Hopefully
it will tell us also how many folks are ignoring individuals, so we can see who is the most ignored poster.
"The idea that the Rangers are going to be a solid contender for a number of years is a fantasy." - Adam J. Morris
No.
I can ignore guys just fine on my own, and I think having certain posts disappear would take away from the continuity of the discussions in the threads, which is a much bigger issue to me than having to skim by Josey’s posts.
The 40 Trumps All!!!
I love you, Marcus Lemon.
"I don’t have any respect for anybody on here. Everyone on here is a fucking asshole who thinks they’re god compared to everyone else." -iorange555.
agree
absent posts with responses makes for confusion
it creates a greater problem trying to figure out the gist if the discussion than it would be to skip/move on

It causes zero problems
if you don’t use the ignore feature.
"The idea that the Rangers are going to be a solid contender for a number of years is a fantasy." - Adam J. Morris
which is why i said "dont care"
i didn’t try to impose my opinion on everyone else just stated said opinion
my point was more why use the ignore feature which i guess goes hand-in-hand with why bother setting it up

Back before LSB 2.0
someone coded an ignore plug-in for Firefox.
It was fairly handy to use from time to time. I personally enjoyed the feature.

agreed
To me this feature would make the comments nearly unreadable in many cases. But then I’d just not not ignore anyone, so I don’t really care too much.
by Royal Swine on Apr 15, 2009 10:49 AM CDT up reply actions
meant..
not the obivious unreadable in that some posts disappear, but unreadable in that the comment threads would be difficult to read with missing posts.

I never realized how hated I was.
That’s the democracy of the blog world at work, though. I can’t complain.

yeah, i just wouldn't ignore anyone either
The "Fire Wash Watch" is on. I say he's gone by April 26th.
Except
zero posts would disappear if you didn’t hit the ignore button.
The beauty of the functionality is that if you don’t use it, you wouldn’t notice any difference.
"The idea that the Rangers are going to be a solid contender for a number of years is a fantasy." - Adam J. Morris
flow
It seems like the flow of the comments threads would be disrupted. I agree that certain commenters are annoying, but I don’t see why it’s a problem just to ignore them on your own. But then, I’m not sure I’ve ever been on a blog with an ignore function, so I’m not really sure what it would be like in practice.
"Was this really necsarry?" - cowpoke/hurler hurley
The only thing you would notice
would be if, say, Ben Morris and Brett Gardner had each other on ignore, there would be no chains of comments between the two.
Or if Josey Wales and anyone else had each other on ignore, there would be no chains of comments between the two.
If only one of the two had the other on ignore, you might see a poster call another poster out, followed by deafening silence.
I don’t see how it would impact much more than that if you didn’t use the feature.
"The idea that the Rangers are going to be a solid contender for a number of years is a fantasy." - Adam J. Morris
Unless of course
you were the person others were ignoring. Then you wouldn’t see a lot of responses to your posts.
"The idea that the Rangers are going to be a solid contender for a number of years is a fantasy." - Adam J. Morris
Maybe
If you could just ignore one string of conversation – for example – on the Josey Animated Movie thread where they debated the gayness of the characters involved. If I could just hit ignore on a particular thread/argument/whatever, I think that may be the only time I’d use it.

Yup
I said yes but the fact is, I like some of the banter between a jackass and another commenter. I’d probably never use the function. No one here is that bad. If I see 60 posts by Josey I just ignore them. But like I mentioned in another post, there can be comedy gold in there sometimes. Gold Jerry!
Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.
Yes
For the people that don’t care – If you don’t care, you don’t need to use the feature.
I think it’s a tool that’s nice to have in case one day you need to use it. It’s not like it would ruin anything.
I'm between yes and meh
on this, though I kind of like the live and let embarrass yourself policy here.

would it be possible
to ignore comment threads that start with an ‘OT’ moniker. That to me is more annoying. A good baseball thread hijacked by celebrity gossip or some such.
Those are VERY easy to navigate around
simply by scrolling down. It’s awfully silly to look for some sort of high tech solution to something that can be solved so easily.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
I guess I don't get it.
When I enter a heavily-commented thread, I usually just z to the bottom, or until I see something interesting.

no
I like making fun of people who deserve it, as opposed to ignoring them.

I wouldn't mind
having an ignore button.
Really though for functionality of this blog I’d much rather have an Un-Rec button than an ignore button.
Excuse me stewardess, I speak Jive.
Yeah,
Recs without an Unrec button is pretty silly.

yeah, i vote for selective ignoring options
I want to read Adam’s comments on the Rangers, and I want to ignore his comments on the Mavs and the fact that other sports have PED issues to so baseball shouldn’t bear the brunt of the criticism.
Greatest Inventions Ever? 1. TiVO, 2. Boobs, 3. Baseball
It does seem odd
That Adam’s nuanced view of the Rangers doesn’t translate to either the Mavs or Cowboys.

i can already think of about 20 different posters I'd like to ignore
this will be fun if it happens

sure, i'm not afraid
after all, it’s only my opinion, so (in no particular order and for various reasons)…

Josey Wales

hiafex
Steve P
hurlerhurley
Clueless
Longhorn

Well that’s who comes to mind right now, but usually there are several guys in the GDTs that make me want to ignore them not listed above.

Not that I care if you ignore me
But what’s so distasteful about me?
by brettgardner on Apr 15, 2009 2:20 PM CDT up reply actions
basically your omnipresence
I feel like if I ignored you, it would trim a good chunk of comments away. And even though other posters have more posts, I feel like there’s not a lot of substance in yours, and maybe others have that same opinion about my own comments.
Regardless, it’s just my opinion. I’m certainly not the judge of what is worthy and what is not…only what is worthy and what is not (to me).
Greatest Inventions Ever? 1. TiVO, 2. Boobs, 3. Baseball

I promise I’ll never involve you in my comments—you won’t miss a thing.

Okay, I have trouble believing you're serious.
I don’t want to get in to an argument about whether or not you do anything wrong. For the sake of the question, let’s assume I like you and think you’re just fine. But you’re not honestly surprised you ruffle a few feathers, are you? I’ve always just assumed you do it on purpose.
That's not the issue, I guess.
I was just curious why someone I have no interaction with would choose to not see anything I post.
Again, I’m fine with that. That’s the beauty of it all—you don’t have to suffer through being face to face with someone you can’t stand.
And not to be a dick, but a guy like willamos2 is so completely irrelevant to my enjoyment of this site that when he says he’s going to ignore me, I’m just a little curious about the reason why, but I couldn’t be bothered to ponder it for more than a fleeting moment.
by brettgardner on Apr 15, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions
i have no interaction with most on my list, fwiw
but that’s because i try to avoid them. Ignoring them would just make it that much easier!

You have both...
of the openly homosexual LSBers on there. Is this a trend?

Umm...
I don’t read the comments
Are people treating LSB like Playboy now and just coming here to look at the pretty pictures?

Yes
I don’t care who posts what. I’m not going to ignore even seeing someone’s posts just because they are trolls or morons. But I don’t see any reason why that shouldn’t be an option for other people. Its been said before here and in other threads, if you don’t use it, it doesn’t affect you at all. So why vote no so other people who want it can’t use it?

This is about where I am.
Though I’d probably put the trolls on ignore just so I’m not tempted to respond anymore.

The "Fire Wash Watch" is on. I say he's gone by April 26th.
iggy buttons are worthless...
It actually makes threads harder to read, as others keep interacting with and referencing the iggied posters, so a great deal of context is compromised.

If Adam were to ignore himself...
…would it cause some kind of internet black hole, sucking in all kinds of smaller sites and then even larger ones like amazon and the wikipedia until they are all crushed into a super massive singularity that will then explode on a new plane of existence and form a new universe?
I think it would.

My brain has an "ignore feature"
Most of the time it works. It will not work on things that ‘grind my gears’, most notably fantasy baseball talk in the midst of actual baseball talk. But that cannot be solved by ignoring people, because many or most of those people also say things about real baseball that I want to read.
In other words, I don’t really give a shit. If trolls aren’t being fed, they will come up with other usernames until that one is broadly ignored, I suspect. But maybe not. Whatever.
"most notably fantasy baseball talk in the midst of actual baseball talk."
Ugh. I hate this, too.
And what I hate even more is that this is the first time I’m in a fantasy league and actually enjoying the process and find myself doing what I hate now and then.
I voted no, but I change my mind
Although the vast majority of people here would miss me and my 23 comments, I would ignore everyone and only have conversations with myself on here. That way this place would mirror my real life

That was
a pretty creative post. Ignoring others to talk to yourself is a step up from having to wonder why no one seems to reply to your comments.

Too many pointless posts
There are so many here that they are not worth reading. I don’t have time to scan these 400+ threads where half the entries add nothing to the discussion. I’d much rather read a post from an articulate troll than the next twenty calling him out.
Some boards let the community rate the posters and then filter out the ones with low ratings.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
my favorite
is slashdot which gives you plenty of ways to self filter.
I do think self filter or self moderation works much better than having an external moderator. I found most “moderated” boards are kind of weak. The moderators either do nothing, and let everything get posted, and there is really no reason to have a moderator, or they are post nazis and filter out even fairly innocuous threads.

I think an ignore button would be nice
But personally I would only use it on the rare cases like HH, steal home and Josey.
I can see how it could be abused by some, but if people want to either abuse it or not use it that’s their problem.
Coach Washington inspires me to be an hero.
I voted yes
Not saying I would use it but i think its an option that needs to be there.
it shouldnt have to be up to moderators to sanitize things for everyone, let people decide for themselves who they want to ignore and who they dont.
Personally i just simply skip over posts i dont have interest in.

How is that censorship?
No one is stopping anyone from posting. No one is stopping anyone from reading it if they want to read it.
