Strasburg Pitching in Fort Worth on Friday
San Diego State plays TCU this weekend... Strasburg scheduled to start Friday... anyone going to see him?
SAN DIEGO – The radar gun blinks wildly. It’s not used to this. No one makes it strain to read out a third digit. It looks like binary code, not the speed of a pitch from a 20-year-old kid: 101.
It keeps showing up, 101 again and again, and as scouts peek at the number, they ask aloud what everyone else in the baseball world wonders: Will Stephen Strasburg someday throw a baseball harder than anyone has before?
Two men holding radar guns as well as his pitching coach said he has touched 103 mph this season. Only three others have done that, and all were major league relief pitchers, not juniors in college. Strasburg is a starter for San Diego State, and his velocity levels off in triple digits, something never seen, not from Nolan Ryan or Randy Johnson or any of the modern fireballers since the advent of the radar gun.
So it’s no surprise that Strasburg is dominating college like no pitcher ever has. He has 74 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings, meaning only 29 outs have come via batted ball. He fanned 23 batters in one game last year, and in seven outings with Team USA last summer, culminating with the Beijing Olympics, he struck out 62 in 41 innings.

Strasburg
At the age of 20, can anyone expect him to grow from 6’4’’ to something like 6’6’’? If that happens, his release point will be even closer to home plate. Could that make his fastball seem even faster?
Yeah I guess any advantage helps...
But if he came from a 2" higher downward plane that would be a bigger advantage as well.

What do you think it would cost to trade up to #1?
Do you consider trading Teagarden and a lower-level pitching prospect?
It would take more than that.
And since it’s not allowed, it doesn’t matter.

If that were allowed
Trading for the Nat’s pick (or Strasburg’s rights) would cost someone along the lines of Hamilton or Kinsler, plus a prospect arm on the order of Perez or Main.
If you buy the argument that Strasburg is the most valuable player in the draft since ARod or Ken Griffey, then you really have to think that he’s borderline priceless. Simply put, no single prospect in the Rangers system is anywhere close to as valuable as he is. That isn’t to say Feliz or Perez won’t have a better career – anything can happen. The only thing lowering his value right now is that he isn’t signed – the Nats may trade an unsigned Strasburg for a signed David Price or Matt Weiters, but that’s about it.
A record crowd of 4,294 fans packed the stadium as the Frogs squared-off against Big 12 Conference-foe Texas A&M while 7,468 Frog faithful filled Lupton Stadium for a three-game series against nationally powerhouse Cal State-Fullerton.
Think that will be beaten this weekend? Strasburg will be a huge draw.
Of course if you've got the chance
you draft him, but what are the chances that his shoulder can take years of throwing 103? So many fireballers have very short careers. Nolan Ryan, the freak of nature is the exception.
I'm going straight from KTCU Friday afternoon
to see him. Haven’t seen TCU Baseball this year, so it’s a good opportunity to take in a game.

And of course as I type that
I realized that I’m filming for Student Film Association this Friday all afternoon. D’oh.

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Video...
I’m going to try and use my rinky dink camera to get some decent video of it, no word if it will work well or not.. I will be posting some pics and interviews I’m going to do with some of the TCU hitters after the game on the blog, however.

Worst. Uniforms. Ever.
And Strasburg looks like a failure. Just looks way to cocky to ever accept any instruction and will probably flame out in 3 years.
The worst thing about being a Rangers fan.....hope.
Plus
based on the Team USA picture above, he is pitching in black socks with the Under Armour logo showing. That right there shows a level of douchiness not easily accomplished.

will call
some clarification on the will call situation. when i bought the tickets, the website was a little confusing and said to pick up the tickets at daniel meyer.
just called a guy in the ticket office and he said the tickets will be at daniel meyer for pickup until an hour before the game, where they will be moved to the ticket office at the actual baseball field. so as long as you get there at 530 or after, your tickets will be at the baseball field
They told me the tickets will be moved over at four.
