A.L. West Standings
Let's continue to enjoy this while we can.
One of the things that is interesting about this is that we discussed the opportunity, given the early schedule, to start off strong, and the possibility of making some noise early with the Angels having 3 of their 5 rotation members starting the season on the d.l. After losing 7 of 8 to drop to 4-7 on the season, it looked like that was out the window.
But the Rangers now have the third-best record in baseball -- only the Dodgers and Blue Jays have a better winning percentage right now.
The Rangers are 8 games above .500 for the first time since this win on June 18, 2005, against the Nationals got Texas to 37-29. They promptly lost 8 of 9 and 20 of 31 to drop out of the race and below .500. Then in August they went on a 13 game road trip and went 1-12. I had blocked that out of my mind, I think.
Anyway...the team is playing well. It may last. It may not. But as long as it does last, I'm going to enjoy looking at the standings and seeing the Rangers in first place.

KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Damn...
June 18, 2005. Hank had 3 walks that day.
I also remember thinking that Ricardo Rodriguez could be a pretty good starter for the Rangers back then. Yeah, not so much.

We seem to have that every season
always have that “bright spot” that we can build on in the rotation, that melts down the following year. Drese, RicRod, Loe, Tejeda, Feldman. Oops, scratch that last one.
Man, I love winning! You know? It's like better than losing!
He's doing alright as a reliever for the Royals.

ESPN BBTN
About to do a feature on the Rangers. Let’s see if they know what they are talking about. Probably not. Why am I even watching?

When do you think they'll start using bloggers
like you instead of poor “beat” writers like Jeff Wilson? I predict that it will happen in the next few years.
It's already started
Brett Perryman has been doing stuff for them for several weeks.

Well I was speaking specifically towards ESPN
But yes, DMN grabbing Z is definitely a good indicator of things to come, I think. Unless you are referring to Z doing things for ESPN that I wasn’t aware of. If that is the case, then I apologize for my ignorance.
Quite a few bloggers are getting attention
Dave Cameron writes for the WSJ, Aaron Gleeman is all over the place, Nate Silver’s political blogging helps bring attention to his roots. I think you’ll see more of that, but it takes a while for the cream to rise to the top and get noticed to the point that ESPN or a network would talk to them instead of talking to a reporter they already have an established relationship with.

Grant article
Rather than anything really vocal, Kinsler’s response was to steal second, move to third on Michael Young’s ground out and score on a sacrifice fly by Josh Hamilton to tie the game. They did not trail again and have not trailed at the end of any inning during the series.
I love everything about that paragraph. Winning is retaliation.
