More than anything
I hope Eyre continues to not suck.

The thing is, with merely "not suck" we'd be playing like a full win better per 8 than we are right now.
That’s significant. Not suck might take us a long way.
I get your point
Just sayin that Eyre hasn’t contributed to our bullpen struggles, yet :). So he’s played awesome
he hasn't really helped, either...other than providing innings
let’s see him in a close game. no, two or three close games. then I’ll be ready to make a judgment call, and maybe be able to understand why this organization is fascinated by him. then again, if the guy gets out and throws strikes, which is what everybody says, I love him already.

Anyone worried about Salty?
0-5 tonight
What about Blalock? Will AJ start taking some of his ABs?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Salty should've had a hit in his first AB tonight
Hit a screamer up the middle that Hendrickson stuck out his glove and caught. And he had a hit that started the 10th inning rally last night, so I’m not really worried. Just disappointed that he didn’t join in the bash-fest.
Coach Washington inspires me to be an hero.
not sure why you keep hanging your hat on one single from last night

If you take the worst pitching staff in baseball, then add Kris Benson and Jason Jennings, what do you have???
surprise!!! You have the worst pitching staff in baseball, that's what.
especially when
he had a 1.429 OPS after 2 games.
He still has a higher OPS than Teagarden though.
"The idea that the Rangers are going to be a solid contender for a number of years is a fantasy." - Adam J. Morris
He's still hitting the ball well
When you do that, things work themselves out. He’s hitting hard line drives and just happens to be hitting them towards fielders. As long as he keeps hitting the ball the same way, he’s going to bust out of this slump quickly.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Probing a topic I may regret. . .
. . . can’t you have substantiated opinions without numbers? As in, when I ask for your reasoning, I’m not necessarily asking for stats.
Also, I think most people separate favorite players from best players, as well. Kinsler isn’t my favorite because of his numbers. The numbers just happen to bear out that he is also awesome.
I think my opinions are substantiated
But I can’t explain why I’m not enamored with FF. I’m just not. I like him, sure. And I cheer for him as much as I do any of the other guys on the team. I just won’t be buying a Francisco player tee anytime soon.

Just giving an example of an arbitrary reason to like a player. My point is liking a player isn’t a very good basis for wanting to see them play. And as for being a fan shouldn’t a fan want to see the players who put the team in the best position to win play?

are you serious?
(Wife) "So what do you want to watch on the T.V.? UFC or porn?"
(Husband) "Hmm... well, porn, I guess."
Yes
They were talking about who they could bring in in the bullpen and said they can’t use Oliver because he pitched last night and is starting on Saturday.
I figured anyone who’s been a Rangers fan for more than five years or so would get some laughs out of that one. I’ll have to be sure to watch that game.

Oh, wait... you were asling LSJ if he's serious, not me... my bad
I’m hoping by “depth,” he means how the Angels have always had several guys ready to step in and pitch 3.5 ERA ball, like last year.
Also, by "laughs"...
I mean the laughs would be because it’s Darren Oliver starting, not because of why he would be or anything. We spent a lot of time watching him suck for the Rangers.

GDT
Hey guys, I was busy eating some crawfish and drinking a beverage or two during the game, and I usually check the GDT on night games when I am bored at work, but I had to look at this tonight! I loved how everyone was bitching about the lineup pre-game, as I was, then the roof blew off the place. Had no idea what we were in for. I loved the comments on the Nellie GS and the Kins cycle. Poor Marlon Byrd had a career game and came in third for the game ball… Anyways, you guys were funny as hell tonight, loved the threads… MLB network respecting the HELL out of the Rangers BTW. Even ESPNews giving props. If anyone has calendars left, I would love one… hollar at a playa when you see him in the street!
Wow...I'm still not over this game
If there is such a thing as a baseball orgasm, I think I had one tonight.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

I feel like this is a good place for me to reiterate...
…the fact that I said Ian Kinsler would win the MVP award in the AL before this season started.
Good job helping me out tonight, MVP.

Been distracted, so I'm tragically late to the post game party.
But I’m over the rage from the last five games. Which is completely irrational, but whatever.
Kinsler is so awesome. Give him some health and he might be the best player in the American League.
That sounds odd to say
But I can’t call it crazy.

yeah
it may not last long…and it’s certainly not enough to make up for losing 5 in a row…but that retribution last night was just enough to keep me from going 100% aboard the Mavs playoff attention spree. It’s more like 90% Mavs, 10% Rangers now.

At least we aren't the only team to walk in runs
Brian Wilson for San Francisco just walked James Loney with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth… Manny scores, Dodgers win 5-4.
Totally not ready for The Show
That's not hail you see in Frisco....that just Justin Smoak's Home Runs coming back into orbit....
i'm 20 and i'm just a junior in college, hoping to get a summer internship...
he has a freakin .888 OPS…man i’m a failure in life…
You probably aren't Venezuelan either.
I think you know what must be done.

Doncha love how fast stat lines can change in the first month of the season?
Coach Washington inspires me to be an hero.
Which is why
I almost raised the point today that Elvis is looking mighty shakey at the plate.
Glad I held off. heh
my starting IF for my fantasy team
prior to Game 1. Early sample size, yes…but he actually looks VERY good at the plate so far.

It's okay, Adam...
Erik Thompson is still with us in our hearts.
And, spectrally, in this case.

More Ian Kinsler awesomeness pointed out to me by a friend:
First player in 2009 to be worth a full win above replacement (via FanGraphs, I think).
Sweet.
Yup. On a 20 WAR pace!
Clearly there’s no reason he can’t keep that up. Ian’s on his way to the best season in Major League history.
Just watch.
Great game for Byrd
June 3, 1932
Tony Lazzeri went 5-6. He also hit for the cycle, stole a base, and hit a ninth inning grand slam.
But the game is remembered as Lou Gehrig’s four home run game.
Final Yankees 20 A’s 13
A few early season thoughts...
- I really like what I’ve seen from Millwood and McCarthy.
- Ian just might finish in the top 3 in the AL MVP race.
- Blalock, Murphy, and Salty are struggling out of the gate. Blalock will be fine if he stays
healthy. Murphy is what he is (a 4th OFer). But I’m worried about Salty.
- Andrus has done better than I expected at the plate.
- Jones may just be able to turn it around this year.
- Davis may be taking a lot of time off against lefties.
- Pitchers have adjusted to Hamilton. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts.

Hamilton
Is just swinging at everything. Literally. He’s swung at 98% of everything in the strike zone so far.
Somebody really needs to take him aside and teach him to take a pitch, ‘cause he’s getting worse than Murphy at plate discipline.
Coach Washington inspires me to be an hero.
Yeah...
but he swung at everything last year too. Especially the first pitch. Difference is now he is getting offspeed pitches away and out of the zone on the first pitch instead of pitchers trying to get ahead with fastballs like they did last year with him. The league has seen that he swings at the first pitch and pitchers have adjusted.
He needs to make his own adjustment and start taking that first pitch so he’s ahead in the count and then pitchers have to come at him with something hittable in the zone.
