Happy birthday, David Clyde
Happy birthday to former Ranger pitcher David Clyde, who turns 54 today.
I'm pretty sure you folks know his story.

Is it true
he needs just a month of service, even as a minor league coach under the big club’s employ, to qualify for $3000/month pension?
If so, I sure wish the Rangers would make it happen. Even though current ownership had nothing to do with rushing him, it would be nice. After all, he did possibly save the franchise being in Arlington.

Not sure if it is true
But if it is I agree, give him a job, Lord knows this franchise helped screw up his life.
Heck, he can be interim manager if they fire Wash, since there is no clear cut choice.

not sure if the franchise screwed up his life
Theres a good chance if they brought him up in the minors, he never would have made the majors because TINSTAAPP

The first time I really ever heard the Clyde story was in...
the classic film Talent for the Game starring a fresh faced Edward James Olmos.

Was Eddie J. Olmos
really ever “fresh faced”?

I listened to his debut
live on the radio when I was a kid. I think it was the first-ever sellout for the Rangers at Arlington Stadium.

David Clyde Debut
I actually attended that game. It was pretty exciting since I had been used to going to the game with only a few thousand others in the stands. He threw a pitch that looked good to us fans but the umpire called it a ball. We all booed the umpire, but Clyde later said he thought we were booing him. Poor guy, as if he wasn’t feeling enough pressure already.
As a side note, I later went out with his then ex wife while in college at UTA. Not sure why I am still proud of that bit of trivia…

That was my first game too.
