I still think

Manny + Texas would have been fun. Mostly for the aggravation he’d cause everyone.

or

fun when he would have gone .314/.411/.593 (his career average)

That line is just plain stupid

Nobody wins unanimous election to the Hall because the BBWAA writers are stupid, but of all the active players, ManRam is as good of a case for unanimous election as there is.

The stupid thing is that

this was the original offer. They went through a 4 month process of going in circles. It was a standoff and the Dodgers won.

But Boras will spin it

That he got everything he was asking for.

Boras thought he could drum up a market out there, but he was wrong

I wonder how this would have played out had we not been in the midst of a recession and financial crisis. Assuming normal market conditions, I don’t think there would have been a 15 team frenzy over him, but I think there would have been three or four in the bidding. But as it were, with the current financial uncertainties hanging over the sport, I think the semi-interested teams were afraid of the risk associated with Manny being Manny and a huge contract.

ill take manny being manny

if he hits this: .314/.411/.593

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

I will too

If he’s hitting .314/.411/.593 behind Hamilton, Manny could wear a dress around D-FW for all I care.

Is there something wrong with that otherwise?

No it isn't

A good chunk of the original $45MM offer was deferred with no interest accruing. Assuming Manny doesn’t opt out of the 2nd year, he gets all $45MM in the two years unlike the Dodgers original proposal.

Boras sort of – sort of – saved his ass over the whole opt out thing (actually, a don’t-exercise-the-option-clause thing). Still, Boras had Manny convinced he was getting a 5 or 6 year deal which was dumb even if you don’t consider the economy.

Tim Brown

on Yahoo Sports says some money is deferred. He gave no details and I do not know his source for that statement.

i read its like 5$mil for a long time

vs 10$ in orig offer

I read

it’s 5 million for a bunch of years if he declines the player option for the 2nd year, 10 million for a bunch of years if he accepts the player option in 2010. That could be backwards but I think it’s right.

Still

I doubt there were many teams out there offering the same type of money that the Dodgers gave him.

Thank God!

I was not looking forward to having to pull those huge letters up that damn hill and change that sign back from MANNYWOOD to HOLLYWOOD again…that’s a LOT of work. Those letters are soooo HEAVY.

Have any Ranger pitchers gone on the D L today? No? O K I'll check back in 10 minutes.
