The Rangers have placed All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton on the disabled list because of a strained muscle in his rib cage. The move is retroactive to April 27. Hamilton injured himself crashing into the wall in Toronto on April 21. He last appeared in a game Sunday as a pinch hitter. The Rangers have called up catcher Max Ramirez from Oklahoma to take Hamilton's roster spot. Taylor Teagarden will start at catcher tonight.
"I would have tried to rush back and probably ended up hurting myself," said Hamilton, who is eligible to come off the DL May 12. "I haven't been in teh right frame of mind mentally because of trying to push through the pain. The main thing I realize is that it's early."
This is Hamilton's first trip to the disabled list since he was traded to the Rangers. He had three stints on the DL in 2007 with Cincinnati. Hamilton is hitting .242 this season with two homers and 10 RBI.
