Game 11 game day thread

Kansas City Royals at Texas Rangers, Apr 18, 2009 7:05 PM CDT

Oh, yeah, there's a game today...not that anyone is that interested at this point...

Hopefully, Holland doesn't make his debut tonight.

Go Rangers...

Me, too.

Though I don’t know why. I’ll be pretty amazed if we win, and I’ll be pretty amazed if I stay interest when we’re losing.

Screw it...

Millwood has had a couple good outings so far this year. I hope he gets shelled.

If Holland is going to be here I want to see him pitch tonight.

Hello Win Column

by LSJ on Apr 18, 2009 6:42 PM CDT up reply actions

you know its not really that cruz is batting 6th

its that he said he would be 4th all offseason.. then he mashed in ST, then he mashed to start the year.. meanwhile blalock has sucked and is above cruz even against lefties. and cruz is moved down? it just.. doesn’t make sense.

the preceding post was a great success.

Concur...

If he was told he was going to hit cleanup what has he done to lose that spot or what has Hank done so far to put himself in that spot?

It makes little sense to me as well.

Ron Washington's whole stint with this team has been full of crap like that.

He’s supposed to be a defense-first guy, the team has terrible defense (though it should improve this year just because of the upgrades at SS and RF), and there are so many times that he’s just done in-game things that make no sense.
I have a strong memory of watching a game early last year where he tried to bunt over Jason Botts with Hank Blalock, or some other slow player. It was the easiest most pitiful double play i have ever seen.
I don’t think a manager really has a huge impact unless he’s just really terrible at in-game decisions. And that is Ron Washington.

cruz

he’s just not ready for that high pressure of a line up spot. you need a veteran there.

I went and saw a movie last Friday at noon and I was so tempted to walk up to the counter and “say one for Hannah Montana” just to see how long someone would follow me around the theater.

They don’t check to see if you are going into the right theater after you buy your ticket so I could have still gone and seen what I saw anyway (Adventureland by the way is pretty good). Still think I should have done it, and worn a long black trench coat to boot.

a crowd of 15K and under is just embarassing. I get the “if they don’t win, then eff them” attitude, but a big crowd is good for the team.

Pitch F/X on Millwood this inning.

None of Teahan’s pitches were even close to the zone. But at least two, and probably all four, pitches against Butler were strikes.

Umpire fail.

And the called strikes in that last PA were at least as borderline ahs the Butler PA. WTF?!

True story...

I was in the Rockwall Costco two nights ago. I was signing up when this attractive brunette came alongside to return an item. She told the clerk she was Scott Feldman’s ex-girlfriend. Not bad, either.

Ugh

Milwood better pitch the game of his life, cause I don’t think he’s going to get any run support tonight

don't be ridiculous

the bunt wasn’t the reason they didn’t score

by Dirk Diggler on Apr 18, 2009 7:52 PM CDT up reply actions

He didn't say it was.

He said it didn’t work. And he was right.

by Snark on Apr 18, 2009 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions

No he's not right

the idea of the bunt is to give your best hitters a chance to hit at least a sac fly. The bunt worked. The hitters after the bunt are the ones who failed.

The idea of the game is obviously to score runs, not advance runners

or give your best hitters chances to hit sacrifice flies. If the bunt doesn’t help you score, it didn’t accomplish it’s aim. It was a failed tactic.

I know it was Andrus

But giving Grienke extra outs doesn’t exactly help our cause…

what are the odds andrus gets a hit v greinke righ there, really?

there was at least a chance that kinsler got the sac fly.

i don’t know that i would have called for it but i dont think it had much of an impact either wya.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on Apr 18, 2009 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Probably not

But Grink basically only had to get 2 outs that inning instead of 3.

Who knows?

The kid’s never faced Greinke, and vice-versa; maybe Greinke gives him a pitch to hit. I’d rather see him get the chance than lose an out getting the runner from second to third.

by Snark on Apr 18, 2009 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions

hes faced greinke

in spring training.

I can't really argue with that bunt

Obviously, it didn’t work, but I don’t like the chances of Andrus scoring Kinsler home right there. And since we saw what Kinsler and Young did, I don’t think its anything to complain about.

Apparently nothing of note happened in Rangers land today.
