Hicks looking to sell part of Rangers & Stars
He might be selling parts of the team which I think would be great news! Maybe Cuban can buy part of the Rangers and then buy Hicks out. This man is cheap and does not care about winning or the fans. He has a pathetic team salary for a big market team. I would love Nolan and Cuban to buy shares and invest their money into this team. If that happens I see the Rangers bringing in the best players to go along with their young players and building a winning and entertaining team for years to come.

Don't want Cuban, but would love another owner
Cuban would meddle too much
Enough Andruw Jones! This is getting ridiculous!

haha
Can you imagine him jumping out of the owners’ box and onto the field to argue balls and strikes? That would be hilarious. Very bad, but hilarious.
Cuban doesn’t seem to have the temperament to own a baseball team. I could be wrong, but to me he seems like he has enough trouble with the Mavericks although he has done a lot of good things there.

From Jeff Wilson
Tom Hicks confirmed that he is seeking investors to buy into the Rangers — and will start to do so soon with the Stars — but he said the process is “not a big deal.” Hicks said he hopes team president Nolan Ryan will invest in the Rangers, but he doesn’t expect President Bush to become a partner.
Hicks said he owns 95 percent of each franchise, and “I don’t need to own 95 percent of any team.” He would maintain controlling interest when the process is over.

He's only looking to sell up to 49% of the teams.
So he still wants a controlling interest.

The economy must have hurt him real bad
because it is no time to sell part of your stake in the Rangers. Talk about buying low with the future looking really bright.

would he still be able to own the CC hooks and the round rock teams (minors)
or would he have to sell them if he owned a major league team?

I'm sure that if he wanted to keep them
he’d engineer a sale to his kids, much like Selig did with the Brewers when he became Commissioner.

come to think of it
i think he did that already in order to become rangers team president, so its a moot point anyway
iirc his kids are running the teams anyway

Report said 49%
but he only owns 95% so is it talking about 45% of his stock or the entire club?
by blueballlefty on Mar 26, 2009 12:05 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
He's willing
to see up to 44% of his 95% of the Rangers. He wants to make sure he owns at least 51% of each franchise so that he still has controlling interest.

Tom Hicks is going broke
here’s my math:
he’s trying to sell LFC before he has to pay 350,000,000 pounds in mid july + he is trying to sell the Stars + he is trying to sell the Rangers + HSG was his collateral to get the loan for Kop Holdings which has its payment due + Tom Hicks is talking about a $50M payroll next season = Tom Hicks is in over his head, He’s done.
I just hope the guy totally loses his shirt and has to sell everything. I hate that guy.

Hicks
Considering that George Gillette is also trying to sell part (if not all) of the Montreal Canadiens, and he’s Hicks’ partner with Liverpool, that they’re both selling off part of their U.S.- based clubs to help pay that massive 350 million pound note on Liverpool.
Hicks has also been talking to some investors about buying into Liverpool, so it appears he’s either having money problems, has realized that he needs more than one partner to afford his sports teams, or both.

I think part of both owners issues is the
dried up commercial lending market, and subsequently the disappearance of institutional and private venture capital. In essence, Hicks has most likely ran through all the usual suspects in that arena, and is now looking for partner investors. I feel this is the only way any of this would ever hit the public knowledge.
