Eyre activated, Madrigal demoted
We knew the move was coming, just not necessarily this soon...
But Willie Eyre has been activated from the disabled list, with Warner Madrigal getting optioned to AAA.
Eyre, I suspect, will immediately go in the mix with Jason Jennings as far as a 7th/8th inning righty reliever.

Oh Boy
I’ve got nothing else to say. Probably not a real solution. If the bullpen is still like this by Labor Day, I say we just clean house. Get rid of all the driftwood and bring up Diamond, Bannister, Moscosco, and roll with this pen: Francisco, Wilson, Jennings/Guardado, Diamond, Bannister, Moscosco, Nippert/Eyre.
If the bullpen is still like this on Labor Day....
The team will like 50-100, at best.

Who in the bullpen
would you really want to keep? Francisco, Wilson? Jennings maybe, but the whole “he can’t pitch two games in a row” is pretty limiting.

Now... if it's still like this on Memorial Day...
I still think we have issues.

Guardado has no place in our pen
he is done.
The "Fire Wash Watch" is on. I say he's gone by April 26th.
Such a huge boost
until, of course, Eyre inevitably sucks hard, like he did last year.

He didn't pitch last year.

Well, pick any year of his major league career through age 30.
Oh wait, there are only 2. And they both sucked.
I’d rather have madrigal. Granted maybe madrigal can still develop a bit in AAA.
the preceding post was a great success.
You've seemed a bit more cynical than usual
Is this season already getting to you?

saying that madrigal will be better than eyre isn't really cynical

Indeed
This simple roster move guarantees at least an AL Pennant, if on a World Series title.

Like I said...
…if he can post a mid-4 ERA out of the pen, like he did in 2007, he’s a useful stopgap.
by Adam J. Morris on Apr 15, 2009 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions
ignoring any development
do you think eyre will be significantly better than madrigal would have been from this day forward, ignoring his bad couple of outings so far?
the preceding post was a great success.
I dunno
I don’t think Madrigal should be in a major league bullpen, though.
I don’t expect Eyre to be Almanzar v. 2004. I’m just hoping he can not be a gascan.

Funny that you
are using era to judge a RP. In 2008 Rupe allowed a run (either an IR or one of his own) in 61% of his appearances. In 2007 Eyre’s was 56%. Eyre’s role was similar to that of Rupe last year.
I don’t think there is much of a difference between the two. Eyre has options and maybe he gets off to a better start than Rupe.
BTW, last year Madrigal’s was 45%. (I admit there is a little bit of an apples/oranges comparison here.)

disgusting.
not Eyre, or your comment, but the state of this team – being happy with a 4.50 ERA bullpen addition…

I justed turned on MLB radio and the Boston guy just said the "N- H-----" word
Is he trying to ruin it?
And it would be a perfect game without litterally maybe the worst error I've ever seen.
Lowell just failed at picking down a soft ground ball on a play at first he could have triple clutched.
Also, Lowell has thrown 67 pitches. 59 for strikes.
lol

As noted in the other thread
When you’re third baseman and first baseman are occupying your 8 and 9 holes in the lineup, you have issues.
What an awful lineup he’s facing.
or a great lineup
in his case.

Yeah, this might be the worst lineup the A's field all year.
I’m stupified by the suck of their bench. And the fact that it’s all playing at once.
