any day Springston pitches
i withhold it. That is how unsexy Springston is. The same could be said for Lizard, but Wieland trumps him.

The Frisco website shows Ballard starting tonight
but MiLB.com shows Moscoso starting. Usually Scooter is wrong in these situations, but we’ll see.
Sigh ... we are sooo gonna suck again next season.

Tacoma
has a pretty decent lineup. I am starting to wonder why the Mets never believed in Mike Carp. He is pretty young for the league and is holding his own. Owens, Redman, Clement and Morse are all nice depth guys as well.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
no
but he’s getting close. he is definitely in a tier above those other guys, though.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Except
he doesn’t have the glove that wood has, is older than wood, and is less likely to have a solid ML career.
I love Brandon Wood and fervently pray that someone takes him away from the Angels.
"Hustle doesn't cost a dime and it looks good." - Pete Rose as Channeled by Marcus Lemon
exactly
Brandon Wood just doesn’t fit the Angels’ slap and spray style of play, and they’ve never really given him a fair chance. Eventually some team will pry him away (how did the Braves fail to do that last year?!?!) and will reap the rewards.
Jeff Clement may still be a solid big leaguer, but his days as a top prospect are over.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Clement's ceiling
is probably the greater half of a DH platoon right now.

by all measurements, he’d be an excellent 3B and a league average SS defensively.
He’d probably be better offensively.

"Hustle doesn't cost a dime and it looks good." - Pete Rose as Channeled by Marcus Lemon
I'm not sure how great of a thing
Borbon hitting fly balls is. I mean the more power he develops, the better, but there is a point (of speed versus power) at which little flares and medium-deep fly balls, at the expense of ground balls, isn’t such a great thing. Hopefully he’ll get strong enough where it is.

The happy medium

Well he apparenlty runs like 3.56 40 or something. So anything that lands in the gap is pretty much an auto inside the parker.

A couple of other things about his walks
It’s early and all, but he has 11 walks and 12 strikeouts in 167 PAs. Last year, 30/62 and 597.
2008: 5.0% / 10.4%
2009: 6.6% / 7.2%
It’s relatively subtle, but to increase his walks by a modest amount, but still cut his strikeouts by almost a third, at a new level one step from the majors, seems like a positive indicator that it’s a meaningful, more sustainable positive change. He’s presumably having better at bats on the whole, not just longer ones.

are facing a pretty good pitcher in Trevor Harden.

I think it is one of
those games where he is pitching better than his box score indicates. A lot of GB singles and no XBH for Visalia. He does have a good GB/FB ratio for this game.

Vaughan throws sidearm, and herky jerky
same slot as DOD, but distinctly different manner of getting his arm to that slot. Kinslerhomer posted some video a while back.

A lot of

This is a pretty patient Visalia lineup, I wonder if it’s just everyone’s strategy vs. Beavan now to try to get to him quickly.

No command whatsoever
that Rich Harden deal looks awful…if you’re the type that evaluates by results, that is.
"Hustle doesn't cost a dime and it looks good." - Pete Rose as Channeled by Marcus Lemon
Yeah
Even at the time, the only guy who looked promising was Donaldson, and he was really more of a blank slate than anything. He’s been much better since the deal than he was early in 2008. It’s hard for me to understand how you could get so little for Harden, injury-prone or not. He stands a decent chance (and seemed to at the time of the deals, too) of getting more for Blanton than Harden.

Beane was afraid Harden would go down again and he’d get absolutely nothing for him. I’m sure teams were telling him Harden was too risky to give up much for.
