The Duke is Down
http://www.ibabuzz.com/chinmusic/ (Contra Costa Times A's blog) says:
A’s ace Justin Duchscherer will visit a Phoenix-area specialist today, Dr. Doug Freedberg, to have his sore right elbow examined. Bob Geren said he believed Duchscherer also would get an MRI, but didn’t know if that would happen today. The A’s are waiting for the results from Duchscherer’s visit before deciding whether to shut him down for a period. Obviously this development is looking gloomier by the day for the A’s starting rotation, which is already very young and inexperienced even with a healthy Duchscherer

Sucks for them
I’m not going to complain though
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Screw the MFing A’s
Keith Law on Greg Golson, "He's similiar to Cameron and Hunter in that all three are black."
+1
"It doesn't look like he's trying. It kinda pisses me off," "He could throw 110 if he tried. The way it explodes out of his hand is really something special." ~ B-Mac on Feliz.
How many people expected him to repeat last years numbers?
.240 BABIP and a WHIP of 1.00? I was expecting him to be a lot worse as it is..
Poor Oak
just injury prone
as heck
but evidently is supposed to be a good guy
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
Hoping for not a good year for them
Keith Law on Greg Golson, "He's similiar to Cameron and Hunter in that all three are black."
Yep.
Certainly doesn’t hurt our chances anyway…

uhh ok?

Bobby Crosby
is whining about being sidelined now that they’ve signed Cabrera. That’s ballsy. He should be thanking his lucky stars for all the money he’s made while not contributing jack squat.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
Ballsy Crosby's got a nice ring to it
Jack Squat is not quite so nice
If he keeps up the whining
people will begin to say he doesn’t play the game the right way.

If Duchscherer...
is out for any long period of time then the A’s would have the worst rotation in the AL, a spot normally reserved for our beloved Rangers. They had to count on guys to step up on the pitching side of things to contend this year anyway, even with Justin. Now if they lose him they will really be hurting. Sucks for them since they seem to have filled the offensive void they had last year, but it seems have created a pitching void now from deals and injuries. I wonder if this means they will rush Cahill or Anderson?
Last year no hitting. This year no pitching. So sorry A’s.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
worst in AL? probably not
most experienced? yes
i think the great defense, that ballpark benefitting pitchers and deep bullpen might mask some of those weaknesses. i guess it takes s different view, would you rather have upside of unknowns who may or may not be ready or known overpaid mediocrity who will give you innings, but not always quality ones for the most part (like a millwood/padilla)
not saying it will happen since the rangers and A’s are both in the same boat w/ largely inexperienced rotations. but do we forget in 07 how rockies did fairly well w/ a group of inexperienced pitchers. last yr minn/rays were similar. heck, the world champions got by with hamels and his merry men of 4-5era pitchers. its not ideal, but it isnt impossible either.

The Rays didn't have an inexperienced staff
They had a young staff but most if not all had prior ML experience. Most had multiple years of experience.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Who currently on the A's ML staff
is projected to be that good to begin with? I might be mistaken, but it looks like most of those guys currently in the rotation aren’t your middle-top of the rotation ceiling starters. There are some guys like that on the way, but not quite there yet.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

well i think there's some upside w/ Gio/Gallagher
i dont consider them scrubs since they were at one point well regarded and they are 22/23
i see braden/eveland as more your typical back rotation guys
like i said, their inexperience and weaknesses right now maybe helped out w/ the defense, a potentially dominant bullpen to shorten games, and a pitcher friendly ballpark
at worst if they all suck and blow up, there is some depth there to bring up other sp’s or there’s trade ammo to bring in some stability of an innings eater veteran type.

There was an article somewhere a couple of days ago about contraction
with the A’s and the Marlins being shut down. Sure, it was just some sportswriter’s idle musings, bu how awesome would it be if we got Inoa in the dispersal draft
Another update
He could miss his opening day start as he has been shut down for a week. However, he sounds pretty pessimistic:
Duchscherer, a converted reliever who missed 42 games with elbow tendinitis in 2006 and has dealt with similar issues at various times during the past three seasons, said the pain he’s experiencing now is not unlike the pain that shelved him in 2006.
“It’s the same kind of pain, but it’s more pain,” Duchscherer added. “It doesn’t bother me at all except when I’m throwing, and even then it doesn’t bother me until I start throwing at about 80-percent intensity. But once I get up to 80 percent, it’s pretty bad — to the point that I can’t even bend my elbow.”
Duchscherer, 31, has been on the disabled list four times in the past three seasons, and he’s also missed significant time with various injuries that didn’t require a trip to the DL.
To say that Duchscherer’s frustrated right now would be a massive understatement.
“The only thing I can do is come to the field every day and just run,” he said. "The worst part is not knowing exactly what it is. I’d have liked to have heard something definitive [Tuesday], one way or another, but it’s still an unknown.
“I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s hard to do that when we still don’t know exactly what’s wrong. … It’s brutal.”
