2-0
Not as pretty as yesterday afternoon, but it will definitely do.
Decent performance from Vicente Padilla. C.J. Wilson doing his Mitch Williams imitation. Nelson Cruz letting everyone know he's for real. Elvis with his first home run, and his first error, in the same game.
The one thing that sort of bothers me, though, and that I have to mention...what is C.J. Wilson doing in the game, with a 6 run lead on Monday and a 4 run lead today? He and Frankie have pitched in both games so far this season. If you aren't going to use Warner Madrigal or Scott Feldman against the bottom of the order with a 4 run lead in the 8th inning, when are you going to use them?

I can kind of understand game 1
Wanting to drive the nails in the coffin, you know. But there’s nothing really symbolic about game 2…that was weird bullpen management.
Agreed
Game one I understood. Opening day, want to give your 8th and 9th inning guys the ball to set the tone for the season. Today, I don’t really understand as much. Both of them have injury histories, and Wash should be careful about wearing those two out.
"Was this really necsarry?" - cowpoke/hurler hurley
game 2
The only thing I can think of is CJ was warming up with the 3 run lead which is a hold/save situation. Cruz hit his 2nd home run with 2 outs and there wasn’t enough time to warm up another pitcher.
Call 1-800-DOCTORB. The B is for bargain!
We simply must
get off to a good start in April, is my guess.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
At least
There was some good defense mixed in. And the base running and hitting weren’t bad. Pitching wasn’t godawful either. It’s a step forward from the last two Aprils, that’s for sure.

The things I noticed about this game
After Andrus made that high throw to Davis but then closed out the inning with a more difficult play, both MY and Eddie were patting him on the head. Just seems like some chemistry (whatever that truly is). Also, after Nellie’s huge shot, Elvis was the first person at the steps of the dugout to congratulate him. It seems like the guys are getting along, even the young and new guys. Just something I noticed.
I don’t care. If the bullpen is going to crap the bed, might as well do it with a good lead.
Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.
yeah I liked seeing the Elvis head pat

I'll admit
I was VERY skeptical that we wouldn’t be able to replace Bradley’s production or protection of Hamilton. And while he hasn’t killed at the plate in these 2 games, I think the bottom of this lineup – Salty/Teagarden and Andrus – plus Cruz for the full year and healthy Hank focused only on hitting – will more than mitigate the loss.
I was wrong.

I wonder what his ceiling is for this year
I mean, he’s got to hit a slump, right? but what if he doesn’t slow down, and plays just like he did for the full year last year…can he hit 35 HR, steal 20 bases, hit for high average and blow the OPS out of the water?

I gagree on the bullpen
I would have liked to see, mad dog get in one of these games along with feldman to get used to coming out of the bullpen again, I liked seeing JJ get some time tonight,
I would rather
him suck with a six run lead, than a 2 run lead or deficit
by blueballlefty on Apr 8, 2009 10:41 PM CDT up reply actions
Indeed
CJ and Fx2 got work the first game, so that’s not an issue. We had enough of a lead to have it not be a save situation. If you put in Mad Dog tonight, he gets a chance to get going, or has a cushion in case he does suck. Then, if it’s a one-run lead late tomorrow, CJ and Fx2, who are supposed to be our two best guys, are fresh and ready to go instead of working their third game in a row. As it is now, if we have a one-run lead late in the game tomorrow, guess who we’ll probably have to turn to: Mad Dog.
You are an idiot.

True
I think guys like Hank, who are drafted out of high school, don’t get all of the “real world” perspective that most adults have. For a guy who has probably been told how great he is his whole life, being told you’re moving to 1st, DH, or moving down in the batting order must seem like a huge deal. Then again, most of our lives aren’t replayed on sports center.

I like neither team has looked good and we've looked awesome.
Shut up, I’ll buy in to a sample size of three days if I want to.
Am I correct in assuming that I really shouldn't care who wins this game?
This is like when I watched the Cubs-Astros last night. It’s a weird feeling, being interested and yet indifferent.

I really have no dislike of the A's.
My hate of their arrogant GM is negated by my love of his reasoning and sensible management. And they don’t have any annoying fans assaulting me from all walks of the internet.
So while I want them to lose to help the Rangers, I will always want them to beat the Angels.
Root for the A's
You want the Angels to lose as much as possible before their rotation stabilizes.
Watching Angels fans turn on their own player in the span of 30 seconds is also pretty hilarious.
you should care
let the A’s try to match us for the first month or two…they’ll fall off faster than the Angels would. we want the Angels to dig a hole early that they have to climb out of if we want any chance

That's the best one of the bunch.
But the Jonas Brothers episode? The Terrance and Phillip, uh, bodily function episode? Thumbs down.
Admittedly, I thought The Coon was kind of clever.
Seeking a new signature...
Oh yeah
I guess that was two weeks ago.
I actually liked the queefing episode.
Coon, Jonas Brothers, and this joke one are pretty bad.
I know they’re making Comedy Central a lot of money and it wouldn’t happen, but they should really consider shortening the seasons by a bit so they can improve the quality and longevity.
by brettgardner on Apr 9, 2009 12:32 AM CDT up reply actions
It's really funny you mention that.
My favorite show is Rescue Me, which just premiered Tuesday for the first time since before the writer’s strike.
Their big thing is that they’re going to do 22 new episodes, on consecutive weeks. Problem is, the four previous seasons were only 13 episodes long. Nine extra episodes.
And yeah, I love the show, but I’m really concerned that it’s going to go stale in the span of a year. Give me 13 awesome episodes with a few really deep storylines rather than 22 passable episodes with too much filler.
Seeking a new signature...
Yeah
The problem is that for about 8 seasons, they could carry a huge episode load with consistently amazing results.
It’s just gotten a little soft around the edges now.

Yeah, did you see the Sportscenter piece on Andrus? Finally the Rangers might actually get some decent press since now there’s a catch-phrase the anchors can use. And maybe if we keep winning, they won’t ignore that we exist. Andrus looks legit.

There's a point at which

I liked it.

Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.
I liked it
I actually liked it better than the straight red look. The blue offsets the red nicely and it keeps us from looking like the Angels while giving us a bit (but thankfully not too much) of an old-school feel.
Now, I’m not so sure it would look as sharp if they attempted the same thing with the road greys (I’d have to see that to really judge it though) but with the home whites I think it works well.

I gotta switch from DISH to get MLB network
They roll through the web gems on the late baseball tonight and get to the #2 play which was the #1 on the early show. Naturally, I assume it was displaced by Nellie. Nope…Fred Lewis making a nice diving catch, but no different than the hundreds made every year.
I think they just look at the Rangers box score, find a homer from whoever one, show it, then make a mention about how there are always home runs in Rangers game, show the box score…and move on to the East Coast.
Don't you ever damn call here again
But man
they sure did save time for Steve Phillips to tell us that Nick Adenhart (7 H, 3BB in 6 IP) is the next big thing!
