This Day in LSB History
Two years ago today, we were depressed.
Matt Kata, incidentally, was playing left field at the end of that game.
Left field.

HAH!
Big Tex was 0 for the day. Even Whiffy got a hit
who among us
doesn’t miss the days of Victor Diaz batting cleanup? Still, I’ll never forget the game I went to at Minute Maid where our offense went buckwild on the Astros pitching staff and Diaz hit two homeruns.

love it
“blow this thing up…give Washington a clean slate.
then start Arias, Teagarden, Gold, Botts, Mayberry, Mahar in the field, start Hurley in the rotation and keep Murray in the pen and bring Rupe into the pen. Make CJ Wilson the closer. GET THIS YOUTH PROJECT STARTED.”

i also love
the thread that insists Atlanta would love to trade for Tex but didn’t have the trade pieces to pull it off. Also love the thought that “there’s no way they would trade Francouer for Tex.”

HEH I like longhorns comment about
Atlanta not having the players to get the Tex deal done. Obviously in hindsight, that made me laugh a little bit.

Longhorns had a lot of those comments
that seem real funny 2 year later in these threads.
I think he also had one about how we would miss Bruce Chen or something.

i definitely had high hopes
for Bruce Chen. didn’t he have a strong ST or something?

Channeling Josey…

In his defense, none of us (who were familiar enough with the players to understand how much they wound up getting) knew that they were going to get the kind of package that they did. If you’ll notice, he was open to the one that I mentioned from the Yankees with three A-ball players (and Joba was pre-breakout at that point).

Yeah
I’m just kidding around. Before the trade went down I had pretty much the same attitude myself – I didn’t think trading him for anything less than a starter who could help us right then was really worth it, but that was before I learned most of what I have about baseball.

Disney's Wide World of Sports
brings back terrible memories for me. I think more then one Ranger player got injured there.

You could replenish a farm system really fast by trading Tex.

Not sure about that...
Atlanta was in over their heads on that and the Yanks made him filthy rich…but he definitely wasn’t popular enough around the league to be overrated then.

I HATED watching them play in that stadium
Terrible view from the outfield. Sooo annoying.

Stark Chart
Rangers stuff…
Clay(Garland,TX): With Derek Holland pitching well in the bullpen so far, how much longer til the rangers give him and Neftali Feliz a shot in the rotation?
SportsNation Jayson Stark: (1:35 PM ET ) I brought this up in Rumblings yesterday. But one hang-up is that Feliz is down right now with a sore shoulder. At some point, though, if he gets healthy and Holland gets his feet on the ground, it’s something for the Rangers to consider. Their lineup is so good, they’ve got a shot in that division.
Greg (Dallas, TX): Feliz pitched for OKC last night and had a line of 1H, 1R, 1BB, 7K in 5IP.
SportsNation Jayson Stark: (1:53 PM ET ) Thanks. I stand corrected. I know he missed a start before that. One hit, seven whiffs, huh? An incredible talent.

0 Rangers with a batting average above .300
Things have changed for the better.
Saw that
Note Kinsler and Young down in the low .200’s at that point. Wow …………

2006
he was 7-7 with an ERA+ of 81. Not bad for a 5th starter. Not his fault he was pressed into the 3rd and 4th spot. 2007 he was bad.
2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
eh?
ERA+ of 81 isn’t very good at all. I don’t care if he was a 5th starter or not. He sucked.
10.4 H/9
3.4 BB/9
4.4 K/9
1.54 WHIP
Suck.

Wow.
Those K/9 and BB/9 numbers are scary stuff…
Hell, the K/9 alone would be enough to scare me off a pitcher who had significantly lower hit and walk numbers. Thank god we’re past the point of considering someone like Koronka (or John Rheinecker, for that matter of fact) a decent pitcher.
That was my point
He wasn’t bad for that team. He would be god awful on this staff.

not any more...traded cable for a gym membership
BUT, now that I think of it, the Rangers game won’t start til 8 eastern time, and A ball games move along pretty quickly. I should still be able to catch the second half of the game when I get home.
oh sweet
I just saw that everyone at the game gets a free team set of baseball cards. Question answered.

I can't imagine the weird looks I would have given someone if they told me back then
that in 2009 Feldman would be a decently successful starter for us, Andruw Jones was on our bench and we would have a 20 year old kid setting up a circus tent in between 3B and 2B
i like that, setting up a circus tent between 3rd and 2nd

Good one
But that’s waterboy talk. Back before “the days”, each team had a waterboy whose job it was to keep a bucket of water at least half full, with a ladle for a cup, alonside each team’s bench. That appears to be one of the qualifications for being on the air about baseball nowatimes.

I love this - it's in the last post on that link of that game in 2007

hah...
in reviewing that postgame thread, it appears I was at that game…. one of the many losses I’m responsible for by going to see the rangers play the rays.
By the way, I’m going to the August series when the Rangers are in St. Pete. I’ve got some kick ass seats on the saturday game… 3 rows from the field on the 3rd base line, should be pretty close to the bullpen.
