Rangers on TV in Austin?

TimeWarner cable in Austin used to  the Rangers on channel 77 when the main FSN channel was showing an Astros game. I noticed that there hadn't been any games on 77 yet this year, so I called them up tonight and the rep said they weren't going to be broadcasting any of the alternate feeds from FSN any more because they couldn't renew the contract.

Ugh.

So my immediate thought is to call DirecTV and ask them... the rep there said FSN is FSN and if they're showing the Astros that's all you get.

Since Austin is in the Rangers local blackout area, we can't get them on MLB.TV or Extra Innings -- does anyone know how I can watch anything other than the over the air games on KEYE? Hopefully someone has an answer other than UVerse or Grande since I can't get either of them in my area.

i even switched over recently to time warner digital because they told me they were showing it. (I’m in San Marcos), but so far nothing. It’s depressing…

I was at Texas State for 5 years

and hardly ever missed a Ranger game…it was always on 77. Man that freakin’ blows man, I would be super pissed.

AT&T Uverse

I only get the Rangers on the FSD feed despite my ‘Sports Package’ on all the Fox Sports Channels. All the other ones are blacked out once actual games come on.

Pissed me off to NO end on opening day when I thought I was going to get the CLE feed on FSO until the time that the game started to air and it was blacked out.

directv

that doesn’t seem right, you should get astros AND rangers games…

you will get an alterante fox sports channel…

this is what i do...i guarantee.

rep was possibly ignorant

I went to the FSN website and checked listings there for my zipcode. For DirecTV, they list both Astros and Rangers games on at the same time on different channels. Looks like the rep I talked to didn’t have the right info (or didn’t bother trying to find it).

by Strekos on Apr 18, 2009 9:16 AM CDT up reply actions

yeah

I can just about guarantee you DirecTV gets the games for both teams…they always do

by Horns130 on Apr 18, 2009 7:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes, this sux.

And Grande’s not in my neighborhood either. Been listening on Gameday Audio every night. Time Warner Sux and FSN Sux. As soon as Grande becomes available I’ll be there with bells on.

by jcAustin on Apr 18, 2009 12:27 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah I used to watch on that channel as well for Ranger games

and now it’s gone. Grande has the alternate feed? Well hell… I just moved into an apartment last month that comes with free TWC..so I’m stuck with that. heh.

by Mike E on Apr 18, 2009 7:18 AM CDT reply actions

Same boat for me

I get free TWC here…so im missing so many damn games

i e-mailed TWC threatening to leave but obviously it is an empty threat

fuck twc

I'm in San Antonio

I am in the same boat, except that when I call/email customer service they just keep switching me to other ‘representatives’ who also have no clue if/when the contract will be renewed. No alternate channel and blacked out mlbtv means I only get to watch when the Astros play at a different time. Even the over the air games don’t air here, they show reruns of CW shows instead.

In my neighborhood, there is no Grande, no Uverse. It’s either TWC or satellite, and it seems silly for the roommate to pay for TWC (it’s included in the rent) and then for me to pay separately for satellite. I don’t even know if we can actually do that. So I guess I am gonna buy Gameday Audio and stew about it.

another upset TWC subscriber

I had been noticing the same thing about no games on 77 in Austin. So why do the Astros games take precedence over our Rangers? They are about the same distance away. I too can’t get Grande or U-verse where I live.

Directv in Austin

Haven’t missed a game yet this year. Even when they’re on 27, I get them on the alt FSN feed.

I recommend Directv to any and all Ranger fans in Austin.

Fox Sports has

added 50 more games than last year. I have the same problem. Do not blame fox or the rangers. It is your cable provider. Fox asked all providers to help foot the bill for those extra games. some have and some havent. Suddenlink I know for sure is one of them. I will get pregame and postgame but stuck with poker during the game. Call your programming service and complain. Fox is trying to get people to send e-mails to them so they can forward to all the cable providers.

by Unclejim on Apr 18, 2009 11:58 AM CDT reply actions

Where do

you send these emails to Fox for forwarding? I will HAPPILY do it. I am damn tired of TWC lessening service and raising prices. They recently announced plans to cap our internet here in San Antonio to 100GB/month for $75!!!! I flipped the fuck out and so did the whole city apparently, so they “put it on hold.”

Now not having the Rangers on alternate channels is just the last straw for me. Their HD service sucks, I am constantly rebooting my box and now this. If I knew where to send emails to Fox I would do it. Cus sending emails to TWC here just gets a canned response from someone named “Cloud.” Fuckity fuck fuck fuck!!!!

I don't believe I've ever heard one good thing about TWC.

Lack of options must keep them in business.

My next appartment

will be UVerse equipped. I promise. I’m so tired of TWC and their shoddy HD and crappy internet.

everyone should send an e-mail. we should all get free tickets to the game.

by Unclejim on Apr 18, 2009 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks

I will definitely be writing to them, because I am sick, sick SICK of this crap. And to boot, I get home tonight to find NBC-HD pixelating. Why do I pay $10 extra per month for an HD box when half the HD channels don’t work properly? ARGHHHHH!

DirecTv in Austin is the way to go

Couple points

*DirecTv in Austin will be showing, barring any techincal difficulties, 150 rangers games this year. The 12 missing are road games later in the season.

*You will get almost all HD games, even if they are on KDFI or My27…

*Email Jamey because he said they are doing a signup special, check it out.

*I reccomend getting the Choice + DVR and HD package, about 60 bucks a month for a year. Free eqiupment and installation.

This is our year.

I think you can

Unless it’s a money issue I believe there’s a law about it. If you live in an apartment they have the right to a dish as long as it doesn’t fuck anything else up. And you have to face the right way or something.

getting it installed

Have a DirecTV installer coming out Saturday. Thanks to everyone who corrected the bad info I originally got from their sales rep.

KEYE

I, too, have been depressed so far this season due to TWC’s spotty Rangers coverage. Much to my surprise, I noticed that the game tonight is on the KEYE2 channel (Ch. 1532), even though the digital guide didn’t list the game as being on.

So that was nice. I just hope that enough of those games come on to hold me over until TWC gets the Ch. 77 thing figured out again (if ever).

TW

I’ve emailed these @$$holes twice and they just give me the runaround. I can only assume that Fox wanted some money and TW immediately backed down, just like they did with KEYE 42 and with the NFL Network. It’s interesting how they are always the company in the middle of these kind of controversies. I care nothing at all about the freaking Astros and this has pretty much ruined my baseball season. There is no way to watch the Rangers on MLB extra innings or live online because we are supposedly in their market and they blackout games. I would still encourage everyone to email Time Warner as many times as possible about this.
