by blalock84 on Apr 30, 2009 4:22 PM CDT reply actions

So is MY still clutch?

That was kind of big. Even after the robbed home run, Hank should have been up with one out in a one-run game.

by philkid3 on Apr 30, 2009 4:22 PM CDT reply actions

umm YES

I think winning three games with HR’s is a little more significant than having a bad call against you at third base down 3 in the ninth of a single game, this bit about him not being clutch is getting sooo old

by blueballlefty on Apr 30, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

..he hit a double in the bottom of the ninth

if someone is saying hes clutch I don’t think that at bat is an argument against it just because he thought he could get to third…

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on Apr 30, 2009 4:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I think poor thinking in that situation is as big an argument against someone being clutch as any.

If I actually believed there was such a thing as clutch or unclutch, I would be looking at mental errors like that.

by philkid3 on Apr 30, 2009 4:35 PM CDT up reply actions

That's supposed to be the whole thing with clutch

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

by Gdawg on Apr 30, 2009 5:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Was it a bad call?

It looked like it was a tie at best for Young. Young had no reason to try for third at that time.

Ryan Sweeney: Oh, nothing much, I was just trying to focus on the ball – hoping that I would have enough room.

Karl Ravech: What did this win mean for the team?

Ryan Sweeney: Oh, it means a lot, I mean. Our offense has struggled early in the season; I know we will come around, but we can’t waste good pitching performances like what Dallas gave us tonight. It was a good win, hopefully it will carry into the future

Karl Ravech: Where would you rank this catch in the plays you have made in your career

Ryan Sweeney: Oh man, I don’t know. It was definitely special… When I came down with the ball, I was totally on fire. It was like one of those warm feelings that you ha……. ARGGGAGRGARG

there were a lot of positives to be taken from this

1. Padilla pitched pretty well, and his final line probably should have looked better than it did. 2. Andruw Jones is an asset. 3. Jason Jennings is our new Jamey Wright (when Wright was at this best as an innin-eating reliever. 4. Guardardo is one step closer to being cut.

I honestly think

that losing Bradley has had a greater impact on our offense than we ever could have predicted. His patience at the plate seemed to have rubbed off on a lot of our players. When he left he seemed to have taken our plate discipline with him.

Let's give him to the 1/2 mark

Blalock will have some trade value if he continues to hit for home runs and have 1/2 a year left on his contract.

a flawed offensive team right now. Between Blalock and Byrd, we’re 100% hacktastic.

we need to trade Byrd

ASAP. I love him as a player, but he is so streaky and his value as an all around player can’t get any higher. lots of teams could use a guy who can play all 3 OF positions.

the funny thing about byrd is that last year he was one of our most patient hitters.

he had 6 so's as of this morning and 1 bb

logic would suggest that with a good BA right now, the guy is making contact with just about anything thats close to the plate, making solid contact and making defenses earn their outs.

im of with him striking out 6 times in 66 ABs with 1 BB.

Blalock

Actually has a .833 OPS with 2 HR and 10 RBI with RISP. That’s actually good for 5th on the team right now – and the dropoff from 5th to 6th is huge (Murphy is 6th with a .700).

I just am not surprised enough to be upset. We suck against mediocre lefties and we suck in day games, so I really didn’t expect to win this one. Plus, the A’s are simply a much more intelligent (although far less talented) team than we are.

We face Mark Buehrle tomorrow, and he absolutely owns us, so get ready for another loss. Hopefully it will be a little easier to swallow.

I figured it was the A’s game the whole way although they’d done nothing to really deserve it besides take the field in order to facilitate Texas’ self-inflicted demise. Sweeney’s catch actually made their W legit in some twisted way.

there has been at least 3 articles mentioning the exact thing this douche is complaining about, and really, it isn’t the Ks that are worrying as it is the lack of walks from the guys. Byrd and Hack are awful right now. Post like that piss me off almost as much as Ryan Sweeney does.

by JimCrankshaft on Apr 30, 2009 5:31 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not so worried about Salty

or even Hamilton because they’re adjusting to new stances and stuff. And Salty had a pretty good year last year as far as patience goes, and isn’t going down on first pitching as much as Blalock and Byrd.

The hacking Bs, on the other hand, have been awful as far as P/PA

I'm not convinced Padilla...

and his lack of velocity is just a dead arm now. He seemed to get some back last outing but was right back at 88-90 mph today. His velocity really worries me. I don’t think this team can be close to .500 with Padilla pitching the way he is right now. He’s lucky he was facing the A’s lineup today or he would have given up 5 or 6 runs through 6.

but the Rangers are still in decent shape. Hope they can fuse the pitching and hitting more consistently, because this team has an awful tendency to let the other half slide, even with this lineup.
