Today's game
No lineup up that I've seen, so no link to that.
But I'm about to leave the office, so I'm going to put the game thread up now.

Today's lineup
Here are the lineups for today’s game at Hi Corbett Field. The Rangers pitchers will bat, or at least stand in the batter’s box and take until they strike out. One note: Right-hander Pedro Strop made the trip as a just-in-case pitcher and could make his spring debut against his former organization. The Rangers nabbed him in November after the Rockies released the former shortstop.

I really hope we see a strong pitching performance today. I care so much more about a game like this than yesterday’s game.
Royce Huffman?
Is there an inside joke I don’t know about?

I am surprised so many regulars mad ehtey 2.5 hour drive to Tucson. I think Davis leads the team in ABs so he needs a day off.

From a Jan. 13 Rangers PR
MINOR LEAGUE SIGNING: Texas has signed utility player Royce Huffman to a minor league contract. He will be in minor league camp during spring training. Huffman does not have any major league service time, but he has spent the past six seasons at the Triple-A level. He spent last season with Charlotte (AAA) in the Chicago White Sox system, batting .259 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI in 106 games. Originally selected by Houston in the 12th round of the 1999 June draft, the Houston area native played football and baseball at Texas Christian University. He has a career .294 average in the minors over a 10-year professional career.

I can’t read the part on Alvarez, and there’s apparently a third profile (Ortiz? I know Jamey and Lucas put him in today’s report.)
"[Font} doesn't turn 19 until the end of May and his heater can already hit 99 on the gun. That's baseball porn." - Jason Parks
The third is on Font:
Wilmer Font threw an inning for the Rangers’ low-A team as well, touching 98 mph as usual with a good changeup. He’s healthy again after missing last year with shoulder and knee injuries, and is also in better overall shape, with less excess baggage around his midsection. He’s 19 with absurd arm strength and at least one decent secondary pitch. You don’t need me to tell you this is a Good Thing.

Hasn’t that been said about a number of Ranger pitchers? Is it possible, in 5 years, that the hiring of Nolan Ryan will be seen as the most influential move Hicks has made as an owner? Maybe in all of baseball. If Nolan’s conditioning and pitching philosophy turn around the Rangers’ pitching staff then other organizations will also follow what he preaches.

I think personally, I’ve taken for granted that if a player is in the minor leagues, he’s going to do everything he can to make it to the top, but it’s easy to see the higher level of competition and it’s affect on everyone’s work ethic.
Contract-years for Padilla and Millwood in a shitty economy helps, too.
Excited about Strop
I hope he is truly back to 100% and can show us (and the Rockies) what he really has.
Man, according to MLB.com's audio/video board, there's not even a radio broadcast today

He was saying his friends were always trying to get him to let them throw one, but all that would happen would be that he’d be short a pill when he really needs it.
That happened to me this past Saturday with my PC
took all day to get back my stuff for a brief I need to write for my final exam due Monday
ST stats projected over the year (only 500 at-bats)
.AVG /.OBP / .SLG / Run / HR/ RBI
.333/ .400/ 1.048/ 214 / 95 / 262
Nice
We could use a 95-HR season from someone.

6-1 Rangers
Both Nelly Cruz and Frankie Cat with 3 run jacks. Matt Harrison’s looking good through 4.2, although he just gave up a double to Ryan Spilborghs.

Damn Helton
What a prick to do that to Matt like that.

2 on 1 out.....I say swing away Harrison!
When I see a solar eclipse I think "oh no, is the moon eating the sun"
I think my Gameday broke.
It says Elvis just got an extra base hit.
Excellent!

Harrison done for the day
Gac PH for Harrison, singled, which drove in Huffman, Elvis to 3rd.
Kinsler sac fly brings in Elvis.
Harrison had a decent day
I would take that 1 thru 5 every day of the week.
Keith Law on Greg Golson, "He's similiar to Cameron and Hunter in that all three are black."
Wasn't a bunch of minor leaguers either
Helton, Tulo, Spilborghs, Hawpe, Stewart, Barmes.
Pretty impressive.
Only 5 hits
but 4 of them for extra bases.

I can't decide whether Derrick Turnbow's gameday photo looks douchy, medieval or both.
medieval

Do you keep the evil eye on him?
Keith Law on Greg Golson, "He's similiar to Cameron and Hunter in that all three are black."
Hawk-eye..
8 mos old, fully mobile.
Fingers and tongue in sockets. Quarters, tape, paper, dust-bunnies in his mouth. Forehead on corner of fireplace / coffee table.
3-4 diapers per day filled with “just started eating real food” baby-deuces.
Stressful.
My cool sig.
Stressful
I have a 17 yo daughter now that is stressful. I now understand why dads didn’t like me when I was that age.
Keith Law on Greg Golson, "He's similiar to Cameron and Hunter in that all three are black."
I had a friend in high school
and her Dad would clean his shotgun in the living room when she brought home a new guy for him to meet. Of course I lived in east Texas at the time so that was pretty much the norm.

RBI double. Nothing like a 36 y/o backup catcher with a 75 career OPS+ hitting .667 in spring training to make you appreciate the magic of small sample sizes.

good NIGHT Nelson Cruz...
fantasy draft this Sunday…must pay whatever necessary
4 HR and 11 RBI in only how many spring at bats?
"Hang-Dai, Wu...Hang-Fu$&ing-Dai"
this is spring training.
you all are celebrating a little too early.
I don't get it, why would life give me lemons?
Heh @ the pic Cruz uses for his blog
http://www.nelsoncruzbaseball.com/
well, he doesn’t write it but I think its his anyway.
the preceding post was a great success.
I was searching for his dominican winter league stats
In my compilation of stats to destroy your hate of cruz, and his blog is the 3rd result since it mentions the winter league 3-4 times. Obviously I had never seen it before.
the preceding post was a great success.
I don't get it.
But don’t wast your time with the stats. I’ll believe he belongs in the majors when he proves he can play in the majors. Hopefully he does, it’s not like I want him to fail it’s just I think he will.
