago

It is an interesting thought
but I’d think the teams would angle more towards increased revenue sharing, or salary caps/floors, or other ways to assuage the grief of teams blocked out of sweet stadium deals, since cities seem to be realizing what a horrible way to manage their money those are.

Let's say the recession lasts five years. Is it worth contracting a couple teams just to expand a few years later?
How about ten years? Fifteen? I just don’t see contraction as a smart move. Forcing some sort of pay decrease seems smarter.
