OT - Conflicker Worm
Anyone getting nervous with this virus coming out tomorrow?
Anyone know anything about it?
I have the Avast free software version, will that be enough to protect my computer?

I spent way too much time...
talking to 80 year olds about it at work last weekend because of bleeping 60 Minutes. What I wanted to say: “I think you and Morley Safer are okay, sir. I don’t think a virus has been written for Windows 95 in 10 years.”
"I know you're a bit dense but no, it doesn't. Obviously lying isn't a problem for me."

Were you able to get security updates in March
if yes then you should be okay.

Amazing
"My mother always taught me that if the only thing you have to say is,
‘(Expletive) Dave Samson,’ then don’t say anything at all.
So I’m not going to say anything at all.

Microsoft came out with the patch back in October ...
… before the virus actually started appearing. The patches by Microsoft are available for XP SP2, SP3, Windows 2000 SP4 and Vista. There is no patch for XP SP1 since it is no longer supported. Basically, if you have XP and at least SP 2 then as long as you’ve updated your machine since October you should be safe.

TCU Tech gave us some info.... Seen Below
On March 29, 2009 US-CERT (United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team) sent out an alert regarding the Conficker Worm which targets Microsoft Windows systems that have not received the latest patches and updates. The worm is programmed to evolve and possibly wreak havoc on Wednesday April 1 (April Fool’s Day).
To prevent infection keep your computer up-to-date.
Technology Resources would like to stress the importance of keeping your Microsoft Windows system updated with the latest patches. You can verify you have all the appropriate patches by going to the Windows Update page (http://update.microsoft.com). To configure Windows Update to run automatically, navigate to the Control Panel, select Security Center and make the appropriate selections for time of updates and download instructions.
The presence of a Conficker infection may be detected if you cannot navigate to the following websites:
To remove an infection:
If you cannot navigate to one of the websites you will need to remove the infection manually. Instructions can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830
The complete CERT alert can be viewed here:
