Am I alone

in feeling that I won’t really believe the Rangers can win the west until they have like a 20 game lead? My fear and Rangers experience keeps waiting for some incredibly stranger and/or horrible thing to happen. Realistically, though, I don’t see any reason for the gloves to regress a great deal, even if the pitching does come back to the pack after a torrid May.

I don’t think the Rangers will trade for a starter, preferring to stay in-house for solutions there. A bullpen addition seems likely.

I’m not sure I feel comfortable with a HUGE lead, either… I just have nightmares of them almost giving up the season to the Mariners in ’96

Right

but I think it’s comforting that we haven’t exactly had a league-leading staff and here we are playing good defense behind them. That leads me to believe that current performance is sustainable if not improved upon the inclusion of Holland in the rotation.

is going to take more than Holland to plug the dikes, so to speak

if this staff starts tailing off in the heat. I always said it would take a perfect storm of Millwood, Padilla and one other starter performing as well as they can all year long for us to contend. If 3 of the starting 5 as currently constructed do that, we’ll be fine. Right now, 4 of 5 are. But I could easily see 2 tailing off, and maybe even 3, which means Holland AND another starter would have to step up to the plate and perform.

If Feldman and B-MAC

become your back-end starters, I think the rotation is okay.

Last year, for instance, Feldman was our ace. Millwood, Harrison, and Holland at the top should be fairly formidable, imo.

current performance is sustainable?

You expect the rotation to be the best in the AL from here on out? The rotation has a 3.80 ERA since April 18, and I don’t expect that to continue, defensive progress or not.

If not improved with Holland in the rotation? I think he’s awesomer than sliced bread, but he’s going to have his ups and downs.

Well yeah

complete game SO’s aren’t sustainable, but why can’t they continue to have Game Scores of 50 and give the team a chance to win? That’s really asking for too much?

On Dutch, I think if he’s eased into the rotation in July after focusing on mixing in his other pitches, he’ll be able to get hitters out. I don’t think they would ask him to lead the staff yet, or anything.

Ok, but that to me isn't sustaining what they've been doing

it’s being acceptably good, or avoiding crashing to earth, and probably good enough to be in contention in September. I’ll take a 4.50 ERA from the rotation.

I guess I'm arguing that I think the defense will continue to perform at this rate ..

that can be argued in your favor.

I agree with that

out of pitching, hitting, and defense, that seems the least likely thing to slump or regress much.

I don't think you're alone

the “feel good” feeling hasn’t completely left me yet, but with the way this offense is suffering, and the fact that our starting pitching could tank at any point, I’m pretty concerned. Yet optimistic.

I wont trust it

until they have a 6 game lead in September… Then, they will have a chance.. I think the Angels will regain the lead by a game or two and itl be that way the rest of the way.

This is our year.

That 4 games series

at Anahiem in the last week of Sept could be fun.

It's almost summertime and we are playing meaningful games

That in itself is refreshing.

I just now realized that I passed out in about the 5th / 6th inning

of my recorded copy of last night’s game. I haven’t seen a score yet (down 1-0 or 2-0 i forgot), but it sounds like Matty didn’t finish out too well.

Should I just erase that and start anew with today’s game or is there anything worth seeing?

Yes, it was badass.

It seemed like Elvis was confused what he had just done.

In a way, that could be a good thing

Instincts take over, see runner, tag runner… then after it’s all over, that’s when he realizes he’s making baseball history.

Instincts are a good thing.

Those were two painful games to watch for me...

The triple play was a nice highlight, but I’d sacrifice that for a win. At least today is our last game and we can get the hell out of Detroit. I thought things would be different this time. Who knew, Dontrelle would come out and pitch great. Verlander I knew, but the D. Willis game really surprised me. Hopefully we can take today’s game and stop the streak first. I hate Comerica Park.

Watching BMac causes physical pain for me...He seems to be the only weak link

All the other starter have been pretty consistent. What is the staff ERA again? Because of the potency of the offense, if the pitching can just stay better than the league average, thats good enough to stay competitive. We really can’t complain, I think we have a team ERA of around 4 and a half. I think I it can hover around there or a little less, we’ll be good. If it creeps toward 5 like it has the last few years, then I’m going to worry again.
