swisher rules!
this is where people start saying the rangers should trade for him to be our 8th inning guy

He knows what he's doing out there.
That’s a baseball player.
Give me Sheets or give me Offseason Blues Part III.

Wow.
You know, I can’t imagine being a hitter facing Swisher.
And if the Rangers brought a fielder in every time they were down by 10 runs, Omar Vizquel would have more innings than Warner Madrigal

I swear
Swisher is one of those guys that would make me want to root for a team less. He just always seemed sorta scummy. I know this has nothing to do with the topic.
What do voluntary mean?
by JKolar on Apr 14, 2009 9:38 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
for some reason
i have always liked the guy. he seems like the sort of guy who you hate when he’s against you, but you’d quickly like having him on your team.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

same here
I think most of our baseball opinions are eerily similar.
Doctor please. Some more of these.

yeah I've noticed that too.

Swisher
Same her. I like him.
Also. If everyone pitched as quickly as he does? The pacing of the MLB would be improved.

OBP machine
And I’m too lazy to look it up, but the YES announcers said he led the league in P/PA last season. Gotta love guys like that.

That is why you hate him!
Because he is not on your team!!

I'd like to see Hamilton pitch, probably not the best idea but I bet he could light up the radar gun.

Well he did pitch in HS, I believe.

Little League
The other parents and coaches wanted him moved to the next level because they were afraid he would hurt another kid, because he threw very hard.
by awillis111 on Apr 14, 2009 10:13 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
He pitched in HS
I have a buddy that faced him his sr yr in the playoffs in NC. Said he was hitting 96 pretty regularly.
by Michael Cave on Apr 14, 2009 10:17 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
remember Pudge used to alwasy want to pitch?
I wonder if his arm is still good enough to. He can take a year off, learn to pitch, and come back as an old bullpen guy.
by JBImaknee on Apr 14, 2009 9:42 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
We should've signed him as a reliever
and let him end his career as a Ranger
by TRanger on Apr 14, 2009 3:11 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
it's funny
i made the joke in the GDT that he probably pitched faster than Guardardo, and in reality, he really did look a lot like Eddie out there. Easy delivery, pitched to contact, everything.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

hey if Jose Canseco can do it...
Josh Hamilton puts his pants on one leg at a time just like you but once he gets his pants on he hits baseballs 420 feet.

If the pitching and defense keep going the way they're going, everyone should be able to pitch!
I think they should ditch the red uniforms for clown costumes, and become the Globe Trotters of baseball. At least make it fun for the kids….
They could create a tradition in the 7th inning where the first pitch of each at bat they use water balloons….or whiffle balls! Instead of a dot race they could have an elephant race or midgets in clown cars!!!! Can you imagine! Washington runs out onto the field to argue a call….dressed like a clown! To end the argument he slams a pie into the umps face…all while circus music plays in the background!!

Jeez, only 12,000 there last night. I think the circus draws better than that.

Forgive me for asking
But…who is Nick Swisher?
She say she are the manager.
by rockin_rangers on Apr 14, 2009 9:50 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
You've obviously never read Moneyball
He was Billy Beane’s first draft pick in the 2002 draft, was a productive hitter for A’s before getting traded to the ChiSox last year (in the deal that netted Oakland Gio Gonzalez), who flipped him to the Yanks this winter.
Keith Law: (1:45 PM ET ) I think Michael Young should shut his mouth and move to third base.

If this person doesn't know Nick Swisher
I’m pretty sure they don’t know Gio Gonzalez.

a guy with an era of 0.00
and a whip lower than vicente padilla, matt harrison, scott feldman, kris benson, warner madrigal, and josh rupe.
a better k/bb ratio than matt harrison, warner madrigal and josh rupe
has hit more homers this season than every ranger but nelson cruz (they are tied)
more rbi than any ranger
and an ops+ of 320

It's annoying...
how the commentators were irritated by Nick Swisher having a good time.
just because they were down 15-5.
its only what, the 7th game of the season…
chill.
by downsetgo on Apr 14, 2009 11:04 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
no joke.
i can’t believe they were getting all righteous about him wanting to keep the ball. it’s a position player getting a ML strikeout down 10 runs. did you want him to be somber about the whole thing?

I’m sick of looking at this front and center on LSB’s landing page.

I say Teabag
Has a big-time arm, understands pitching, and we wouldn’t have to watch him bat anymore.
by bioaggie on Apr 14, 2009 12:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Gotta be Josh
He was a top-10 pitching prospect coming out of high school. Lefty who could throw in the mid-90s. Being the #1 overall prospect as a positional player makes that less important though.

Boggs
Has that easy moving stocky frame that could be deceptive given his very strong arm. He might even have that “I got you chump” stare.

It always makes me nervous...
when I see a non pitcher throwing like that. Remember when Canseco blew out his arm doing that?

did that happen?
don’t remember that

Blows out arm while pitching in mop-up situation (1993)
This dubious relief appearance would end Canseco’s 1993 season with Texas prematurely.
Summary: Just three days after his blooper extraordinaire, Canseco lobbied Rangers manager Kevin Kennedy to let him pitch in the eighth inning of a blowout loss in Boston. The result? One inning pitched, two hits, three walks, three earned runs – and ultimately, Tommy John surgery.
