SI.com says so.

What I don't understand
is why they cite issues from 2000-2002 when criticizing Hicks, when what he did from 2003-2007 (dumping ARod, moving the team from the top third to consistently in the bottom fourth of payrolls, mismanaging his leadership team, failing to stick with a direction) was much, much more harmful.
This list is retarded.
Jeffrey Loria is #3 because he sold off good players after the World Series title? The franchise has more than TRIPLED in value since he purchased the team just 7 years ago. He’s obviously doing something right.
In the same period of time...
The Boston Red Sox – who have the #1 owner group in baseball – have seen their franchise value increase only 33%. That’s like 5% per season, barely more than inflation.

*CORRECTION...
The franchise that tripled in value was the Royals. David Glass is doing something right.
Loria has only seen the Marlins’ value increase by about 80%.

The Royals tripled in value over a 16-year period… I wish I could delete my comments… looking into that now…

I've relegated SI
To the “wah wah” school of journalism. By the time they ask random people what bothers them about (name the sport), then cipher their cryptics into clay tablets using discarded Coke bottles, what they have to say is seldom timely and not often relevant.

I agree With you Ed...
It certainly is strange… SI and ESPN have gone from being the undisputed kings of sports (at least in my mind as a kiddo) to being a joke.
If you were to make a line graph depicting suckiness, I would imagine that the slope of the said line would follow that of Ryan Drese’s or Rick Helling’s… or Mile’s… Wait, he always sucked…

can't argue about hicks...
but i’m surprised they harped on rusty in the explanation. we’ve spent more money on far worse players.
it’s been hard to keep up with the team in terms of prospects since i’m in CA, but it seems as though we’ve built a decent pitching staff without signing a big name. how do the pitching prospects look in the farm system? and are we aimed to pick up someone during the season?
i wont hold my breathe for a positive answer to my questions, knowing our history with pitchers under hicks. please buy some pitching hicks. please.

Drayton McLane
I hear McLane consistantly mentioned as one of the most meddlsome owners in sports.
