So. . .

We need to win two to stay in first.

Stressful feeling.

by philkid3 on May 14, 2009 7:18 PM CDT reply actions

no we don't

lose 2 of 3 and you are still half a game in first.

we need to win two for other obvious reasons though.

the preceding post was a great success.

You're right.

I did that math several times in my head and still came to the wrong conclusion. :(

Someone at Baseball Fever this off-season. . .

. . . said that all the projection systems were being ridiculous because they didn’t understand how much the Angels historically beat up on the teams in their division, and that it’s their manifest destiny or something to dominate the A’s, Rangers and Mariners.

I disproved his “theory” with historical stats, and he just ignored me. But I still really want to beat the Angels plenty this year in no small part than just to be able to go back and laugh at that post.

I like our chances

against a depleted bullpen. 7 innings today against Boston, get to that bullpen ASAP.

By the way, is that game nationally televised?

must. win. series.

I’m not so crazy as to suggest a sweep, but if the rangers want the area to believe in them they have to win this series, or at the very least be competitive throughout.

In any scenario I can come up with that ends with the playoffs, its only by a game or two. Critical.

I want to believe ><

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on May 14, 2009 7:27 PM CDT reply actions

Not really "must win series"

But sure would go a long way toward a demonstration of “proof of concept”. The concept being that any defending champ still has to play the games and beat their opponents on the field, and that recent history doesn’t control matchups or outcomes.

by boomer1 on May 14, 2009 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions

we are the rangers

if we were boston vs toronoto right now, I wouldn’t say its a must win series at all. the rangers have a slim chance at the playoffs, and I cant see it happening without a far above average record vs the angels. everything has to go right…

maybe you have a higher opinion of the rangers and lower opinion of the angels. i think the angels are quite a bit better than us. i think they will have a better record than us against other opponents from here on out.

basically, im hoping for a miracle this year and it doesn’t have room for many setbacks.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on May 14, 2009 7:48 PM CDT up reply actions

That was just a question

A sweep would be huge, but I couldn’t remember how many games we played against them. If we can go 3-0 (I know its unlikely) to start the season series, I like our chances of going at least 8-8 against them in the remaining 16 games. With the way the division is working out, it looks like the Angels will probably finish somewhere around .500 or a bit better so every game against them counts.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

lets see

Saunders struggles in Arlington. Lackey’s first start of 2009. Blalock owns Weaver. We will win 2 of 3.

This will be our proving series

However, the Angels bullpen is tired, coming off that 12 inning win today. With Lackey making his start, and whatnot, we may be able to get 2 of 3 from them.

WHEN that happens, look out MLB. The red-hot Rangers in Red are going to come after you and beat the shit out of every other team. Pummel them with pillowcases full of little bars of soap!

Since Boston and TB lost today

the three of us have 14 losses, best in the AL. Only the Angels have 15.

this morning I think TX was 2nd in the AL, tied with Boston behind Toronto. Today’s games don’t seem to change that far as I can tell.

LAA is starting to get healthy

and we’re facing two of their toughest pitchers this weekend. I think this is a huge series. I know it’s early, but I’m scared. Hold me, LSB.

Scared or not, these games are what we need...

regardless of W’s and L’s, our guys are becoming a team. Unlike the beginning of the season, we’re starting to see them play pro baseball. I’ll be a happy fan regardless what happens this weekend.

Me, too

I’m happy that these games are indeed that meaningful at this point. Seems like the last two years at this point we were hoping they’d crawl back into contention.

the angels

swept KC who had just won 6 in a row, beating Greinke in the process, then took 2 of 3 from Boston, albeit Boston’s offense has some injuries and a stone cold Ortiz. This should be a good test for our guys.

by walrus52 on May 14, 2009 10:22 PM CDT reply actions

I'll second that. We have so many guys that can pull the plug.
