Anyone interested in keeping tally of how many plays made this year it appears to us would not have been made last year?

I didn't attend the game, but from browsing Newberg/LSB/BBTIA and reading reports, it appears the infield probably made 3 plays that it wouldn't have last season. I don't know if there were plays that weren't made that would've been made last year.

So far, from these reports, it looks like the Rangers are +3 over last year, all from the left side of the infield thus far.

i can think of 2

the one were MY made a place coming across the infield on a slow roller and the andrus play behind 2nd

what was the 3rd one?

Didn't Mike make two of those?

And Andrus turned a couple of very good DP’s, though I’m not sure that MY would have missed them.

And yes to the post below, Laird probably makes that stop, and I’m betting Teagarden would have as well.

I think its just easier to track the MY/Andrus +/-

As mentioned above, Young was able to make a great play at 3rd that previous 3b probably wouldn’t have done, and Andrus actually showed some killer range yesterday.

So between MY and Andrus we’re at +2.

I really think

that MY will make the adjustment faster than a lot of us think.

by Michael Cave on Apr 7, 2009 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions

I assume

he will make it pretty quick. When you are moving from a “harder” position to an “easier” one, the adjustment isn’t too difficult.

The position plays to his strengths, with his sure hands and a good arm. 3B really doesn’t need quite so much range, as balls get to 3B too quick to make range as important as it is at SS.

Possible that Laird would have caught the wild pitch by Millwood?

Absolutely not.

No catcher would have had a chance on that one.

You're probalby right.

That pitch was as far off the plate as Sabathia’s pitches in his Yankee debut yesterday. Just stating for arguments sake – thinking of plays that didn’t get made yesterday. Thankfully and excitingly, there are not many of those to choose from.

Yeah

I checked that out on my recording last night, and he literally had to dive sideways to try to get to that, much less try to deal with the fact that it bounced five feet in front of the plate and had spin on it. That was virtually impossible to block.

Agree

As much as I’m critical of Salty’s catching, he didn’t have a chance there. His throw back to the plate wasn’t great, but it was rushed and didn’t give away any extra bases. Just a tough to impossible play.

Does it have to be player vs. player?

Because the same player can make improvements year to year and reach a ball they didn’t last year.

heh.

Well, this all seems too complicated and not really all that informative. So, best to wait for Dewan to do his analysis of the season after its over, which will give us all something solid to talk about.

HOW ABOUT THROWING STRIKES

Isn’t that a play that wasn’t made last year

Nobody punished like Earl and No one was nastier than Ryan
