Awesome!

I missed the game because of work, but I’m ecstatic about the result. I hope it was as good as the score. Great start to the season!

currently at 23 players

it stands to reason that Fox and Gentry will be added. The pitching staff already has 12 names, but for some reason I was thinking AAA teams have 26 man rosters, so perhaps they’ll be able to squeeze Murray on there.

The game could have hardly been any better, but I have to watch on MLB.com as I live in Central America, and that could hardly have been worse. They lost the video for several innings then came back with the Ranger video feed with the Indians play by play, then at the end of the 8th switched over to the Mets game. I hope they get their act together quickly.

It was beautiful.

When the crowd was so into it that he threw a wild pitch trying to strike out the guy to end the 7th, I’d say he pitched pretty well. I’ve never seen a crowd that jazzed about a pitcher trying to get a K in the 7th inning before, but it was a really neat scene.

From Gameday

I only saw from looking at Gameday, but it looked like he was laboring in that 7th inning. His pitches were up, he allowed 2 hits, (only 5 on the day….. Also, only 2 of his pitches to all 6 batters of the inning were down. Everything else was up. Last year, Washington woudl have pulled him to start the seventh inning.. I wonder how much Nolan Ryans influence was there getting tht 7thinning surprized

by iblum on Apr 6, 2009 5:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

OK

If someone remains skeptical that’s okay in my book because, you know what? For seven out of the last eight years the team has sucked a big, fat penis.

I’m obviously a fan or I wouldn’t suffer through that. I’m sure it’s the same way with NY.

But if they want me to be optimistic about this season they’re going to have to show me something. One game isn’t quite enough.

If they win 15 games this month and 20 next month and then I start to get a little optimistic do you think that’s bandwagoning? After suffering through decades of bad baseball? Thousands of games…

NY’s being realistic I’m sad to report. Look again at the innings pitched totals from the starters last year. Do you honestly expect the Rangers to have a couple of guys throw more than 200 innings and another throw 175 or so? Because that’s what it takes to save your bullpen, plus one other pitcher who makes it to the seventh inning at least every now and then.

Worried about Davis. If the Rangers stink the rest of April, Wash won’t be around to fiddle with him. I don’t think he’ll yank Davis if the team is doing well.

I am so thrilled about Elvis. The Rangers have never had a defensive wiz at short, EVER! I believe they’ll be patient about his stick coming around.

Well, im still convinced that american sports have done a great job of stripping the we out of them

this isnt your league its our league. this isnt your team its tom hix team. those are your players they play for MLB.

there are very few things in life or sports that are constant, but for a guy whose been dedicated to the team through 2 generations of ballplayers, 5 different owners, 15 different managers, and the only constant was you and i and all the rest of us as fans. Owners come and go. Players come and go. Coaches come and go. Teams dont come and go, and fans dont come and go.

SCREW THAT. This isnt his team or the team or the franchise its our team its our club. Tom Hicks’ will come, and yet there will always be our club.

its called creating detachment and american pro sports do a great job of making sure there is just enough to do whatever they want.

the moment we all look at it as our club and are willing to stand up for our club is the moment these assholes like Tom Hicks’ of this countries sporting world wont be allowed to run their supposed clubs into the ground for decades at a time while all the alleged fans whine about what is being done to “The Texas Rangers Franchise” .

by ghostofErikThompson on Apr 7, 2009 12:53 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree.

Though I saw “we” a lot out of habit, I do wish it would disappear. Especially from people with no attachment to a team other than they win a lot or they were interesting. Especially the vast array of people on the internet who think the team they root for happening to win makes them a better person than someone else.

That said, I get “we” if it’s the school you actually went to.

I tailgated with with the guys I met Saturday.

I had to put my hand on the grill lid several times to warm it up…even after 4 or 5 tallboys, a buncha grilled jalapeno sausage hunks, chips and really hot rotel dip…nothing helped! BRRRRR! That wind was a biotch.

Then, again totally random, while returning from the potty inside the CF entrance, this couple from Hawaii stop me down, offer me a grilled sausage and a Heineken. So i hung with them for 15 minutes or so as they were packing up, and then went back to the others tailgate….and grabbed another brew.

I think I should like to become a professional tailgate crasher when I grow up!

1) it was really freakin’ cold when we first got there, but it was pretty nice sitting in the sun.
2) it was also very very nice to have such a great game today
3) my husband is the guy who won the trivia question on the video board in the 7th.
4) when you’re sitting in the stands with a bunch of LSBers, it’s almost like a live GDT. (I believe I heard the phrase, “somewhere, Adam is watching the boxscore with a single tear running down his cheek”.)

LOL!

That was Ben. And you are right, it was kinda like a GDT. It was great. I had a blast.

I sent you guys' seat info...

…along with the fact that you and Micah had gotten Rangers/baseball-related tattoos to some folks, in the hopes that Jim Knox would come talk to you.

It would have surpassed the Lima dress as the greatest LSB moment ever.

i'm rooting for the a's

i wish both could lose as i really want the a’s hype to disappear, but since I don’t believe the hype I’d much rather the clear favorite lose every game they can.

the preceding post was a great success.

I think I'm glad

that didn’t happen. It’s enough that out of alllll the people in the park, the six shooters decided my husband was “decked out in Rangers gear” (who wasn’t?) and put him up on the video board in the 7th to answer a trivia question. (At least he got it right!)

That would have been funny

Here is the LSB contingent in all their glory…

My thoughts.
1) I can identify C.J. Wilson by his thighs.
2) Hank Blalock doesn’t like it when I talk smack about his swing…he proceeds to hit a HR.
3) Clearly, Chris Davis felt a ton of pressure with me in the stands as evidenced by his 0-4 outing. He’ll do better Wednesday.
4) Lisa’s right….it was like our own audio GDT.

I had a blast with all the LSBers I got to meet and hope I can get back down sometime this season. :-)

Today makes you even more anxious for a winner

It would have been that much more fun if you thought that they could sustain that sort of run prevention on a consistent basis, rather than just not wanting to go to sleep, fearing that reality will set in.

I was struck, walking in, since the concourses were packed, it was cold and windy, and there was a hint of excitement, that it felt like a football game almost.

Also, with the collection of personalities they have, this team is going to be easy to root for. Just have to nurture that pitching a little longer. Pretty energetic, effervescent group.

The collection of personalities is part of why last year was my favorite Rangers team ever.

I remember 98 and 99 just fine and I liked those years, but I was also young and didn’t appreciate things as much. Last year, the sliding on the tarp and Hamilton’s story and Kinsler’s constant enthusiasm and Davis’s goofy awesomeness and all the young, home grown guys starting to show up and, I admit, Murphy’s “gamerness.” All that stuff just made me love that mediocre team and I don’t see any of that going away any time soon.

Frankly, I want to win, but I think this will be a great time as a Rangers fan even if we don’t.

My thoughts

1. Big rally from the bottom of the order. Nice to see Salty pick up a 2 RBI hit with 2 outs and than the 2 added after that were a big time bonus.

2. Andrus is incredibly fun to watch at SS. He made some really tough plays look really easy.

3. MY made a fabulous play on a slow roller. He is in his best defensive position.

4. Great approach by the Rangers hitters. Lots of opposite field base hits.

It was a great game.

Millwood looked great, Andrus was a frikkin beast, and Ian was himself.

Andrus’ first at-bat=double
Andrus’ first fielding play=double play
Andrus’ first game=win
Andrus first season=playoffs?

I believe this is what they're talking about

Tigers took all their players off the field during the middle of the 8th inning, when they were in the field, because there was trash on the field. Would not come back on until the trash was taken off the field. First I’ve ever seen this. At the game today, I saw trash flying around all over the field, yet neither manager really cared. But the Tigers complained….maybe cause they don’t want their ballclub to be compared to trash? I dunno…

Is it April 6 Yet?

Teixeira deal

paid some dividends today. And it could pay quite a few more by the time this year is over.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

One of the most irresponsible criticisms of last season

was the attempt to dismiss the 2007 deadline deals by saying that those players had done nothing for the major league team. Those people know who they are, and beyond just wanting to see my team win, I really root for these players because I want those folks to be embarrassed by their stance much like all of those people who ripped the Herschel Walker deal and Jimmy Johnson in 1989. It’s one thing to be wrong. It’s quite another to argue things that you know aren’t true just because you’re lazy and are more interested in seeing an individual fail than the team win.
