OT - Parking Misery Yesterday
I wanted to ask you guys where you all ended up parking? I had to work until 11:00, so I didn't get there until about 11:45, and by that time, many of the parking lots were full so I ended up parking in the parking lot between Siemens and the Sheraton. Anyways, at the end of the game, we left right after the final out, walked straight to the car, then we sat, unmoving for over a half hour.
I'm not sure if cops just weren't directing traffic on our only way out or what, but literally our parking lot did not move for forever. I am going to take special care to avoid this lot in the future, and I recommend the same to all of you.
Did anyone else have any similar issues? Here's a photo I took from my iPhone, because I love America. And Texas:
Anyways, I hope you all had as good of a time as I did - this was pure greatness this year!

No issues for me
parked in a lot owned by some business on Stadium drive. We tailgated after the game for about 30 min or so and we got out of the parking lot with no wait.

Parking
Arlington is idiotic. They need a public transit options desperately. Cowboys games are going to be an unbelievable nightmare.

They just need a train to run on gamedays from Dallas to Arlington, like the TRE runs past the AAC.

its all going down.
supposedly the line that division st. is next to will have 3+ depot stops and run as public mass transit. Texas passed a bill to re route the through traffic on a re-around up north. none of that solves this stuff now, and none of it solves what u do with freight to and fro the gm plant but its gonna be light years better than our current sitch.
mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.

Arlington
They have opted not to be a part of DART or the TRE, and they won’t be serviced by a route until they join. I believe that Arlington is the largest city in the nation without any public transit. Foolish.

i wrote a paper on this in college
if you look at the voting records, it really boils down the to the “rich” west side out voting the “poor” eastside. Also, when you factor in that many people from the east side don’t have public transportation to get to the polls, it becomes even more clear how slanted the city is on not wanting it.
Basically, those that have no need for it are selfish and vote against it so that they don’t have to pay so that those that need it can’t use it to better their lives or some such.

I hit traffic at 11:45
And made it to the Lexus Valet lot about 12:45, only to be told it is full. Total time from leaving work at 11, got me to my seats for the bottom of the first inning. It was putrid.

Getting out sucked ass.
I parked at a business on Stadium, and it took me almost an hour to get to 360…and I had some redneck in a big deisel truck right behind me honking and shouting obscenities for at least 30 minutes of that.
I understand they have police directing traffic on the “inner circle” of the parking area, but further out there is no flow regulation. Lot D entering the traffic flow out of the area was very dangerous, as drivers had to cut across oncoming traffic and then wait minutes before merging into the “outbound” traffic. This resulted in several screaming incidents, as well as several almost crashes.

what else did you expect
No one in Arlington or Texas carpools, there were 49,000 in the crowd and probably 25,000 cars.

I parked...
at parking lot G, which I think is the closest to 30. I didn’t have too many problems, except some drunk jackasses cutting people off.

we got one of the last
spots at the arlington convention center. we were sitting in line to park for like 20 or 30 minutes, we saw the car in front of us turn in there so we decided to do that. little did we know it would cost 20 bucks (did anybody else pay this much?)
getting out wasnt to bad, though my friend i was driving with gps told us to go 1 way for us to get back to stillwater then it totally switched up on us, so we were in traffic a couple times leaving the park.

I had no issues...
parking my ass on the sofa to watch the game.
I would have traded that in a heartbeat to have been there in person to experience the parking problems though.

Exactly
stop whining about getting to go to an awesome opening day. Maybe if the score was 15-5 Indians and raining the whole time, I’d feel sorry for you sitting in your car for an hour. A perfect opening day? Not so much.

Whining?
Where did I whine? I was asking for advice for the future and even concluded my post with:

Maybe
But still, your comments were completely unwarranted, so you get a tough response. Deal with it.
by FuturePants on Apr 7, 2009 12:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
completely unwarranted?
There are a dozen people here, not just you, saying that their parking situation was aggravating. I don’t think the word “whining” is all that far off from the general sentiment. Not all of us get to go to opening day, those of us sitting at home are envious.
I like your picture.

until we realized no one was in the car. After that, parking was a breeze.

No they weren't
but I think that this will be worse. For one thing, it was a real simple route from the highway to whichever lot you were going to (private or public). It was just that the pure volume overwhelmed the infrastructure. Here, I think you’ll have both problems for a period of time (in years). There is not enough road/lane volume to handle the traffic, and some of the routes are much messier (partly because of unfinished construction and partly because of bad road routes that are not being corrected). At least the games will generally not begin or end during rush hour (MNF as the exception) like yesterday did. That made the whole 360N mess after the game much worse.
I intend to do a lot of tailgating and hanging around North Arlington when I go to Cowboys games in the near future.
by Brett Perryman on Apr 7, 2009 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
all that is true
but they are completely revaming the I-30/360 interchange which will fix alot of the problems there now. Also, they are fixing the on/off ramps at 360 exits like Division which will make a huge difference.
That said, I live in Mansfield, and I don’t plan on going north of I-20 when the Cowboys play in the fall….

On the 360 stuff
I guess I’ve just watched how quickly these projects have gone in the recent past, and I’m skeptical that it will be finished any time soon. And I’m disillusioned by the sequence of events for components like 161.
by Brett Perryman on Apr 7, 2009 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
161 is greatness, if you like hitting oversized speed bumps at 80mph.
I can’t believe how undulating some parts of that is, given that is is relatively new. Very poor workmanship.

The stretch from 35E to Las Colinas Blvd. is my favorite stretch of highway in the Metroplex
Four open lanes. NEVER any traffic. And you get a quick peek of the skyline.

Yep
On the George Bush portion, northbound, just prior to the Baylor imaging center in Las Colinas is the biggest warp I’ve ever seen in a highway. The 161 segment just north of 183 has a couple of bad ones as well.

Southbound just before McCarthur is a huge bump.
Lot’s of black marks from rubbing, and at night you often see sparks from cars bottoming out.

It wasn't too bad
Rather than risk wandering around looking for a spot we parked way out there, so it was a long walk to the parking lot. But thats not that big of a deal.
After the top of the 8th we walked from RF to 3b so we could be at the exit closest to our parking spot and watched the rest of the game standing there. There was no problem getting out of the lot and not too much traffic on the wa home so it was all ok.
the preceding post was a great success.

Parking was kind of a nightmare.
And my usual tactic of parking in the private business owned lots off of Randol Mill didn’t seem to work out this time.
by macromorgan on Apr 7, 2009 11:38 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
We got there at 8
and parked in lot B, on the second row closest to the ballpark. Still, we sat in the cash parking line for a few minutes getting in because I guess there was only one entrance to lot B open, and the line for cash parking was blocking it.
It took us about an hour to get out also. Police were directing the way out of the parking lot and all the way until we passed all the parking lots, then it was a total free-for-all, and it sucked.

Parked at Six Flags
It actually wasn’t as terrible as it could have been (took Ballpark Way to Lamar and then cut right towards 360 southbound…thanks to Rodney for suggesting that), though more organization would have been welcome.
by Joey Matschulat on Apr 7, 2009 12:08 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
We noticed...
…that if you are westbound on 30, skip Ballpark Way (which was completely overrun), and take the next exit (Connor?), then u-turn around. That exit is completely redone from last year and ultra easy.
by FuturePants on Apr 7, 2009 12:10 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
next exit is collins
I’d actually suggest taking cooper or fielder and doubling back east on Randol Mill or Division to stadium (my preferred route)

Baird Farm Road
I didn’t go to the game yesterday, but was on a tech scout for the new Cowboys stadium.
We were in Arlington at around 11:30.
The 360 exit loop-around was backed up on 30.
The Ballpark Way exit was literally backed up to the far east side of Six Flags
The Baird Farm Road exit was absolutely empty! Did nobody know about this exit?
I literally got to the Dr. Pepper Park intersection in 30 seconds. The line at Ballpark Way and 360 would have had me waiting for a half-hour easily!

No, it's Mr. Toad
From The Wind in the Willows, or better known for the Disneyland ride themed around him: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.
At first glance you would think it is nothing more than a really lame children’s ride as you get in a car which appears to be doing a wheelie, then you sit on it and it moves at a slow speed through a short indoor track. What I like about it so much is what you see while on that track:
The ride opens and you are Mr. Toad driving a car. Mr. Toad obviously parties. In fact, it opens with Mr. Toad drinking and such. After things get out of control a little bit and Mr. Toad drives his car through a farmer’s mailbox, he gets pulled over by the cops, tried and sentenced to prison.
Mr. Toad busts out of prison and goes immediately back to the bar where he gets wasted and gets back on the road. This time, Toad ends up driving the wrong way down a railroad track as the oncoming train approaches closer and closer.
The final room is blazing hot and full of fire and brimstone, and at the conclusion of the ride, the Devil himself is laughing at you.
So, the ride is, “You drink, you drive, you go to hell.”

I parked in my regular covered spot in my apartment complex,
And walked the 2.4 miles to the Ballpark. Glad I made the choice, although the people I walked with were less than thrilled on the way home, I think. If you saw 3 chicks walking illegally on the median of the Ballpark-I-30 overpass at about 10 a.m., I hope you waved.

I was only less than thrilled
because my feet hurt, the wind was in my face and I had to go to the bathroom (I know, I know, I should have gone before we left the park).
