OT: Dallas Cowboys have named new stadium, but it's still a secret
The Dallas Cowboys have decided on a name for the team’s new stadium, but that’s being kept secret for now.
Officials however are willing to concede that they won’t have a corporate naming rights sponsor in time for the June 6 grand opening concert featuring George Strait. A month ago, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said he wouldn’t speculate about whether a naming rights deal would be secured by the stadium’s opening. On Thursday, the uncertainty was gone.
Any ideas/suggestions for the name?
MLB Network had a feature last night about all the empty seats at Yankee Stadium. We should see something similar with the Cowboys this year as they'll try their best not to aggressively discount tickets. We could see our first local blackout in recent memory.

i remember...
back in the late 90’s there were a few games that didn’t sell out. rather than black them out jerrah “bought” the unsold tickets so the game could be broadcast locally several times

Buying the Extra Tickets...
I know some of the Cowboys corporate sponsors have bought unsold tickets and given them to charity to help avoid blackouts, Kroger comes to mind. That said, with only 8 home regular season games, I doubt we have to worry about any blackouts this year.

Kyle O'Campo's delivery scares the buh-jesus out of me, btw.
How can he consistently command his pitches with such a violent jerk in his delivery? The head snap thing he’s going on looks like he’s being made the victim of a particularly gruesome Mortal Komabt fatality.

There is no way in hell we see a blackout here
For one thing the Cowboys only play 8 games a year at home and with most all the lower season tickets already sold and relatively cheap upper deck seats its gonna be a sellout for many years. Plus Texas hasn’t been hit as hard by the economy as other places specifically NY

do you have a
link for the “relatively cheap upper deck seats”? I tried dallascowboys.com and googling for single game ticket prices without any luck. Cheapest thing I could find is $59 per game season tickets which required buying 2 preseason games – but that was from a DMN article from last year, so maybe they’ve lowered prices since.

I would consider that relatively cheap
When there are only 8 regular season home games the demand for them is sky high so people will pay 60 bucks if not for nothing else than to see the new stadium.

While $60 is likely
cheaper than the worst seats in DC and NY, that’s still a lot of money – and that’s before parking and concessions – I’m sure there won’t be any $1 hot dogs.
Also, apparently the main problem for the Yankees is selling the more expensive tickets.

Well
In baseball there are 10 times as many home games. So take the cheapest seat at TBiA which is what…5 dollars? Multiply that by 10 and if the rangers only played 8 home games the cheapest would be around 50 dollars probably.
As for the expensive seats those are about 98% sold. Yeah they reduced their initial price on some but so what. I don’t blame them one bit for trying to get as much money as possible. Its alot easier to lower prices to sell seats than jack them up because they are too cheap.
Trust me the Cowboys will be sold out every game for probably the next 5 years no matter how good or bad they are.

I couldn’t disagree with you more. If the economy doesn’t recover quickly and the team struggles – we’ll quickly see empty seats.
Do you have a link for the 98% sold number?

No link
But from watching the recent “Build it Bigger” on the new stadium Jerry said they were on their last few seats to be sold.
Also they added an additional 100 suites to the original design and have almost sold all of those. The last remaining are going to be custom built for whoever buys them.
Its the Dallas Cowboys. I could see a chance of empty seats if they played a 80 game home schedule like the Rangers but in playing only 8 home games a year and to add a brand new stadium on top of that its going to be packed every game for the forseeable future.
If there are empty seats it won’t be because of unsold seats but either people who don’t want to go (team struggling) or people in the clubs instead of their seats.

Jerry said they were on their last few seats to be sold.
Some of the vacant condos across the street from me have “sold” signs out in front of them just to give prospective buyers the misperception that there aren’t many condos left to buy.

Single games
Last I read you couldn’t buy single game tickets. They were going to make all seats season ticket seats, but with what appears to be a lack of support, I don’t know if they’ve reversed that policy or not. From all appearances it seems that they’re having issues selling the season tickets.

I think the obvious name...
that someone suggested in another post is the likely candidate:
Cowboys Stadium in Arlington
Once AT&T (or someone else signs on for the corporate side) it would be AT&T Cowboys Stadium (in Arlington)

How much of a local hero could Jerry become
If he named the stadium after Landry?
Not saying that’s what the name should be, just that he would patch lots of old wounds with that.

I don't disagree that he did the right thing
The way TL was kicked to the curb probably left some tact to be desired, though the story has been blown way out of proportion in an attempt to vilify Jerry since then.
Regardless, Jerry would surely win some brownie points with the people who have, probably unjustly, never forgiven him for that incident.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing
The Jerry vilification for that incident is right up there with “Doug Melvin is the greatest GM in Rangers history” in the pantheon of D-FW hindsight hyperbole. The hyperbolizers make the story out to be way worse than it actually was, and to make it worse, they like to ignore the fact that Jerry admitted he handled it poorly.

Actually,
I seriously doubt he would built up any long term goodwill. I agree with Studcrackers below. People who hate him for Landry are either always going to hate him, or love him if he actually starts being Super Bowl Competitive again.

He will name it after himself before he names it after Landry or Jimmy.
