Tuesday a.m. things
Not much new out there this morning after the off day. Richard Durrett has a couple of blog notes up, one taking a look at Frank Francisco, one profiling today's opponent, the Blue Jays.
Buster Olney has some quotes from Zack Greinke's start against the Rangers on Saturday and suggests that he could win the Cy Young this season.
And yesterday I took a look at a few prospects' starts after the first full week.

If you take the worst pitching staff in baseball, then add Kris Benson and Jason Jennings, what do you have???
surprise!!! You have the worst pitching staff in baseball, that's what.

He’s decided that he’ll stay away for a full 25 hours before the next game, in addition to not watching the game itself.
At this point, all measures must be considered.

The problem with this sort of thing is that when you get to talk to people that know, they usually don’t want you tell everybody.

well it especially sucks
that our fastball hitters can’t catch up to fastballs at the moment
Ceterum censeo Cat esse delendam - Cahill the Elder
yeah...
That actually may be the most frustrating thing about this season. i knew going in the bullpen would be a disaster, that our starting rotation would be mediocre, and that certain hitters would strike out on giant curve balls.
Watching pitchers throw heat past Hamilton and Davis hurts though. That isn’t supposed to happen
that has been frustrating
they’ve looked confused at the plate

Greinke Is The King of Filth
If he pitched in Boston or New York you can bet each Sports Center on the days he pitched would start with some kind of special graphic just for him followed by Gammons et al slobbering all over him.
After all he’s been through, it’s good to see him on his game. He’s a lot of fun to watch…just not so much when he’s owning the Rangers.

Dimitri Martin will play Paul DePodesta in ‘Moneyball’, and Brad Pitt is officially playing Billy Beane.
Its like many movies out there today
It has the potential to be a very good story and pretty cool to see for statheads, but Hollywood is going to crap all over the book and end up making one of the worst baseball movies ever.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I think if they play up the Bean/Jeremy Brown love angle it could work...
otherwise the movie will blow dead skunks.
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
I don't see how this ends up being a good movie.
The only way is if it avoids being a Billy Beane knob-polisher and actually delves into the bigger issues at play and how Beane dealt with them.
My guess is it won’t.
Doing this movie seems like a lose-lose, cause the subject matter is so narrow that to make the movie realistic and something that would appeal to the rabid fans it’s ostensibly aimed at, you’d have to make choices creatively that would cause you to all but totally eschew the mass market audience, something you just know they aren’t going to do if they’re paying Pitt to star in it… and conversly I have a feeling that no matter how broad they try to make this film’s appeal, the public at large is going to greet it with one big collective yawn.

I hear the sex scenes with Billy Beane and Jeremy Brown are hot stuff.

the better choice is now Jonah Hill.

Any sex scenes involving Lord Beaneleroy will be with the only person he ever loved.
Torrid masturbation scenes the likes of which would make Million Dollar Baby seem undeserving of its well-deserved multiple Oscars.

i may be the only one
but i am very anxious to see how this turns out. it could go in so many directions at this point. the material is old now and what was polarizing and provacative is now either generally accepted or disproven, and many of the actual players have flamed out, so they will be tempted to add stuff for cinematic effect. I have no idea how they could make a movie out of this….
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
The question is...
Who plays Warsh? We just had a discussion about this at law school, and the three of us talking about it unanimously agreed on Samuel L. Jackson, with the hope that he says, “I’m getting tired of these mother effing errors on this mother effing team.”

Sigh...
I remember back when Eddie was actually funny.
Delirious
Raw
Coming to America
Beverly Hills Cop
48 Hours
Trading Places
Even Nutty Professor and Life were pretty good.
Too many damn kids movie roles like Pluto Nash. And now I see that he is doing a Beverly Hills Cop IV that is going to come out next year. Oh Eddie…

Life was good
Not that funny, but I thought it was an enjoyable movie. The next Beverly Hills Cop is supposed to be much better than the third one. Doubtful, but it could be good if he goes back to how he made the first 2.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
So help me...
if it comes out and is rated PG-13 I’m done with Eddie.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Delirious is funny
And I like Coming to America and Harlem Nights had some funny moments, but I think the guy is vastly overrated.
I’d say his and Jim Carrey’s careers have followed similar tracks—extremely talented guys who stood out amongst mostly unfunny casts on popular sketch shows, made a handful of classics (Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber), and have coasted the rest of their careers. They both have the “dramatic” side to them, as well.
Even in that comparison, I think Carrey is a lot funnier than Murphy.

humber cleared waivers
another reliever lost (although I’m not broken up about it).
Shell on the other hand…

No news yet...
Steven Shell-R- Nationals Apr. 19 – 9:43 pm et
Nationals designated RHP Steven Shell for assignment.
Shell actually pitched a scoreless inning today, but he’s another one of the fall guys after the Nats’ terrible start. Expect some team to pluck him off waivers. He has a 2.45 ERA in 55 innings since debuting last season.

Was just listening to 1310
And Sturm was talking about Washington and such. What bothered me was that Sturm put 100% of this team’s woes on the bullpen and almost refused to acknowledge that there have been defensive and baserunning errors that have been absolutely critical in some of the losses. I like Sturm, but come on, pal.
The question is
how do our defensive and baserunning issues stack up against other teams? I know how our bullpen stacks up against other teams, and its pretty rotgut.

but they drive me nuts when it come to Rangers talk. But then again, listening to Scruggs and Salisbury talk Rangers is like listening to my mom talk Rangers…….. I just quickly say……..ssshhhh.
Ian Kinsler..... yea, he's good at baseball.
I think all of 1310 is the blind leading the blind when it comes to baseball
…but I think Sturm is the best of all of them. That said, he makes some ridiculous points. The baserunning and defense don’t factor in to the 5-7 record? Seems silly.
Sturm sucks
He used to be good, but he just doesn’t seem to put any thought into his baseball opinions anymore.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
The thing that's frustrating to me about Sturm...
….is that he seems to put thought into his baseball opinions, just not enough thought. It’s like he stops short as soon as he finds some nugget that will support his bias about the team or JD or whatever.
Exactly
He has an opinion and then goes out and finds whatever supports it.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Sturm probably takes a good look at the standings,
the manager that JD hired and then extended, looks at all those bad trades, duly notes that attendance is waaaaaaaaay down since October ’05 and then wonders when the bleep JD is going to do something that helps the major league team.
Your problem with Sturm is that he’s not a mindless cheerleader who has a “hunch” 2009 is going to be the year the Rangers contend.
