Here I come...
So I'm officially making my first trip to Arlington here in June. I will be going to the June 9th and 10th games against the Blue Jays and the June 12th and 13th games against the Dodgers. I'm pretty damn pumped up. I've been a Rangers fan for over 15 years now and have always had to watch them on TV or as a visiting fan in the Colisseum before.
Here are my questions for you locals. I'm planning on going to Six Flags on the 11th and to the Hurricane Harbor during the day before one of the games. I've noticed they sell tickets for the kids price if you buy them on line at their site. I think around $30 for Six Flags and $20 for the water park. My question is are these two places worth checking out? Anyone know of any other deals (i.e. I can get cheap tickets for a park here in Utah at Costco) for those parks or any other places to visit? What other sites should I check out while I'm in town? Museums (I'm a history buff), hot spots, et al. I'm definitely going to be renting a car so I figure anything within an hour or so of Arlington is fair game.
I have an ex-coworker that should be hooking me up with tickets, but hasn't come through yet. I'm pretty sure she will, but just in case she doesn't, what is the best way to buy tickets there? Just at the gates before the games? My only fear is that if the Rangers keep playing as well as they have been that there will be fewer seats available. I don't expect those games to sell out, but I certainly don't want to be stuck in the nose bleed sections either. I know there have been a couple fan posts in the past that people suggest sections 230-236 (?) as good seats. Any other seating suggestions? Also, where is the best place to buy Rangers memorabilia? I think I'll need to stock up while I'm there.
So if any of you LSBers are going to be at those games and you see some 30 year old guy walking around with his U of U gear on next to a guy wearing a SF Giants hat, that would be me and my father. Damn I'm excited. Finally a trip to RBiA.

Since you are a history buff
You may want to check out the King Tut exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. If you are interested in that type thing, this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Is there more than one Zoo...
in the area? If so which one is the nicest.
Kinkades? Is this a restaurant?

Fort Worth Zoo is eleventy billion times better than the Dallas Zoo
and Kincaid’s is a world-famous burger joint. Nothing fancy, just great food.

Six Flags deal
The Rangers have a deal with Six Flags.
Six Flags Double Play
Each Double Play combo includes one Lower Box ticket to a Texas Rangers game and one adult admission to Six Flags Over Texas for only $50.

Six Flags is worth it
just eat before you go so you don’t pay $13 for a smallish-hamburger and a drink
Like KoK said above, the Zoo in Ft. Worth is outstanding. The Kimbell and the Amon Carter museum are nice places to spend a quiet day.
Too bad the Cats have an off day on the 11th, or I would suggest catching a game at LaGrave Field that nite.
I avoid Dallas as much as possible, so I don’t have a lot of info on things over there… :)

History
About the only thing history related off the top of my head in dallas is the 6th floor museum.
It’s a little morbid to have a museum dedicated to the assassination of a president, but there is some good stuff there about kennedy and oswald

I agree that it's a little morbid...
…but this is a must see for a history buff. Very spooky and creepy in it’s own right, but the historical impact of that site is off the charts.

Is it just you and your dad or are there kids in tow?

Just me and my dad...
Not sure where we’re staying yet. I’m thinking about just going to Hotwire and getting a cheap 3 or 4 star hotel in the Arlington/Grand Prairie area. They let you pick the area you are staying in, but you don’t find out the hotel ’til after you buy.
I’m open to suggestions though.

There are numerous hotels near the Ballpark
With the new Cowboys Stadium built nearby alot of hotels have sprung up. Holiday Inn on the north side of I-30 and a Hilton on Lamar thats brand new. You shouldn’t have a problem with hotels.
I was curious because your planned trips to Six Flags and especially Hurricane Harbor. Those kinda seemed like things you’d do with kiddos. Six Flags I can see you and your dad enjoying but unless you’ve just never seen water Hurricane Harbor probably isn’t really in your wheelhouse. If your hotel has a pool it would probably be as good a time.

theme park/roller coaster guy. I looked on the HH site and it said it had 8 or 9 pretty good size water slides. Is that not correct?
Any other suggestions on things to do during the day before the night games Large Steve?

Horse racing during the day on the weekend is nice
Don’t know much about Dallas but stockyards in Ft Worth is pretty cool touristy type place.
As for HH there are some nice slides. I haven’t been in so long I don’t know what its like these days. I imagine the best days to go there would be on a weekday during the daytime, weekends are probably crazy busy.
Also you may want to check out if the new Cowboys Stadium offers any kind of tours or anything. It will open on the 6th for a concert but I don’t know if it will be fully functional for tours and such.

highlights
Angelo’s in FW world famous texas bbq, get the brisket or ribs. giant schooners of beer.
check and see if 6 flags and the water park have a combo ticket, they are both owned by 6 flags i think.
tickets: for the dodgers series, you gonna wanna buy tickets, i bet that bitch is packed. TO series i bet you can do the “get in where u fit in” approach which is buy cheapest seat you can and sit wherever. if we are doing good and you have a family thats gonna be goin, just buy them where you wanna sit, kinda pain in the butt, but kids and all.
dont pay 12 bucks to park, youll find cheaper
if you in dallas the dallas world aquarium is pretty cool and close to the west end where there is decent food.
hit up a mexican joint. the sketchier it is, the cheaper and more authentic it will be
expect to drive everywhere
downtown FW is pretty cool, especially if you got a lady friend
mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.

Parking
Park at Sherlock’s. It’s in between Center St. and Collins, and it’s just south of I-30.
Go inside the bar, get a shuttle ticket (no cost), and take the shuttle to the Ballpark for free.
All the lots close to the Ballpark will run you about $12. There’s a few lots that do $6 parking, but they’re kind of in an industrial/commercial area southeast of the stadium, where I have seen my fair share of towing and break-ins.

Get there early, as your arrival at the Ballpark is predicated on waiting for the bus to fill with other smart people. And that can sometimes take anywhere from 10-15 minutes. Takes another 5-10 to get to the Ballpark. Buses are just retarded like that
