I've mentioned it before...
He does appear to have worked on and improved his defense and he deserves props for that.

Great and encouraging read...
Interesting timing on a day I checked stats on both Buchholz and Varitek…

I was always of the mind
that if Salty’s bat came to where they thought it was, if he could become an average catcher he was by far the better of the two prospects.
What do voluntary mean?

Throwing
Neyer has an interesting blog up noting almost no correlation between a cathcer’s arm and team winning.
Of course, a catcher’s bat of course does correlate.

Salty pic
I googled Salty photos looking for an example of a point I thought
about making and came across this amusing pic.

thats a classic
I got a good chuckle out of that one.
Chris (NJ): I am personally offended at how you ranked a prospect from my favorite team, even though I do not know said prospect, nor have I ever seen him play. In my opinion you only have your job because, like your employers, you have an unholy bias towards my favorite team’s rival. Also, you’re short.

I so should have gone to that game
I was in Oakland that day and thought about going to the game (walk-up tickets are easy to get there) but decided I wanted to get home earlier in the day instead.
So I was kicking myself for not going to that game when I saw what happened.

That pic is priceless
Salty and Padilla just beating the crap out of Swisher.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I have been thougroughly
impressed with salty this year. I think we may be underestimating how much better he’s gotten behind the plate this year. I felt like he’d be better coming into this year just because every report on him suggests that he’s an above average worker and all spring he’d been working extremely hard. So far, I havent seen a ball get by him that i thought shouldnt have, he’s been exceptional at blocking balls, and his throwing is off the charts better, almost every one of his throws has been on a hop right on the bag or straight to the bag. The only thing im a bit concerned about is his framing, im not sure if its partly his fault that umpires seem to screw our pitchers over more than the other team.
Im starting to really get excited about Salty again. He’s still just 23 and we have him for 4 more years after this. Im starting to expect him to become one of the best catchers in the game.

I was one of the LSBers...
who was in favor of TT over Salty because of his defense. Salty has changed my mind. He really has impressed me with how much he has improved his game defensively. He got off to a slow start at the plate, but is now starting to hit like many of us thought he could. If he had gotten off to a slow start both offensively and defensively then it may have been another story. It’s odd that his glove may have keep him from splitting time with TT early on. It’s nice to see how much he really has improved his game. I hope he keeps it up.

Good stuff
I always thought he had the tools to improve his D, and he has.
The bat’s also coming around again too: since April 16th, he’s hitting .407/.429/.630 and he’s got a 5-game hitting streak going into tonight.
I must get out of the plane, go to a nearby farmhouse - have a Dr Pepper - and call the police.
