Scoreboard Changes
After watching Saturday's game and yesterday's game, I came in this morning and made some changes on the scoreboards.
I have added a ball, strike, out count to the board in left field below The Diamond Club...One of my goals this off season was to make the main line score on the main scoreboard larger, by moving the balls, strikes and outs to one of the new ribbon panels across the front of home run porch...my mistake was thinking that fans down the first base line would be able to use that for the count....After Saturday's game I added a B, S, O count to the main board, so my director could see a count......
So, now ball, strikes, outs will be on the main scoreboard, across the panel on home run porch, behind the plate on the new linescore there and then on the board in left just below the Diamond Club............
In addition, I think we have corrected the problems we were having with radar gun from Saturday and yesterday.....should work immediately with every pitch.......
I saw a couple comments here on the B, S, O on Lone Star ball and that helped in my decision making....One of the great things about the new technology in scoreboards, pretty easy to change things.....so, if you see something that you would to see us add or consider, please email me at cmorgan@texasrangers.com
Thanks
Chuck

I liked all the changes
I think the video on the new scoreboard in LF should be bigger — it was hard to see when it was showing whatever was on the main jumbotron — is it possible for it to be 2 of the “squares” of the screen?
Also — on the ribbon panel — is there a particular reason why it doesn’t extend the entire way down the 1B line? It seems like there is a section missing…..
Thanks Chuck

sry didn't see this was answered

Went to the exhibition game on Saturday...
…and couldn’t stop raving about the LED ribbon panel. It really adds an extra flair to the ballpark.

Outstanding, thank you Chuck.
I really, really liked the new additions. I too wish the LF video section could be bigger, but I understand the space contraints.
Perhaps if the scoreboard could have switched places with the SW Airlines Ad panel…

Scoreboards
dirk……since we are not HD in the control room or on top of the home run porch..we have to feed the same ratio of video to the board in left that we feed to the main video board…2 panels will not look right, video would be stretched……..
Keep in mind, this is only phase 1 of a 2 phase process of changing the scoreboard system…..if phase 2 we won’t even need the video on the left field board…..4 huge HD screens across the top of the roof of the office building and then all video screen on top of home run porch……..Even though it is small, it is a stopgap measure to get us to the next phase…which will probaly happen over the next off season.
The reason the ribbon panel stops just before the end of the facade down the right field line….the facade at that end can’t support weight of the ribbon panel……
Had we finished the panel out and something happened yesterday, my guess is that makes the 10 o’clock news
Thanks
Chuck
given that
can’t argue too much for the ribbon not going all the way down the right field line haha

Interesting
Thanks for the info.
Like I said, I’m very pleased with the results, the size of the replay on the LF screen was our only “complaint” — the question on the 1B side ribbon panel was just my curiosity…

One on-topic comment and one off-topic comment.
On topic: Phase 2 sounds massive. Folks will ask how it might affect the “jet-stream”. Will you guys be able to talk about that?
Off topic: Has any thought been given to generating some of the electricity locally via wind turbines?
JD: Adamant about 78 wins in 2009. Go Rangers!
Wind Study
any addition to the roof would just replace existing structures already there.
won’t effect the winds.

If you could
Im not sure if phase 2 is this far along yet, but if you could please…
A. Will the new HD board be where the Southwest sign is know(Left center field, up on the “roof”)
B. The new "all video screen on top of the hr porch, Im assuming this will replace the current video board and the inning score board? Im also assuming that you will incorporate the inning score onto this new board above hr porch?
C. Will the 4 new HD boards be seperated, or will they appear to all be one big board… I guess Im trying to get a mental image of what they will look like up there, could you elaborate?
You probably cant anwser this, but is their any timetable for phase 2, and maybe more imprtantly, what is phase 3???
This is our year.

Mr. Morgan
Let me say thank you for all you do in the ball park, it really makes the presentation great. I to enjoyed all of the upgrades in the RBiA, i gagree the left field screen seamed small but understand the size constraints on that wall, and also think it will be easier to see during night games. Your truly greatness sir
New signage
The BSO behind home plate was the only one we could see from section 39.. took a minute to find it, but the text is nice and large. The whole park seems smaller now— maybe it was the larger text on the displays, or that it was a packed house. Left field video is small and you can’t really make it out from first base side (sec 39). The left field score board text size was good, and it was neat to see all the detail instead of just the scores. Ribbon panel graphics were clean and not too “Arena football-ish” (which is good!).
Music was great! The park really had great energy yesterday, looking forward to more games like that!
Chuck, thanks for making these changes.
Having sat on the 3B side yesterday, looking at the BSO counts in RF was a great addition, and I was wondering why the radar guns weren’t working both days, but I am glad to see you’ve taken measures to correct that, as well as making the BSO addition out in LF. I personally enjoyed each of the upgrades made to the ballpark over the offseason; I couldn’t stop raving about how great everything looked to my friends.
To reiterate the comments my fellow posters here have made, thank you so very much for all that you do for us as Rangers fans. We really appreciate everything; it’s tough to imagine having better people working for us as fans. And it’s nice to see that our opinion counts for something out there at RBiA.
Thanks again Chuck.

Also...
You choosing to play “All Shook Up” after Elvis’ first hit was HYSTERICAL. Well done there.

In addition
when elvis makes a great play defensively, and gets a double/triple/hr, that should be played, it could be something he caries throughout his long Ranger career

Thumbs up on the changes
That was my only complaint about Saturday’s game – that some of the info I wanted to see wasn’t on the panel below the diamond club.

Chuck...you are my hero.
I say this every time I see your post, but I’d love to have your job when you retire! :)
I am fascinated by the work that you do, from Rangers operations to your little known voiceover work on All-Star Baseball 2005. I would love to sit in your office sometime and watch you work.
A huge fan!

Can't remember if it happens when players are called up to bat but...
I noticed during the lineup announcement that the ribbon displayed video of the player posing, as it used to on the video board in right, but I think the video was too big for the ribbon because all we saw was an intense version of their moving eyes. Would be nice if we got this player video on the video boards.
Just have to say...
Mr. Morgan, you are an awesome asset to the Texas Rangers’ organization. Your continued efforts to really keep in touch with the fans and respond to them as much as you are able earns you my greatest respect, sir.
