Lackey starting the season on the d.l.
It was originally reported that John Lackey's forearm soreness was a relatively minor matter, and he was just going to skip today's start.
Instead, however, word now is that he's starting the season on the disabled list, because of inflammation in his elbow, and Lewis Yocum is coming in to review his MRI.
The Angels now have an Opening Day rotation of Saunders/Weaver/Moseley/Adenhart/Loux. Compare that to the Rangers Opening Day rotation of Millwood/Padilla/McCarthy/Harrison/Benson or Feldman.

i believe the way this script plays out
the rangers at best play 500 ball for april and once lackey comes back, we all forget that the rangers were actually close the lead.
Ceterum censeo Cat esse delendam - Cahill the Elder
Well not sure how you can state "at best"...
.500 considering:
1. This is the easiest opponents we’ve faced in April in some time.
2. Our first 9 of 12 games are at home.
3. This is the healthiest we’ve been in some time barring some late injuries before opening day.
Add to the fact that the Angels were already looking to regress from last year and are dealing with major pitching injuries, I can’t see why we can’t come out of the gates firing.
It’s ok to be optimistic every now and then when things actually do look bright.

Oh SNAP!
This ain’t good news for Mr. Lackey, or the Angles (not that I care about them :))
What percentage of times has Yocum been consulted that didn’t result in surgury? 10%?

Yocum
He’s the Angels’ team physician.

I understand that.
But still, when Yocum reviews an MRI, it is usually very bad news. In my mind, it is more a case of a player or team saying “Nuh-uh, I don’t need to be cut on”.

That's probably true for most other teams
when Yocum is brought in as the 2nd opinion. But it he’s the Angels team orthopod, he is the first opinion and probably reviews (or orders) all their MRIs. When we hear that James Andrews is being consulted, then we’ll know he’s on the way to having surgery.

Hmm
Who would have ever thunk the Rangers would be the healthiest team in the west going into the season?

A's rotation
Is now: Braden and four guys who should be at Double-A this year.
Hmmm… make that two guys who should be at Triple-A and three guys who should be at Double-A.
I never thought I’d think this…. but right now I’d take the Rangers rotation over anyone else’s in the division.
I need a drink….
No, the M's have by far the best rotation now that Lackey and Duke are out.
If they get 300 combined innings from Morrow and Bedard they could be beastly.
And that defense is gonna be something, especially in the OF. Chavez and Gutierrez can both really go get the ball.

Last year people overestimated the Mariners
this year many are underrating them. They won’t be good, but they’re not nearly as bad as people think.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
Felix and who?
Is Bedard 100% healthy? And I understand Morrow has the dreaded “forearm tightness”…
Yeah, I’d take TX over SEA.
yeah, someday
I’ll figure out how to maneuver the mouse in such a way as to actually click on “reply”
Well, yeah without Bedard and Morrow their rotation is a collection of crap equivalent to ours
But Felix is a pretty damn good #1.
She was a grand old lady...
I don't disagree
But he can only pitch one day out of five.
Did you know King Felix had a 5.000 OPS in 2008? Impressive…
If you'd take the Rangers' 5 over the Mariners' 5 right now, you're absolutely batshit crazy.
Either that or just a homer, which I can understand.
But, seriously. F-Her, Bedard, Morrow, Washburn, Silva, Rowland-Smith, etc. is way better than our 5, even with the questions regarding Bedard and Morrow.

seriously..
give us the m’s rotation and we may be the division favorites with lackey healthy.
M’s rotation >>> Rangers.
Of course, the M’s don’t have anywhere near the rangers minor league SPs.
the preceding post was a great success.
Angels
Does anyone else find it sad that they can lose their three best pitchers and still have a better rotation than the Rangers?

I don't really think
Saunders/Weaver/Moseley/Adenhart/Loux is better than Millwood/Padilla/McCarthy/Harrison/Benson or Feldman, actually. Roughly equivalent, probably.
Their saving grace is Escobar will be back by May, and Lackey and Santana aren’t out indefinitely either.
She was a grand old lady...
What the Angels used to have
was consistency. Moseley/Adenhart/Loux are not bad, but they are going to be wildly inconsistent.
I really think Millwood, Padilla, Harrison and Benson\Feldman will be fairly consistent. Not fabulous, but consistently league average. I have no idea what McCarthy will do, but one wildly inconsistent guy vs three is a win for the Rangers.
I disagree
We can think and hope that the Rangers will be better this season, but based on performance over the last couple of years I don’t think there’s any way one could say that the Rangers rotation has been better than this Angels rotation.

I'd take Texas vs. Anaheim
in a 5 game series right now though…I won’t believe we’re better than the Angels until the season actually proves so, but it just SEEMS that way now…more than it has the past several years

You know
our bats will bail some of our bad starts out, the rest of the division does not have that ability. That could open the door!

I second this
Keith Law on Greg Golson, "He's similiar to Cameron and Hunter in that all three are black."
God, the AL West is just a pathetic division. I'm ashamed we have to be affiliated with it.

We have the worst rotation in baseball.
The sooner everybody realizes this, the easier the pain will be to take.

they can be a bad rotation...
but I want consistently bad. not lots of injuries and plug-and-play spare parts moving in and out. let the vets prove they are still horrible, then bring on the youth…and then role with that inconsistency.

C'mon. What about the O's and Nats?
The O’s have Guthrie, who is okay, but after him and Koji Uehara (who I guess is supposed to be this year’s Hiroki Kuroda) the options are Adam Eaton, Hayden Penn, Rich Hill (who is starting the season on the DL I think) and Mark Hendrickson. That’s pretty dismal.
The Nats have John Lannan, Scott Olsen, Daniel Cabrera and a couple unknowns in Sharion Martis and Jordan Zimmerman.
Aside from Peavy, the Padres roto sucks pretty hard too. Chris Young isn’t that good, and Cha Seung Baek, Kevin Correia and the perpetually injured Shawn Hill probably aren’t even 5th starters here in Texas.
She was a grand old lady...
you know its bad
when your 3-5 starters wouldnt even be the 5th starter here. Poor Padres.
my sig is better than yours
