well
duh
I use to love to hit, I use to take it serious. I only got one at bat a year, maybe...but, I took it serious. I hit 1.000 one year, if i had another at bat, I'd hit 2.000...
Bull shit is all I can say

I didn't see the game due to work but
Was Kinslers HR really a foulball or was it a HR that the umps just missed?

Nadel said
they watched the replay and decided it was indeed a foul ball – fwiw
and then Barnett started to suck the life out of me
Barnett always sounds drunk to me
Does he sound that way to anyone else?

Yes.
I experienced the delayed call from him today. I think it was a double by one of Baltimore’s hitters — I heard the crowd roar for at least two seconds before he even started describing the play.
At this point, I wonder if we could get Nadel’s off innings without any play-by-play commentary.
Actually
I kind of think he needs more to drink before the game. Maybe it would loosen him up. Worked pretty well for Harry Caray and Mike Shannon.

From where it landed especially, it seemed pretty unlikely it was foul.
It should have been reviewed at the very least.
I had to turn it off.
The balls/strikes calls today were so bad I couldn’t enjoy the game.
I’m pretty sure this is the first time piss poor officiating has caused me so much frustration I had to turn off an event I really wanted to watch since Dwyade-apalooza back in ’06.
On the plus side McCarthy was throwing some pretty good strikes today.
With a real umpire I think he would’ve had a real nice outing today. We need things like this from him.

Yah, that was ridiculous, but it was only one play, iirc.
This was just FU after FU after FU after FU to the point where I was about to run out into my neighborhood and harm the first living thing I came into contact with.
So many of those pitches were obviously effing strikes… I couldn’t figure out for the life of me what was going on.
Had to be a vengeance thing, right?
No way umpiring that consistently poor happens without intent.

Unfortunately, didn't get to see much of the game...
but the first 2 games give me a pretty good idea of what went down.
It sounds like this game was 2x as bad.
well, im actually not sure which game has been worse...
all I know is that Joe West is the crew cheif, he was terrible on Saturday, didnt even review Kinsler homerun, and I would kill that fat bastard if i saw him. Seriously, he is extremely incompetent and his crew falls in line with that.
Chris (NJ): I am personally offended at how you ranked a prospect from my favorite team, even though I do not know said prospect, nor have I ever seen him play. In my opinion you only have your job because, like your employers, you have an unholy bias towards my favorite team’s rival. Also, you’re short.
Keith Law: You’re right. I am short.
the first picture (on the left)
that is the first at bat for their catcher (Moeller?) At the time on the telecast they showed the ball strike data briefly.
Where does the data come from? Did their pitcher get squeezed too, or was it just McCarthy?
Mostly just McCarthy
This is just from the Rangers gameday on mlb.com. I looked through it to see McCarthy’s 3 walks of the game since I started watching only in the 7th inning and people here were saying he was getting screwed. They were right.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

What the green actually represents:
Rapuano got a c-note for every strike he called a ball today. Yep, he saw the game exactly as displayed on the image above;

Wouldn't you love to see the explosion
…that would occur with those shots if Mark Cuban owned the Rangers?
Definiton of insanity-doing the same thing and expecting different results
"Introducing your 2009 Texas Rangers-Built for Insanity!"
Or if our manager was actually paying attention when BMac was on the mound.
The cut over to him several times and he was on the bench horsing around with Josh not even feigning paying attention to the game.
You’d think that’d be a no-no for a manager.
But, whatever.

Fuck Tom Hicks in the goddamned ear.
Other than phenom starting pitching, there is nothing more I want for this team than an over-the-top but heavily invested owner like Mark Cuban.
Goddamn I hate Tom Hicks.
I don't want an over-the-top owner
I want someone who will write checks and otherwise leave the decision-makers alone.
Like Clint Murchison. Or Eddie DeBartolo.
by Adam J. Morris on Apr 26, 2009 5:33 PM CDT up reply actions
I definitely understand that position...
but would a Cuban-esque personality for this franchise be such a bad thing?
No.
But AJM hates, hates, HATES Mark Cuban, so don’t expect him to come around on this one.

Okay
Who would you rather have as an owner?
Mark Cuban?
Or Paul Allen?
by Adam J. Morris on Apr 26, 2009 5:37 PM CDT up reply actions
Both are business men.
But only one is an over zealous fan of his team. I personally dislike a lot of what Cuban does, but he lives and dies by the Mavs. And I’d happily take the sideshow if we had an owner than cared like that.
FUCK PAUL ALLEN!
Phil Knight writes checks to Oregon and turns them in to a borderline pro team. Knight should do that for his alma mater, but no, he spends more money on the damn Huskies.
What?
The 40 Trumps All!!!
You want the mustache on or off? ... ... ... Too bad.
by thedirkatron on Apr 26, 2009 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions
Aight, forgot I'm not talking to other northwesterners.
Phil Knight went to Oregon and poors ridiculous funds in to that school’s athletic program, which is a large part of why they are so good. State of the art facilities, uniforms, gear and all other manner of things to pull in coaches and recruits to make their program better than it should be (and probably a lot behind the scenes, too).
Paul Allen went to Washington State — just like me — and is obviously a sports fan. He should be our Phil Knight, but, instead, he actually gives more money to Washington.
I knew about Knight and Oregon, but you wrote Knight twice in the original rant and I had no idea what you meant.
What your describing would annoy me, too.
Although I’m sure if you’re a Blazers fan you’d be plenty happy with Paul Allen. He is, from what I’ve hear, pretty close to the perfect owner. Puts competent people in charge and lets them spend his money.

Oh, I see what I did.
My bad. Random explosion of fury.
And yeah, Blazers fans like Knight. Unfortunately, I’m a Lakers fan. . .
That's like saying, Who would you rather bone down on, Jessica Alba or Natalie Portman?
Their both perfectly fine.
As for your question, Yah, I’d rather have Paul Allen. Someone who just pumps money into the team, spares absolutely no expense, and doesn’t interject himself into the day-today at all (from what I understand anyway).
But saying you wouldn’t want someone who spends and cares just because you don’t like him personally is dumb.
Here’s a question:
Who do you think gives us a better chance at winning championships on a year-to-year basis, Mark Cuban, or Tom Hicks?

You should read
When the Forbes magazine NBA team figures came out earlier this year, I was surprised to see the Mavericks actually lost money [$13.6 million] last year. Is that accurate?
Yeah. We’ve lost money most of the years.
Is that because of your willingness to take on larger payrolls?
I’d rather win than make more money. I’ve got money. I’d just rather win.

Which is fine.

"I'd just rather win."
This is why Cuban would be good for the Rangers. Not a douchebag that could give two shits about the team and is only in it for the money.
If the Cuban-esque owner knows what he/she is doing, then it doesn’t fucking matter if they pull Cuban-eqse sideshow shit. They are emotionally invested in the team and don’t care about money…only winning.
Yes
Why would you want a Cuban-esque personality for the owner of the team? I never understood why someone who gets fines and says outrageous things and generally acts like a fool is considered to be a plus.
by Adam J. Morris on Apr 26, 2009 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions
Because he cares...
when your team loses it’s nice to know that the guy in charge is feeling the same emotional pain we feel as fans, and not just smiling to see he turned a profit for that year. I’d much rather have an owner that will do whatever it takes to win, and not whatever it takes to make sure he’s making a profit. Emotional attachment is a definite plus for an owner in my mind.
Cause he puts his money where his mouth is in most cases and he actually gives a shit.

that wouldn’t trade John Danks for Brandon McCarthy?
I’d settle for that.

Is it just me...
or has this happened to Rangers pitchers a couple time now this year? Especially with the low strike at the knees. It just seems like they aren’t getting the call.
I thought McCarthy pitched pretty good today. FB sat at 90-93 and he mixed in his change and slurve more than he has been. Still needs to find the command of that slurve that he had in his first start though. That bad throw by Nellie really hurt too.

Honestly, this is just a disgrace...
i cant watch basketball sometimes b/c officiating decides games so many times… I’ve never felt that was the case in baseball until today.
I dont know what to say, I hope every coach + salty gets themselves thrown out of tommorrows game in the ninth inning after we are winning by ten. These Umps deserve some public humiliation, someone needs to make sure ths kind of stuff doesnt ruin any more baseball games b/c I cant watch it if this stuff happens again.

I always questions the integrity
of each sport when there is so much riding on these games in the gamblers eyes. maybe not today’s rangers/orioles matchup, but I definitely think there is a large possibility that there are people bought of in every sport. Now, that may seem like a conspiracy theory, but gambling has been apart of baseball pretty much since its inception. Basketball and football are no different, especially basketball, where the official really can have a hand in the outcome of a game. It doesn’t even have to be a win or a loss, just keeping a point spread.
