AJM's dream come true, AKA Luis Mendoza promoted
Per Grant:
"Anyway, RHP Willie Eyre, as expected, was placed on the DL after aggravating his groin strain. RHP Luis Mendoza has been promoted after going 2-0 with 10.1 scoreless innings at Triple-A Oklahoma. Mendoza walked six, but struck out 13. PCL opponents have hit .108 against him. He hasn’t pitched since last Sunday, so he’d be available for long relief tonight.
Just to recap your Rangers bullpen, it now looks like this: RHP Frank Francisco (closer), RHP Jason Jennings, LHP C.J. Wilson, LHP Eddie Guardado, RHP Luis Mendoza, LHP Derek Holland, RHP Darren O’Day."

Our bullpen is becoming more intriguing by the day.

Good move
Hopefully Luis has his sinker working. I think he can make a nice bullpen piece for us.
Now if we can only demote Murph and call up Boggs for a couple weeks my predicition from last night will be right on
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

is this Mendoza's last shot?
The "Fire Wash Watch" is on. I say he's gone by April 26th.

Yes...
and my guess is after about 3 weeks or so of sucking he will be gone.

Mendoza
As I recall he was pretty sharp in long relief last year, but when he started he got hammered. I say just leave him in long relief and let him do his thing, it’s not like the Rangers aren’t going to need guys who can pitch 3 innings out of the pen.

Taking a look at his last 10 appearances out of the pen last year, he surrendered 14 runs in roughly 11+ innings.
Five of those games, he pitched scoreless baseball.
Two of them he gave up 4 or more runs.

Luis failed hard as a starter
but it’d be a shame to not give him at least one more shot in relief. I’m convinced he can’t be that bad; at least not in a reliever role.
Here’s to a sinker that’ll actually sink this year.

IDK about "failed hard"
he had good and bad starts, but did show signs of dirty stuff

Wasn't he statistically the worst pitcher in the majors last year
As far as those with qualifying innings?

FIP is the only stat I use when talking about Luis Mendoza, sorry.

Ha
I’m just messing with ya.
Most of his best flashes last year came in the bullpen, so I’m holding out some hope that he’ll excel in that role again. I just don’t ever want to see him starting again.

He failed hard as a starter.
tRA+ of 34 in 45 innings as a starter. Had a 148 tRA+ as a reliever, however.

Yeah I should have mentioned the starter part
I remember his bullpen efforts didn’t make me pull my hair out.

It's a fine bullpen move...
He’s on the 40, limit his ML exposure, leave it at that…
Who takes his rotation spot in OKC?

at this point
it should probably be Feliz, Hunter, Hyatt, Mathis and Lizard. I would prefer to keep Ballard and Diamond in the bullpen because that is where they will eventually help our big league club, if they ever do.

Ballard is starting tonight for OKC

i know
they still have Diamond and Ballard in there instead of Hunter and Hyatt, but that doesn’t make much sense to me. Diamond and Ballard could both potentially fill long term roles with this club as a late inning guy and a loogy, respectively, so let them pitch in those roles in OKC to prepare.

In Diamond's case
I think he would beneifit from racking up some innings as a SP in AAA. Ballard I don’ tknow. If the organization looks at him as a loogy, then he needs to be in the pen at OKC.

He was the only even remotely
viable option from the roster guys, at least if you are hoping to get guys out.
