damn!

still no word on how we are planning to clear up that last spot, I guess.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

damn

he was intriguing if nothing else

Koshansky now has to wait behind Prince Fielder. I’m sure the brewers will put Koshansky on waivers and we’ll get to see who else will pick him up.

It was fun while it lasted

Bring on April 6th!

Do they even have to put him on waivers right now?

Why did we claim him in the first place? We didn't have room, he didn't have options...

I thought it be all warm and shitty, but it just tasted like normal beer. It was still cold.

by RA Dickey on Apr 3, 2009 3:07 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah he did

Looks to me like he had 2 options remaining.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by RA Dickey on Apr 3, 2009 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

The plan was...

…claim him, have him on the roster for a few days, then put him on waivers and try to get him to clear, at which point you outright him.

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 3, 2009 3:19 PM CDT up reply actions

but were there any pitchers or 3rd basemen or even catchers

that could have been taken instead?

My guess is

that the Rangers were just looking for guys their scouts liked. Whoever the best player out there was.

Much ado about nothing...

But I DID wonder why we took a flyer on a AAA first baseman with Smoak on the way.

by bking on Apr 3, 2009 3:25 PM CDT reply actions

if Smoak performs well in Frisco to start the year

I wonder if he gets to jump to OKC just a little sooner now.

Who will be playing 1B in OKC to start the year? Gold is gone. We don’t even have Mayberry as a backup option.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

by clark on Apr 3, 2009 3:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Smoak

You don’t rush prospects to fill positions. When he is ready he will get the promotion regardless of who is currently playing 1st in OKC.

by bigsteve on Apr 3, 2009 3:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I understand that...

but I didn’t see Koshansky as filler. If he was just that, then “meh”; if we was viewed as possibly usefule, then a slight “huh?” followed quickly by “meh”.

by bking on Apr 3, 2009 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Koshansky

To me it was just the case of us trying to grab a guy with obvious power who we could possibly slide thru waivers and keep in the system and who could possibly develop into a slugging DH or be used as trade bait. If we ended up trading both Max and Davis or Smoak he could possibly have been used as a DH.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Apr 3, 2009 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions

exactly

and he would figure in the 30’s in our system so he is still a prospect to be sure. If Blalock went down in the first week maybe kansky wouldve have been our DH for awhile…

by Goyogringo on Apr 3, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep

You can never have too many options.

Davis, Smoak, and Max would all bring back more in trade than Koshansky would and based on their minors numbers the difference offensively wouldn’t be significant enough to keep us from dealing one or two of those three.

huffman most likely

frostad should be the b/u catcher/1b. Fox can play the Inf as well.

by Goyogringo on Apr 3, 2009 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

oh yeah

that’s right. i completely forgot about Huffman.

Is Vallejo going to OKC or Frisco?

by clark on Apr 3, 2009 4:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I think he platoons at SS/2B

with lil’ lemon in AA. Though if metcalf is claimed off of waivers – should he be that guy – then it is possible that Duran shifts to 3b and Vallejo to 2b. In that scenario he gets much less time at short so I would rather he stay in AA for the first half.

yo clark

I’m going to pimp my blog since you like to ask roster questions. Check it out. I’ve had projected rosters up since December:)

…was optioned to Frisco.
