Cowlishaw on Blalock-
I missed this column this morning (probably because it is in the paper that doesn't cover the Rangers any more), with Tim Cowlishaw writing about Hank Blalock's attempt to put up the type of numbers he has the last two seasons for a full year while staying healthy.
Worth checking out...

2004
Konerko was 28 in 2004. Blalock posted career highs in HR and RBI in 2004 (32/110). MLB didn’t really wake up to steroid testing until after the 2004 season. Not sure that I would bet on a breakout season for Blalock (even though he can be very productive if healthy).

caution... merger ahead
How long before they merge.
The Morning News has a circulation of about 350,000 and the Star Telegram has just over 200,000. The Star Telegram will have to shut down or become an edition of its rival. Putting them together would save tens of millions of dollars a year.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Then we'll have
the DFW Morning Star Telegram News with umpteen terrible columnists and no beat reporters covering any team except the Cowboys. I’d like to see Galloway forced by the merger to accept covering dog shows and flea markets or something.

what would it take for Blalock to enter into the team's plans beyond 2009?
If he stays healthy, produces above average offense, and is willing to accept a slightly team-friendly contract, would that place him in the Rangers plans going forward? Or is it just cut and dry that no matter what happens this season, it will be his last in a Ranger uni?
Doctor please. Some more of these.
Two trades
We would have to trade both Max Ramirez and either Chris Davis or Justin Smoak this seaosn for Blalock to be considered for the future no matter how good he does this year

Agreed.
If this occurs
he stays healthy, produces above average offense, and is willing to accept a slightly team-friendly contract
I think they trade him anyway, using his numbers as a chance to add another decent prospect. i doubt they trade Ramirez and Smoak/Davis.
Blalock
Will need to be hitting like one of the top 15 bats in the league and we’ll need to see a trade of MaxRam or Smoak or either of those 2 struggling next season. Even then, I can’t imagine the team giving Blalock anything more than an extra couple of years guaranteed.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

The best thing about Blalock...
is he’s not Eric Chavez.
Will this guy ever be able to stay on the field again?
