Baseball writer John Brattain dead
Shocking. I've enjoyed Brattain's articles over at The Hardball Times for a long time, good writer.

Far too reminiscent of Doug Pappas's sudden passing
One of my favorite THT writers. RIP.

That's what I thought, too.
Always seemed to have a great sense of humor from his posts at BTF.

It's unbelieveable
As I said on the THT internal mail, on my best day I’m not half as smart or funny as Brattain was on his worst. I didn’t have a lot of personal dialogue with him, but whether it was on internal discussions, on BBTF/Primer, or in his articles, I always admired him and valued his abilities. The world is less interesting and funny today.
The people who have had longer, more active tenures at THT than I are absolutely torn apart. People who are never lacking for things to say are speechless.
The guy endured agonizing illness for quite a long time now as his body actively worked against its own self and he never complained and in fact actively found humor in it.
Mourn for his family and his friends. He leaves behind a lot of people.
Best Regards John,
Sincerely, the OTHER John
